  1. Im sure I probably miss read what you were trying to say.... Yes you did. When I was writing I didn't see what subs you were running and remember some of the dialog in this thread being about cheaper subs...After I saw your signature I edited my response. LOL My take was I thought you were saying if my subs werent capable to run and try the 50 hz tune and then you said EDIT I just saw what subs I had and 50Hz should work well. So I thought you were implying they werent capable and thats why I shouldnt run 80Hz . Ughh its been a long day []
  2. Great advice wuzzer I like the idea of upa-1, but will have enough headroom to handle the dips the rf-7 have? Good sale and good point but I think the upa-1 would handle the 7's fine im running a XPA-3 "rated at 200wpc also" with my 7II's and havent had any clipping problems with movies or music although when they tested the xpa-3 it actually had more power on the table then rated not sure about the upa-1 .
  3. I would experiment but if you are running separate amplification I would try 50 Hz, especially if you don't have a capable sub...If you have the lower end covered 80 Hz would probably be better, but ymmv. {Edit: I just saw what you had as subs and I would think 50 Hz would suffice and make your system blend pretty well...That being said, I don't know anything about the Pio EQ program and if it found your RF-7s to be 80 Hz "in room" that would be something to consider.} Im sure I probably miss read what you were trying to say or your not familiar with the SVS pb13 and pb12 plus but if I read it correctly you said to try 50hz if my sub"s" weren't capable and then you read my sig and suggested 50hz . BTW No offence taken but I assure you my SVS PB13 Ultra and PB12Plus are more then capable : ) They will rattle windows and anything else not nailed down all the way down to sub sonic bass you feel before you can hear .Mid and Low end bass is for sure covered. Im thinking I can get away with 80hz no problem . Thanks for input and again no offence taken : ) I just wanted to clarify . Side note my Pio AVR normaly sets my crossover at 80Hz .
  4. Ever heard of eD? Same thing. Those are great subs !
  5. Sweet congrats man !! Welcome to the RF7II family im glad your sharing the same feelings I am with my 7's cant wait to get the matching 64II : ) Now my next question is weres the pics !!!!! J/K but try to post them man I love looking at the cherry [Y] Yes they are amazing arent they and the bass is so tight and natural but hit Hard !!! And the detail along with crispness makes these speakers a winner . Next you got to pick up this bluray concert and you wont be able to wipe the smile off your face not that you can anyway []
  6. Thanks for the reply but Im running a XPA-3 seperate amp its rated 200wpc and thats conservative the testing from outside sources actually got more but regardless its handling the load the only thing my AVR has to power is my rear channels I was more concerned with my 7's and over working them unnecessarily since it sounds great both crossover settings 50Hz and 80Hz it really is hard to choose at this point it sounds maybe a little better at 50 but Im thinking its just a matter of preference but will have to do some more testing and watch a few more movies and then it might all change when I get my center wright now im not running one so my 7's are handling both duties but surprisingly it still sounds really good.
  7. Thanks and wow you scored on your sub thats a rare deal but your wright there out there if your patient and on the hunt . I've got a question for ya i've been testing out the crossover setting of 50Hz vs 80Hz "Thats the next option down on my avr" and I think im liking 50 vs 80 but its close but im wondering if im working my 7's unnecessarily since it sounds so good both ways if I should just go back to 80 and let my subs handle everything below 80Hz ?
  8. I Decided to hold off on the rs62II and just wait a few weeks longer and get the matching rs64II "Note to self must be patient " and i'd thought it would be appropriate to test out The Haunting in Connecticut with my crossover at 60hz instead of 80hz and still keep the speakers set at small as usual. If I remember correctly it has some sub sonic LFE my place was shaking pretty good the last viewing . EDIT: Well it looks like on my Pio Elite 94 the next crossover point down is 50hz from 80hz not sure if thats going to work but i'll give it a try .
  9. Your probably right about the Polk but try it and see, you don't need a bunch of output for music, movies are a different story. Yes they can get expensive, I went DIY to save money, they are alot of DIY plans out there. Mine cost about $250 not counting the amp for it, BUT it's huge. about 12'' x 35" x 48" just guessing. DIY is another great option there are some pretty basic kits as far as needing very little know how .
  10. The guys are right a sub will bring your HT to a whole new level but as far as a good starter sub I'd go with SVS Pb 10nsd or 12 nsd but there are many options out there and im sure some will chime in but this much I do know you dont want to go with a poor low budget sub or you'll wish you didnt have one . You can get a nice sub that should satisfy you for around 300 bucks and up if you choose wisely .
  11. Thanks for the input and when I mentioned it sounded better on small it seemed to be more separated , like the higher frequencys and bass it seemed to sound cleaner. But I just tested different setting while watching Avatar and G.I Joe . It did sound good though on both settings but after a while of switching back and fourth everything started sounded the same lol . Less Drag on the Amp can be a big help. Lower Frequencies use alot more power than the highs. Try a used amp for the Fronts and see another improvement and the madness continues. No doubt it never ends lol
  12. YES. When set to small only the crossover point and above goes to your 7's, which helps your receivers amp because the 7's do not have to try to reproduce anything below 60Hz, the sub's amp does. Cool thanks man !
