  1. That does look like a good used option. I am not a huge audiophile, but I know I can make these speakers rock more, because with my current Yamaha receiver that is probably more than 6-7 years old, TV just sounds blah! I can get the TX-NR609 on Craigslist for $325. The problem I have is that I have this hooked up to a big open basement area, so the room is not enclosed. I seem to be leaning toward an Onkyo based on what you guys recommended, but am open to any other ideas/suggestions. I do like the one mentioned above though as well.
  2. Hey all, Coming back to you in response to this system I bought back around a year ago. I have the entire setup still that I originally bought except for the original RS-3 II surrounds which I had to replace with a smaller Klipsch bookshelf set to please the wife for aesthetics. Anyway, I still have the original old Yamaha receive that the seller threw in with these speakers. Needless to say, I am now ready for a new receiver, and wanted to get your guys thoughts on the best to power this system. I don't want to spend any more than $500 on it right now, but I think the newer receivers will make this system rock even more. I have been looking at the RX-V867 or the newer RX-V671. Both can be had for around the same price now. I was leaning toward the 671, but am open to any other ideas on any other receivers that you feel would be an even better bang for my buck. Thanks in advance.
  3. Yeah it is a good deal. I decided to bite the bullet, and bought the Harmony One. However, Amazon has it for $168 plus a $20 mail-in rebate, and I get free 2 day shipping, so I got it from there. I had to compromise and take back my Amazon Kindle I just bought a few weeks ago so the wife wouldn't complaint, but I'd rather have this tech toy than the Kindle right now. All about sacrifices Thanks everyone!
  4. I already downloaded the manual, and there is no way to control those settings from the unit itself, the manual even specifically states that the only buttons to access this feature are on the remote. Not going to pay a lot of $$$ to find this remote when I'll just be upgrading the receiver in the future anyway. I just wish I could adjust the speaker settings to my liking, rather than whatever the last guy had it at. Guess I'll just have to go for Logitech. I want the Harmony One, but not sure I can justify the purchase right now money-wise.
  5. Is there any way to adjust the speaker setttings on this old Yamaha RX-V2200 without the remote control? I did not get the remote with this system, and have yet to upgrade receivers because of a lack of funds. I know my speakers are off, and would love to adjust them, but can't do so because I don't have a remote. I can't find a replacement online except for one that is $67, which is way too much to pay for an 8 year old receiver remote. Will getting a universal remote help? Will I have to call Yamaha to see about a replacement remote to see if it's cheaper?
  6. Hey all, I posted a while back about a full Klipsch Reference series that I purchased. It was the RC-3 II Center Channel, RF-3 II Floor Speakers, and the RS-3 II Surrounds to go with a KSW-12 Subwoofer. I also got an old Yamaha receiver thrown in with it, the RX-V2200. Anyway, I have to sell the RS-3 II Surrounds because they are too big to please my wife in our basement. I replaced them per your recommendation with the RSX-5. Not near like the RS-3 II, but it is what it is. Anyway, I can get the Yamaha RX-V567 for $125 if I give someone the RS-3 II Surrounds. Should I put more money towards a more powerful receiver, or will this receiver be a really good to power this setup and a good enough upgrade over the old RX-V2200 I have now?
