  1. Hi tromprof I am from Kiev, Ukraine. Right guess I hope? :-) I already gave up improving sound of my LaScalas. You all were quite persuasive. As for old LaScala...you won't find any pair here...that's why I had to focus on new LaScala II and I have no regrets now. thank you very much, guys, for being nice and kind advices
  2. Hi Coytee thank you for info. JubeScalas look brilliant! I will show this pic to my wife when right moment occures ))
  3. thank you, Islander It seems you are telling me right things to follow :-) I really like the sound reproduction of LaScala2 and was just curious to step onto experimental road. I do not want to replace capasitors in original AL-5 xover because: 1. there are too many capasitors to replace 2. I do not want to change the authenticity of the xover. I'd rather buy Crites xover with just couple of caps and it would be much easier to experiment. Though I can see now that it makes no sense. At least until some information about definite improvements of someones experiments would be spread.
  4. I do not have a problem with AL-5 :-) I love the sound of LaScala II this is why I am owner :-) Although I am not just blind fan of what Klipsch produces and after many experiments with capasitors in my vintage amps I've learned that cheap film capasitors rarely can give you immaculate result. The capasitors in AL-5 are casual and cheap film ones. In Crites xovers are sonicaps which are not expensive either but there are not many of them comparing to 15 or 20 capasitors in original AL-5. I've thought perhaps somebody here tried something different (Crites xovers or modded xovers with paper in oil caps for example). So the question now lies more in theretical area. If you think that I waste my time on thinking about this topic I would gladly go back to my lovely sound system :-))
  5. of course! I know that. The question is: Bob Crites highly regarded as crossover updater. I heard a lot about sound improvement with his crossovers placed to klipsch speakers. Now i have got new AL-5 crossover with multipul capasitors and I was just wondering maybe Al-3 made by Bob Crites would be better.
  6. Hi everybody! I have got LaScala2 Anniversary edition and wondering..whether it makes sense to replace original AL-5 crossover with Bob Crites famous AL-3? I looked inside my speakers and I can tell you that AL-5 has got many capasitors (maybe 15 or even 20) and from one hand it means that Klipsch tried to smooth horn's sound and to make tonal balance more accurate with deeper bass. But from another hand many capasitors often lead to lack of transparency. So I decided to ask here - did anyone experiment with crossovers in new LaScala2? thank you. Igor
  7. yes that's true about sensitivity I use transformers to decreese it which were supplied originally with my leaks
  8. I luv them! :-) kt66 is very special tube. last news...i changed my mind to try old CJ and decided to give a chance to arc sp6b which I just bought in Germany so the voltage is 220 (lucky me this is SO rarely). I hope to recieve it in a week or two. If no...... i put my glance at counterpoint and CAT though it would be much more expensive test :-)
  9. thank you thebes! i will work on leaks cabinets pretty soon - promise :-)
  10. Yes it is true. AI is real tube eater because there are only 1 tube per channel with crazy output impedance -1.2 kOhms. I tried tube rolling in AI. Telefunkens became very noisy. philips sq heerlen (which is the same to what you mentioned as amperex) was better but microphonic feedback (which is a REAL problem of AI) also became much more listenable. The best match was with Mullard Mitcham. Anyway what I personnaly did not like with AI are twi main things: 1. It adds a lot from himself to music (not only to sound) presentation. And some musical accents change 2. At my taste it sounds too dark and closed at highs and unnaturally exaggerated at low mids.
  11. I have no doubts in competence of my tech. Although I have couple of people to help me with technical questions. As for capasitors, resistors and electrolitics which have had to be replaced i went step by step and chose myself what changes I like or dislike. By the way it took more than 6 month for me to complete capasitors choice. So i know how important this tech question is. For now i am fully satisfied with Leaks. I had possibility to compare them in my system with also very nice pieces of gear and the result was quite impressive. As for pre that should match leaks....if i got right there are not such many preamps with phono which recieved good feedbacks for linestage and phono.
  12. I've read that arc sp6b is very close to AI M3A tonallyis that true? Does it mean I have no way to love arc? :-))) And what do you think about CJ Premier two for example? I auditioned CJ CT-6 yesterday and today in my system and it seemed too warm for me in midrange though overall not so bad.
  13. Hi thanx for your post. Yes, my leaks were checked by competent technician. I replaced ac terminals, all capasitors and electrolitics and tubes. Now they are in perfect condition. As for tube rolling I also tried different options. In AI M3A there are 2 tubes in linestage and 2 tubes in phono. After my SF Line3 I got a lot of ecc88 tubes left: telefunken (my fav), mullard Blackburn, mullar Mitchem, Philips SQ, casual Philips Heerlen, Siemens... It did not help though.
  14. pic of my leak? what are u interested of? In Leaks I have got ef86 Mullard Blackburn, ecc81 Telefunken, KT66 GEK smoked glass, GZ34 Mullard Blackburn capasitors are: Sprague Vitamine Q and Dynamicap Electrolits are blue philips
  15. thank you for your reply i do not think this is a question of what i got used to because i still have possibility to run without pre at all straight from reimyo to leaks. And the sound tonnaly is very close to what I had with SF. Of course it lacks bass control and mids are dry a bit but music tonnaly is natural. With AI it becomes TUBE SYSTEM SOUNDS and when I listen to BSO it sounds unnatural and when I listen to let's say Maddy Waters with wide range of dynamic splashes when he plays his guitar with AI it sounds very beautiful and loses brutality and thoise dynamic splashes. You can listen Waters and then Dido with same effect. Hopefully you understand what i mean. i am thinking about old CJ premier two or ARC sp6...but thought there might be some other options...
  16. Dear all i need your help :-) My system is: CMP2 + Reimyo dap-777 Leak tl25 plus La Scala2 I used to have Sonic Frontiers line3 but as soon as my system no longer balanced one and i also decided to go with analog source either I decided to change my pre for another one not balanced but with phono on board. I discovered this topic a bit and got AI Modulus 3A. Though I can't say this is what I want to live with. The sound is too much tubie. Liquidity and smoothness are too much. If you listen to some girls singing - it is perfect but for classical music or blues it becomes unnatural to listen to. Do you have any suggestions for me according to this? thx in forward Igor
