  1. Don't forget Elemental Designs. From what I've heard, their subs have the most bang for the buck. The only disadvantage is the production wait time. I'm waiting on an A2-300 right now, which is their second cheapest and most popular sub. Their higher-end subs are truly insane, the A7-900 has 2 18" woofers powered by a 1300 watt amp.
  2. jjennings2510: This will be used for almost exclusively for movies. I normally watch about 10 DB below reference level with the current setup, whenever there isn't anyone sleeping nearby. Music from time to time, sure, but it's designed with movies in mind. The center speaker will get the whole shelf, the movies will be moved elsewhere. It is big enough for an RC-52 II, I've already measured. I'll have to see about putting a speaker stand behind the recliner to match the bookcase's height, I'll probably just build one similar to the front left speaker's stand. I'm also concerned about the crossover point for the sub. I have heard that 80 Hz is the best since anything above it can be localized, but all the smallest Reference speakers only go down to about 88-90 Hz. Will this be a problem? Also, what do you think of my plan for hanging one of the smaller centers (RC-10/RC-42 II) from the TV using its stand mount? Fresh123: That sounds perfect, there's just one little problem. The front left's speaker stand is 11.25" deep, the RB-61s are 12.25" deep. I'm sure I'd be able to figure something out, though. How much are you looking to sell them for? Feel free to E-mail me.
  3. I'm currently putting together a budget 5.1 HT system using Klipsch speakers. I'm building it bit by bit as I'm able to afford each component. So far, my only Klipsch speakers are a pair of RB-10s currently acting as front channels. I'm waiting on an Elemental Designs A2-300 subwoofer, and using old Realistic MC-1000s as temporary surrounds. Everything's driven by a Denon AVR-591. I need advice on what route to go for the center and surrounds. There are a couple caveats: I can't wall mount anything, and need to use existing furniture whenever possible. The setup's best explained with pictures: The front of the room. The small speakers are the RB-10s, the left's stand was built to match the height of the right's table. The future subwoofer spot is the bottom right corner. Note the left wall location of the couch, off-center viewing is quite common. More on this later. The back of the room. The large, old speakers are the MC-1000s, and the future surrounds need to go in the same locations. I know it's not ideal, they're not even at the same height, but it's what I have to work with. Side view of the TV table. Note that the TV mounts to the table itself, not to the wall. This is where the center speaker will go, in fact you can see its wire waiting for it. Remember how I said off-center viewing was common? The TV's mount allows it to swivel horizintally so it can face toward you when watching off-center. What I'd like to do is mount the center speaker to the bottom of the TV so they swivel together. I don't plan on actually driving screws into the speaker, rather, I'll build a 4-sided wood box (no front or back) that's just large enough to hold a RC-10 or RC-42 II. I'd mount the upper part of the TV's unused stand to the top of this box, then mount the whole thing to the bottom of the TV before inserting the speaker. This would only work with the smallest Reference centers, anything larger would be too deep. The alternative (and the only option for the RC-52 II) is putting the center on the top shelf of the table, but the surge protector is in the way. It would either have to be placed on top of the speaker, or I'd have to build a small stand to elevate the speaker above the surge protector. So, based on my budget and the fact that the existing RB-10s are here to stay, I've come up with 4 options: 1. Get the rest of the now-outdated RB-10 family: RC-10 center and RS-10 surrounds. RB-10s stay front channels. 2. Same as option 1, but get the new ones: RC-42 II center and RS-41 II surrounds. RB-10s stay front channels. 3. Move the RB-10s to surround duty. Get RB-41 II front channels and RC-42 center. 4. Same as option 3, but upgrade. Move RB-10s to surround duty, get RB-51 II front channels and RC-52 II center. Please recommend which option I should go with and why, or feel free to come up with another alternative. Questions are welcome. Thanks in advance!