  13. Thanks im going to try a ,lower crossover point from 80 to 60 . Thats what I would do. I actually just resetup my parent's system last night bc a HDMI cable had a short in it and somehow all of the receiver settings were set wrong so I redid everything. Reran Audyseey and repositioned the speakers etc. They have a RF-62 system with a RW-10d sub and setting the crossover at 60hz sounded best. When I set them to large with the extra bass feature the 62s actually sounded weak. (i know you wouldn't have that problem with the 7s but the bass was also overpowering) and since the bass was overpowering the overall sound didn't sound too good. Dialog was too low and everything shook the walls. So i set the speakers to small with the crossover at 80 and it sounded way better.....then I set the crossover to 60 and that sounded best. Bass improved but not too much and the 62s sounded better....fuller. So I have their 62s set at 60hz and the center and surrounds set at 80hz. The LFE is set at 80hz. And with those settings the system sounded the best. Even better than when I did it the first time. Of course I got a call 10 min ago saying that there was no picture because apparently someone changed a setting so all of that work last night might have been for nothing. I think imma get them a Harmony remote for christmas. That way they just push one button to watch tv and won't have to worry about numerous remotes. But if you can set the crossover on each channel then I would try that. 60 for the L/R channels and 80 for all other channels. Yes I have a Harmony one and it was one of my best upgrades !! Im going to watch a movie later tonight and try a crossover of 60Hz and see if sounds better then 80Hz and speakers small . 80 and small seems to be the best so far but will see .
  14. As long as your happy thats what counts imo .
  15. So if im understanding this correctly if I set my crossover to 60 then any LFE below 60Hz goes to my subs and above 60Hz goes to my 7's ?
  16. Yes my pio elite always sets my fronts to large and crossover at 80 but 60 sounds like it might be the perfect crossover point and speakers at small .
  17. Thanks im going to try a ,lower crossover point from 80 to 60 .
  18. Thanks man ! Yes i've always had my speakers set to small when having my studios but thought i'd experiment with my 7's . The only thing I havent tryed was my crossover point i've always liked 80 and speakers set to small on my previous setup . Im thinking I might try 60 and everything set to small.
  20. I think thats how I would run them if I didnt have a sub but try small just to see what sounds better but I know that can be difficult to hear the difference sometimes and thats why I started this thread : )
  21. Wow thanks so much guys for all the replies and different views and experiences with settings. What a great group of helpful and true audiophiles !!
  22. Thanks for the reply and thats what im thinking to and thats true they still will be getting some LF's even when set to small . For 2 channel listening though I always run pure direct with my subs off and let my 7's do all the work and they sound amazing. Thanks again for your input !
  23. Well im having a difficult time trying to decide between having my new RF7II's set to small or large and I always normaly set my speakers to small and I do realise thats a golden rule from what i've learned over the years . But with my 7's I've been going back and fourth between setting them to small and large and it almost sounds better set to small but its very close it just seems like a waste to set them to small considering that there 4 10's in huge boxes . My dual SVS subs need no help on the other hand handling my bass needs . My gear is in my sig any suggestions would be much appreciated everyday is a learning curve or should I say year lol just when you think you've got it figured out you learn something new . Thanks in advance for your tips and suggestions . Also i've been tossing around going to a RS62II instead of a RS64II and investing the difference in a few more amps although I know the importance of the center channel im wondering if the 62 would sound good with my 7's plus I ran across a deal on a new 62II for under 400 dollars .
  24. Enjoy!!! Also keep in mind it might take a little while to get use to your new sound running a amp it did me but by the end of the day I was very happy. Well congrats on your new amp !!
  25. Thanks but keep in mind if the 7's will fit you will get use to there size that was one of my concerns going from Paradigm studio 60's the 7's dwarf them but after a while you get use to the size. They dont look as big now but they sure sound big and I also picked up more low volume detail compared to my studios but if you would compare it to your 82's I would think so also but thats just speculation on my part . As Youthman mentioned you will for sure pick up low volume detail with better dynamics with the xpa-3 . Even though nearly 6 x's the cost of the xpa-3 you'll get 10 x's the improvement in performance imo going to 7's but make sure they'll fit into your budget and of course your HT partner lol. I think you could get away with keeping your 62 center without upgrading to 64 and as a matter of fact its something im considering but im not sure at this point but I might take the extra 600 dollar difference and invest in some seperates and if im not happy with the 62 matching with my 7's I could always upgrade later . But this much I do know a center speaker shouldnt be takened lightly because its around 70% to 80% of your sound with movies . I've mis-matched centers before over the years and its still sounded outstanding not being matched but my concern would be the difference in performance between the 62 and 64 not so much matching . Sorry got side tracked a little so back to your choice get the 7's and if it doesnt fit into your budget get the XPA-3 you wont be disapointed imo .
