  1. I ordered Crites AA rebuild kit today. I will do one of the speakers and leave the other alone and sit between them (in mono mode) and see how big of a difference there is. My La Scalas are 1976's with original AA crossovers.
  2. Just got off the phone with Jeff Pulliam at Danley, $2,365 for two sub kits delivered. Not bad. He told me to talk to the engineers at Danley before investing in a seperate amp and EQ per sub. I must say, Jeff was extremely helpful, and represented that company very well. I know they are the only people I am going to consider for my sub(s). If I get these subs for $2365, I could sell them for what I have in them if I need to invest in a couple TH-212's instead. I need to talk to their engineers and see what they have to say before I make my order. This is getting more fun by the second! []
  3. There are a large variety of Yamaha and Beringer amps. I have a local Yamaha dealer in town that price matches, so I am going to tend to go that way. Have any of you had experiences with the Yamaha amps and EQ's? The confusing part is matching the watts with the danley's. The Danleys are 1,000 rms and 2000 programmed. Does that mean I buy a 2000 wat amp or a 1000 watt amp? Thanks
  4. I have been reading that many of the US capacitors are made by RTI Electronics, in Anaheim, CA. They are regarded as high quality. It was speculated Soniccaps were a product of theirs.
  5. Can you ceiling mount RS-52 II speakers? RF-62 II Home Theater System has it all: http://www.klipsch.com/na-en/products/rf-62-ii-1-overview/ If you mount the speakers in the ceiling you will lose the ability to aim the speaker if needed. It isn't all about the quality of the speaker.
  6. This is sounding like a fun project. I am also going to replace the capacitors on the type AA X-over. It still has the old can type. I see that Danley has its own brand of capacitors. I wonder if they are better than the sonicaps Crites sells. Opinions? I will be ordering the sub kits from Danley tommorrow. I plan on getting discreet equalizers and amps and placing the new subs right next to the La Scalas. Unless I miss my guess this should be the best placement... Thoughts?
  7. 100' ones for under $20 including shipping. http://www.buy.com/prod/rca-antenna-cable-100-ft-f-connector-antenna-f-connector-antenna-black/q/sellerid/11408470/loc/111/204020407.html
  8. This is from the Gateway tech site: Digital speakers (Digital out) jack - Plug digital speakers into this jack. This jack is color-coded orange. Perhaps this could be of use? It should be a S/PDIF of the coax type. A single coax from that to the digital in (RCA) on the receiver and you should be set. A big plus is you will also get full surround sound for DVD's etc... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882750004&cm_re=digital_coax-_-82-750-004-_-Product They have them in 15', but I didn't see a 40' one. Since it is 75 ohm I figure they come in longer lengths in places like black box.
  9. So a grand for the speakers each. What do the EP4000 and the DCX2496 go for? I'm just trying to figure out which nut to auction off.... Seriously, I need to have an idea of cost. []
  10. Just to be clear, you are basically running out of your headphone jack on the puter into the receiver's RCA in's via a headphone jack to RCA stereo splitter. You are getting a hum through the receiver, and you want that to go away. To start with, try headphones in the jack and see if it is the puter. If those work OK, then try using a different RCA input (like the VCR in) and see if you get the hum. One responder mentioned a ground issue. It could also be a contact issue or even the splitter. I assume you don't have a digital sound out of any kind on the puter or a digital in on the receiver. As you surely know, those are superior interfaces by a huge degree. USB is even better than the analog headphone/RCA setup. Somehow I think you probably know all this stuff I just said, but I am trying to think this through as though it was my own problem.
  11. The Darley's are very nice indeed. I see they have many models available. I have a couple questions: How did you decide on the TH-412 of everything they offer? You mentioned buy or build. I can build one? As in a kit or something? I am not seeing prices either... Can these things be suspended, or must they rest on the floor? Srry for all the questions.
