  1. stpeteshepherd occasionally comes to the forums here. He has been known to repair/upgrade the sub amps. If you just want another sub amp, then he has one here for sale all ready to go complete with upgraded higher quality components and internal cooling. Either way, you may be able to contact him through his Ebay page. ___________________________________________ http://www.ebay.com/itm/KLIPSCH-5-1-ProMedia-THX-Computer-Speakers-Amplifier-upgraded-cooling-parts-/230832350067?pt=US_Computer_Speakers&hash=item35beae2373#ht_3556wt_1398
  2. I have the ultra 5.1 set. The original problem I had was a constant slight low hum that would not change volume with the volume control. So, I replaced the two 100uF 35V caps on the mainboard. That cured it, but now I have a medium pitch hum that's is only audible through speakers, not the headphones and it increases in volume as I turn the volume up, but only apparent after 40-45 on the volume. Definitely stands out more on the front right speaker. Any ideas? Also noticed when I replaced the 100uF caps around the two small black heatsinks, there was a lot of brown crusty crud. Is that that dried up thermal grease or something?
  3. Also, I believe stpeteshepherd does repairs and makes a cooling kit for these speakers to prevent overheating issues. You can probably contact him through this forum or his Ebay page. here is the upgrade/cooling kit he makes : http://www.ebay.com/itm/330635798052#ht_2586wt_1396
  4. This forum usually stays very quiet. If you have someone that can test it for you, here are some schematics. Here: http://www.thompdale.com/bash_amplifier/5-1/5-1_bash_amp.htm and Here: http://www.thompdale.com/bash_amplifier/HC1010_HC1011/HC1010_HC1011.htm Hope this helps and good luck. I love mine and although they give me issues every now and then, I'll keep them until they crumble. ~Dave
  5. Hello, The issue I am having is that I can be listening to some music, watching videos or chatting on Ventrilo with someone and just randomly get a loud electronic noise that sounds like a a tone from holding a button down on a old touch tone phone except very distorted. The sound of it is at least twice as loud as I have the volume set at and does not change with volume adjustment. It lasts for 5-10 seconds and then stops. I usually don't hear it again for maybe another 12-24 hours. When it does happen, after the noise quits, sometimes my channels will be mixed (center from rear left, front right coming from rear right, etc) other times it just stops and channels remain normal. There is also a barely perceptive static buzz that I can hear through the speakers and the headphones, and it does not change with volume. The only way to hear it is to put your ear up to the speaker, but is more noticeable with headphones equipped obviously due to a quieter environment. The buzz doesn't bother me since it is not noticeable while listening to content at anything above speaking volume. The random loud noise is however, intolerable. Hopefully an easy remedy. I have had this 5.1 Ultra system since they came out, In fact they were replacements for the original THX 5.1 Promedia from Klipsch when I sent those in for repair. Is this a sign of my wonderful speakers headed for their grave? I've gone through the forum and couldn't find any postings with a similar issue as mine other than buzzing. Thanks for any input the community may have. ~Dave
