So, started the install over the weekend. Got the complicated task of crating a channel up the wall, through the attic and down behind the TV opened up and ran the HDMI cable and Subwoofer cable, oh and a couple CAT5 cables started. Some specifics on the room and seating position, the room is 32' deep and the seating position is ~12' back from the TV. Going to mount front three 24" from front wall. With those dimensions and seating position, would you still recommend surrounds at halfway point and rear surrounds at 24" from back wall? Thanks again for all your input/help with this.

Dang, I'm really glad you chimed in here Klipsch_Geek, this was exactly the type of info I was hoping for. On a side note, I was in your neck of the woods not TOO long ago. There is a Mies van der Rohe house in Overland Park and I had to go check it out. Youthman, thanks for clearing up that, it was a bit confusing. My receiver is a Yamaha RX-V1900 and my Blu-Ray player is a Yamaha BD-S667 so I should be good to go.

PERFECT! That is Exactly what I wanted to know. Now as far as spacing the rear surrounds from the "side" surrounds, should the distance between the rear surrounds and the side surrounds be equal or more than the distance between the Fronts and the sides?

And so you're recommending placing the rear surrounds as far apart as Front L/R...Interesting. I noticed the Dolby and THX setups showing them close together with even one of those two setups showing them literally side-by-side. I also saw where it looked like the "side" surrounds were outside of the Front L/R and Rear L/R. If you suggest running Front L/R and Rear L/R far apart, would it be ok if Front R, Surround R, and Rear Surround R were all on the same line running the length of the room and then ditto for the Left side? Does that make ANY sense?

Klipsch_Geek I really appreciate your time in responding to this thread with some specifics about my setup. I originally looked at 5800 W's but my mounting depth problem quickly ruled those out. The house was built in '57 and I'm not sure what their reasoning was build the wall the way they did. As I think about it, it woulndn't be INSANE to rip the wall down and redo it, installing the 2x4's the correct way and adding insulation...but I think I'll go with what I've got for now and see how it turns out. There is brickwall, 2x4's laid flat (which,as you mentioned is REALLY only 1.5"), then drywall. No vapor barrier or insulation.

WOW, that's quite a difference rplace. Much prefer the "after" shot! I initially thought about 5800W's but my lack of mounting depth made me go with the C's. Must admit everyone has me a little nervous but without undertaking major construction, I'll go with what I've got. Glad to see your enthusiasm remains intact after all these years. Perhaps I'm getting the bug for one more expensive obsession I DON'T NEED, LOL!!

Yeah, good idea but I can't see myself taking that on. As far as a sub goes I have an RW-10 presently but am eyeing up a SW-310 at Ultimate Electronics going out of bidness sale right now. It's at 40% right now, if I gets to 50% I'll probably jump on it. They also have a couple RW-308's that look intriguing as well. Specs appear to be slightly similar/better to my RW-10 and its pretty crazy small. THose are getting pretty cheap too. What is your take on subs?

Unfortunately the wall the TV is on is up against an exterior BRICK wall so there is litterally the thickness of the drywall, 1.5" of 2"x4" and then solid brick so I have no mounting depth. You're right, the echo cold be serve, ESPECIALLY with the speakers pointing down. This room is the best candidate for TV viewing. The other end of the house is all bedrooms/office and too small for a theatre room, ESPECIALLY for a 7.1 setup. It's a challenging setup/room for sure, it may not win any awards for sound quality, but I'm really looking forward to what I feel will be an upgrade from my present HTIB (see, I KNEW there was an acronym for that!!).

Awesome, thanks Carl. So here are two photos of the room taken from both ends. As you can see the room is VERY deep. The display will ALWAYS be on the wall it is on presently, although the display will change at some point. So, I was initially wondering how far behind the back of the couch to put the rear surround speakers, and I was even thinking I might put them a little deeper into the room in case I find the seating position to be too close to my future display. This same concern has me leaning towards also mounting the "side" surrounds more towards 110-degrees so that if i move the seating position back there would be enough room for them to then be at 90-degrees.

Well, guess I'm screwed/stuck/insertyourfavoritedescriptorhere I have a feeling these are going to sound better than my Panasonic Home Theatre In a Box (I'm SURE there's an acronym for such in these parts) as long as I get them placed where they are supposed to be. Perhaps I even used the term "home theatre" too loosely in this forum. It's not TRULY a DEDICATED Home Theatre as much as it is our living/family room where we just-so-happen to watch TV. I have an Interior Designer for a wife so I have to pick my battles when it comes to things that the wife isn't particularly interested in but knows what she DOESN'T want. I have to admit most A/V setups look like gigantic elephants in the room so I was attempting to satisfy us both. All the speakers ( 3 CDT-5800 C's and 4 R-5800 C's ) have been purchased. FORTUNATELY, the R-5800s were used and I got them for $100/ea. I got TWO of the CDT-5800's NIB for $100/ea and the last one a paid a PREMIUM of $185 NIB. So, I'm not out a FORTUNE and will "make due" with what I have. NOW LET'S ALL GO FIND US A NEWBIE TO FLAME!!! Cheers, Matt