  7. No, this was a setup for a 6.1, not a 7.1. Didn't really have the area in my open floor plan for a back center channel speaker. As for the position of the back surrounds, I know they are supposed to be around ear level and slightly behind. However, the speaker wire was already ran through the side walls before the basement was finished and the drywall was put in. Therefore, the wires just out slightly behind where the couch will be, but unfortunately, with the setup of the room, has to be up by the ceiling at the top of the wall. This is all that could be done. So I guess I have to just make the most of it and go with the RSX-4 or RSX-5
  8. You are correct. I have a big open floor plan where the bar area and the living area all flow into one big room. So yes, I do not have any rear walls. I only have a side wall that will be back behind the couch on one side, and I have the speaker wire through drywall on the other side coming out of the soffet. So only 2 side walls. I never knew Klipsch made speakers the size of the RSX-4. These seem like a great alternative, even though not near as good as what I currently have. But it looks like this would be a good compromise
  9. No offense taken. I am passionate about sound, which is the reason I bought a whole set of Klipsch speakers anyway. I don't want to just throw anything down there that is going to sound terrible, and ruin the rest of the great speakers I have in the front. I guess I need the best of both worlds. I need to get a smaller set of surround speakers that is going to please the wife so a big 12 lb speaker isn't hanging from the ceiling right in the middle of the basement in front of the big bar we had built. However, I also need it to actually sound good. If I want total crap, I'd just buy any surround like from Samsung that is small just to please the wife. However, I won't do that, and want something that is going to sound good. Hard to do when I won't be able to have the RS-3 II speakers back there. It needs to look classy. I think I compromised and should be able to keep the center and the RF-3 II's for the front. I just need to find something that sounds really good and is small for the rears. The Quintets aren't in the same ballpark whatsoever, and I know that I'm now going to have to sacrifice some sound to please the wife (can't get good sound out of tiny speakers), but I really have no choice. Would the Quintets at least work? Any other recommendations at all. I realize sound quality is going to be jeopardized.
  10. Yeah I looked at the Quintets, but it's going to suck to give up so much sound. I don't like Bose at all, but would buying a couple of the Acoustimass Bose Double Cubes at least suffice? It pains me guys, but I have to ask.
  11. I agree that I can't match the sound with small back speakers. But this is going to be our entertaining area for her family, and I'm just not sure I can convince her to keep the surrounds for the back. I'd appreciate recommending anything that might come close to matching. I think I can convince her to potentially keep the front speakers. As for the comment about buying her one for the upstairs, well she just simply doesn't care. She doesn't even need surround sound. She's fine with the TV sound.
  12. It was a simple fix. But now there's another problem entirely. With the recent finish to our basement, it has come to my wife's attention that the back speakers will look too gawdy hanging from the wall, and the whole system might be too big for her liking. She wants a "Bose-size" home theater setup. If I end up having to sell this system, what is a comparable system I can look into that will satisfy my wife but give comparable sound? I may want to try to keep the 2 RF-3 II's and the center channel, and just place 2 small surround speakers in the back. If I do, what would you recommend so it sounds good with the rest? And if I have to get rid of the whole thing, what is a system I can find for around 1k or less that will do the job (perhaps I can keep just the center channel too) Any help would be appreciated.
  13. Thanks for all your help guys. This was indeed the issue. I did not have the gold jumpers, I just cut some speaker wire and ran it between the two and it now works beautifully. And to think, I was about to spend $150 to have them send me 2 woofers.
  14. Well the RF-3 II that doesn't work actually doesn't have the gold plated jumpers on them, must have been missing. However, I am getting sound from it from the tweeter, it's just the 2 woofers that don't move. Could this still be because the gold plated jumpers are missing? I will swap out the jumpers from the one that is working to the one that is not and see if this does the trick. If not, I assume the woofers are blown, and will get a replacement. You're right on the price. I called them today, and they are about $60 apiece minus shipping.
  15. Thanks guys, I too think I got a steal. However, I finally hooked it all up today, and realized that one of the RF-3 II's appears to have both woofers blown. How much do you think it would be to replace these through Klipsch? The guy is a very honest, family man type and not an audiophile, so probably had no idea they were blown, and I couldn't tell at the time either because he only had it hooked up to an FM station. Anyway, what would the cost of these woofers be to fix/replace or do I just have to contact Klipsch? Thanks
  16. I posted around a month ago concerning my interest in a new home theatre setup. I was convinced not to get the Klipsch HDT-1000 and Yamaha RX-V567 for my basement that I am finishing as I type. Glad I took your advice, as this would have been nowhere near enough room-filling sound for my entire basement. So I searched Craigslist and I bought this tonight: 2 RF-3 II Floorstanding Speakers RC-3 II Center Channel 2 RS-3 II Surrounds KSW-12 Subwoofer plus he threw in his old Yamaha receiver, RX-V2200. I got all this for $500. Did I get a good deal? All is in great condition, a couple chips in the subwoofer, and a couple broken pieces for where the grill attaches on a couple of them. I figured this would be one heck of a setup to start, especially since I didn't have the money to pay 2k plus for a good system right now. I didn't even want the receiver, but plan on upgrading it with the newer models that include HDMI inputs, Blu-Ray, 3D, etc.
