  1. I'm currently using a set of Promedia 5.1 Ultra's in my bedroom hooked up to my iPod and am considering simplifying and getting an ifi set.

Curious as to how they compare or if this is a foolish move?

sound quality is more important than surround with my current layout.

  2. The difference in the $400 to $600 price range would put those two sets of speakers in the exact same catagory. The price difference being in the inclusion of the decoder with the Videologic system.

Both systems are entirely geared to a multi media setup as well, but you are correct, it boils down to personal preferance and personally I love my Klipsch. Smile.gif

  3. There's already been a hundred and one posts on this topic, so to break it down very simply, If you need lots of extra connections Go with the GTXP, if all you need is a basic 5.1 sound card with Great sound get the Philips Acoustic Edge. Both are great cards and both are better than their SoundBlaster equivalent.

As to your second question the 5.1;s are supposed to have spring clips on the back of the speakers rather than the miniplugs. So any wire can be used easily.

  4. Trust me Gluegun, anyone who is anyone plays at the "hotels" in Vegas. I've seen people pay $1500 for a single seat at an event at the MGM Grand.

Thanks Mike. Luxor's a nice place. I've stayed there a couple of times, not since they expanded though.

I love Vegas, Its my favorite place on earth. Hopefully moving there next year.

  5. If your interested in the 5.1 decoding for music that the Acoustic Edge offers but still want the great features of the Game Theater XP don't fret. Qsound who does all the decoding for the AE has a software solution that can be used with any sound card. Qsound is a Calgary based company. I contacted them yesterday and they say they will have a program that will give you the same 5.1 decoding as the AE available in about 6 weeks.

Great, something else to wait for now.

  6. It started out just casually, checking the forums once in a while to see when these cool new speakers I had heard about where going to be released. Then I started posting messages myself and checking back 2 and 3 times a day. Now its the very first thing I do in the morning: Wake up, Check Klipsch, Eat Breakfast, Check Klipsch, and so on... My God, I check to see if the 5.1's have been released more than I check my E-mail. When they finally do release the 5.1's and I have nothing more to check, I'm going to go through withdrawals.Smile.gif

Hopefully with time and heavy medication, this too will pass. cwm32.gif

  7. First of all check the posts on the Sound Card forum, you'll find a lot of good infomration there.

Second, your TBSC is an Excellent choice for the 5.1's.

As far as sound quality goes, it's better than the Sound Blaster, and equivalent to any other card out there. The only advantage you would get with another card (Game Theatre XP) would be an external box and extra connections.