  12. I put a pair of La Scalas in the front left and right on my Integra DTR 5.9. Those speakers are approximately 30' from the center listening position. The center channel is using a pair of Paradigm Cinema 220 speakers next to eachother horizontally (one just coundn't cut it!). They seem to be able to keep up with the La Scalas nicely. The sub is a Paradigm DSP-3200. The other speakers are all Cinema 220's. The Integra receiver is driving the La Scalas nicely, but I DEFINITELY need more bass, and some different satelite speakers. I question whether La Scalas would work well as rears in my application. As it stands I am very weak in the sub area, and more La Scalas seem like they would only make that worse. My plan is to get LOTS more bass, and to go with something Cornwall or smaller for the rear and sides. As for acoustic foam, I may indeed need that. The sounds are bouncing a lot on all those hard surfaces. There needs to be more places for the sound to get absorbed. Those things that hang from the ceiling may be the best thing in my application. Any opinions on bass? The actual volume of the building I am trying to fill with sound is probably about 80,000 cu ft! The actual listening area volume is 50,000 of that. Wish I could get a set of these for cheap:
  13. By the way. Buying a pair of Lascalas tomorrow. A buddy has a 77 model Preamp/Amp he's gonna lend me through the transition. I'm stoked.
  14. sad face I am clear down in WV. I have 7 motorcycles. wife says no more. Anybody interested in an 08 Husky TE510? Not sure what it is worth, but it is a cream puff.... I think it is has 60hp at the rear wheel. Not too shabby for a dirt bike.. If I weren't pushin 50 I might wanna keep her...
  15. It is part auto shop, part muscle car museum, but mostly man-cave. Here are some photos that show it some... Here is a picture looking down from the mezanine... Shows the ceiling and you can see the mezanine just in front of the car. Dance floor up there. I use for storage for now. Here is the LF speaker Finally the back of the shop... Picture is worth a thousand words...
  16. The Marantz AV7005 lists for $1,500. The the Marantz MM8003 is available on Ebay for about $1900. That is MSRP $3,400. Is it the MM8003 you were referring to? Crutchfield has it as discontinued. I see Marantz 8B's all the time on Ebay for $1,500 or so. What about 3 of those jewels running off the AV7005? That would raise the ante to $6K, though.
  17. What is a pre/pro? Is that another term for pre-amp? Do you have a recomendation on pre/pro and poweramp for the reference setup you mentioned?
  18. Can somebody tell me what the Jubilee speaker is? I did the search and read for about a half hour and now have a headache. From what I gather it is a cinema Klipsch with a built in mono amp. Actually I have no frikin idea what one is. [:^)]
  19. Looks like it belongs on the dash of a Bentley.
  20. I have heard all of the vintage Klipsch speakers. I demo-ed them back in college, but could not afford them. [] . . . Now I can. [] What I wasn't sure of was the type of amp vintage Klipsch worked with. So you are saying the Integra would work fine with the lascala or cornwalls, right? Why would I need a sub? Don't those things have great frequency response? What about the cable size? There is a 100' or more cable going to the far speakers. What guage would you recommend? One more thing. A lascala for a center speaker? Where the hell would I put that? [] Thanks all! [D]
  21. I have a very large gathering room. The ceilings are 20', and the room dimensions are 50' X 50'. I currently have an Integra Receiver with 110 watts/ channel, and Paradigm Cinema 220's and a Paradign 12" powered sub and a 55" flat panel TV on the wall. This setup is OK when a group just wants to sit and watch a show or a movie, but when we want to turn the volume up, the system just doesn't hit hard enough. I want to be able to turn on some AC/DC, Aerosmith, or Stones, and wake up the 70's in a big way. I also LOVE the blues if that matters in your advice(s). I am willing to just get a CD player, amp/preamp (tubetype if needed), and a couple big *** speakers, and have them seperate from the 5.1 system. What setup do you recommend I buy to fill this room? What should I spend? ( I do have money, but I don't like throwing it away needlessly.)