  17. Guys, I would appreciate input. I am thinking of buying this set of speakers: http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/ele/1837941835.html They were purchased in 2003, and it looks to be a good deal. I would then pair this was the Yamaha receiver mentioned above. Is this a good deal? I am new to learning about all the different Klipsch brands, and I know that 7 years old is nothing for good Klipsch speakers, and this guy has taken care of them well. Please let me know your thoughts on these speakers as soon as possible. Thanks, Matt
  18. So I think you convinced me to wait on my speakers. However, I do think I am going to buy this NewEgg deal to get the RX-V567 receiver. That plus the HDT500 seems like a great deal. Then I am going to turn around and sell the speakers on EBAY or Craigslist. This receiver seems to be more than powerful enough to control higher level speakers from Klipschs (such as the R5, etc.)? If I buy this and wait on the speakers, I figured I can at least get the receiver for $200 after selling the HDT500
  19. Bill, Thank you so much for the response. And yes, my main objective is for movies/sports, so I assumed that this was too big of a room for this system. Do you think this is worth it to get the receiver though? I could then just turn around and sell the speakers and get this receiver now for probably only like $200 after I sell the speakers. Those speakers look very nice. I agree that piecing it together over time would probably be the best thing, but it's unreal that after spending $650, I still have to buy a center channel, rears, and a sub The wife may not want these floorstanding speakers, but I'm going to try to talk her into them over time. not, I guess I'll look at other bookshelf type speakers. Would I be able to get a good set of rear speakers that are small enough to be able to be used for a ceiling mount, or are most rear speakers ceiling mountable? I was wanting to get the mount set up with the speaker wire run through before the guy did the drywall on my ceiling. This looks like a good deal too, but again, I don't know what I'm looking for. I just assume that all Klipsch speakers look good http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/ele/1837941835.html
  20. Hey guys, I've been researching the past few weeks trying to find the best bang for my buck on a receiver/home theater speaker combo. I've figured out that I definitely want Klipsch speakers. We just moved into a new home, and am in the process of finishing our basement. Going to have a dedicated entertainment area. It's not going to be a closed off space for a dedicated home theater room. The area where the TV/surround sound is going to go is approximately 13x21, but it is an open floor plan with a bar behind it and a hallway that adds probably another 10x15' or so. 9 foot ceiling. Anyway, with all that done, I'm on a very limited budget for the time being, but am definitely wanting to upgrade my 8 year old Onkyo HTIB (HTS767C) My budget right now is probably onlyy $6-800. I know that is not a lot, and most audiophiles on here are used to listening to 2k plus systems. I intend to get there in time, but can't at the moment. So what's the best bang for my buck I was wanting to go with a deal at Newegg where you can get a Yamaha RX-V567 7.1 3D receiver and the Klipsch HDT500 for $599. This seems perfect for me right now. However, I also realize that this system might not be the best for a room this size, but also seems the best fit for my budget. Looked at the higher power HDT1000, but can't find a combo deal that is this good (I basically get the receiver for free) Is this the best bet for me right now, or do you have any other recommendations in a similar price range for Klipsch speakers? I've looked on Craigslist locally here in Cincinnati, and there really are no good options. I could always buy these, then later on, (or even now) upgrade the center channel and sub. Love reading these forums. Any insight would be appreciated.
