  1. I am am re-mounting the heights tonight and I will take some pics. I have the RF-82II's at 40Htz...my reciever goes in multiples of 20....like 40Htz then go to 60 HTZ....there must be a setting I am missing LOL!! I was thinking 70-80Htz for the center...I am geting the RC-64II in a few days!! I appreciate your help my friend!!!
  2. Yes, in theory you could. Again, it depends on how it sounds to you. I find that my sub set so high makes the low end suffer. (Again, my speakers can do 120hz no problem. I let them. I let the sub focus on ONLY what the Heresy Is can NOT do). I have my system tuned more for music. I like my sub to "hit" and do so hard on the bass drum. At 120hz; I feel (and hear) this becomes compromised. It is only one woofer; capable of playing only so much at once; without becoming "muddy". (a 15" sub might be more susceptible to this, it is a bigger woofer requiring more energy to keep moving). Again.... Your ears are different. Try every combination you can think of. What I am trying (and succeeding) to acheive is clean; clear undistorted sound for music and great HT, not overly bass heavy. If your goal is a bass heavy system with a bit more muddyness (because you mostly play HT); then that is what you should select. The muddyness is less pronounced during movies. Remember to tune using music you like also (If you will be playing music regularly). Also.... remember that getting this tuned the way you like can take weeks or months of experimentation. Little nuances will present themselves; positive or negative. You react to them and then try again...... Welcome to being an HT hobbyist..... My goal is the best sound possible. Others have different goals. My advice is predicated on my goal...... Good Luck. Okay I am seeing the picture....I hardly ever play music...mostly gaming and HT...I do like my bass heavy....I run Audyssey and always turn the bass up 4-6Db because it sets it way to low for my taste. So basically you do let your speakers do some of the highend frequency bass and your sub is mid-to low frequency bass......I want my sub on as much as possible but with good sound. I did like your advice on the speaker crossover at 40 htz It is a different sound....it is almost like it has more detailed information. When I had them set to 80Htz it seems like the detailed sounds where not played?? Like say a gun is shot and you here the casings hit the ground....at 40 Htz it seems a lot more pronounced...at 80 Htz I barely hear it. To clarify: If I set my speakers to 40-60 HTz and my sub at 120Htz I will get bass up to 120htz and my speakers will play 40-60 htz and up? Am I understanding this correctly?? I hope Iam not annoying everyone with these newbie questions LOL!
  3. I will try this!! I appreciate all the advice...I will leave the center at 80 I guess?? Here is the specs: FREQUENCY RESPONSE: 57Hz-24KHz ± 3dB So I guess 80 would be good? Whatever your speakers are rated (57 hz; 60 or 80 would be good). You just want to avoid sending below the low rating to the speaker. (Distortion). So if your Rfs are at 37hz-24khz, the lowest I would go is 40hz. You are going to have to experiment and find what you like best. This may take weeks or even months; if you are a perfectionist. Enjoy the madness...... You have really helped me! So if this is true my surrounds would want to be at 60Htz also?? maybe 40Htz?? FREQUENCY RESPONSE: 46Hz-23kHz +/-3dB I think 60 hz should work fine; but...... You have to decide this through experimenting. (I have mine at 80; but my surrounds do not go down to 40hz; I think it is like 67hz or something). 60 hz might start to distort the surrounds at higher volumes. The idea is to get the fullest sound with the most bass WITHOUT DISTORTION. The #1 enemy of speakers is distortion. As you turn volume louder, It begins as the speaker gets "fuzzy" then progresses to total sound breakup. (Clipping an amp will blow a speaker faster, That sounds like feedback; kinda hard to describe) See what works; and be sure you can recognize when a speaker is distorting. (Clipping the amp will be kinda obvious). That makes sense...I do have a stupid question....you said to set the crossover to get the most bass correct?? If I set my sub crossover at 120Htz wouldn't I get more bass since it would play bass up to 120Htz?? I am still learning as you can tell lol!! So if my speakers are set at say 60Htz...the speakers play sound from 6oHtz and up and bass from 60Htz and down? Isn't that less bass??

  5. That sub hits like a ton of bricks LOL!! should I set the wides at 60Htz also?

  7. Being that you are using a receiver with your setup, disable the subs crossover by either setting it to off or setting it to the highest frequency and let your Denon handle bass management. If your Denon is like my Onkyo, you can set the crossovers for each speaker and set the LFE channel to another frequency. Bill I turned up the crossover to its highest. I can set the crossovers for each speaker and the go to bass mode and adjust the crossover for LFE. So from the info below I was going to set the floor speakers at 60Htz, surrounds at 80htz and the center at 80htz and the sub at 80 htz....does this sound good guys??? I really appreciate all the advice in this thread.
  8. 80Htz for the sub or for the speakers and sub.I thought yoi had said 50Htz for the speakers earlier? My reciever goes in multiples of 10 so I can do 40,50,60, ect.
  9. 80Htz for the sub or for the speakers and sub.
  10. Well I guess 3rd time is a charm....3rd amp works!!! Now I am trying to absorb all this info you guysd have offered so kindly and I was going to set the crossover on the speakers at 60Htz and the sub at?? Here are the specs on the sub: Frequency response os 18-100HTZ I have learned more in this thread then I have in about 2 months LOL!!
  11. Herre is what it states;FREQUENCY RESPONSE: 33Hz-24KHz ± 3dB So what do you suggest I sedt the frequency response at? 45-htz?
  12. If you set all speakers to 40Htz wont that only allow your speakers to play all frequencies up to 40 htz...I am a bit confused LOL!!
  13. So basically when everyone told me to set all to 80Htz that was just a average...well i want the full potential of my speakers....I will say that when I run audyssey it sets them at 40Htz. So when you are sayinf set to 40 htz I will get better sounds or more information...I am all ears LOL!! i have the same sub as you so I will try the 100htz. I will admit I did find it weird that no matter what speaker I had they said 80HTZ...guess that is a all around good frequency....I will check the stats.
  14. I also noticed I have Audyssey EQ set to "Audyssey flat" instead of "Audyssey"....flat always sounded better to me.
  15. They tested both the amps and they were said to of had voltage?
  16. That is what most do...why would you want your speakers wasting power on bass when you have a dedicated sub? There are many reasons: If you are running seperates; or a really big receiver (Denon makes a 150 WPC receiver). Klipsch are efficient. Also, RF7s do 40hz and below. For music; a sub probably is not needed. For HT; I have seen people do both; depends on many factors; including room size; type of speaker; amp/seperates vs receiver; source; the listeners type of music and even just because it sounds better........ The goal is the best sound; but my "best sound" may be different than yours...... I put my at 80Htz because that was what I was told to do by guys at audyssey, avs ect...they never gave me a reason why LOL!! when my sub is working do you still suggest 60Htz for the speakers?? and 80Htz for the sub. Why does everyone say 120Htz for sub/bass setting??
  17. He overnighted the 3rd amp and will give my money back at anytime. Yep, my other cheap sub works great! I would like to know who makes this amp? Also does it matter that the amps I am getting are 300 wattt RMS and it is supposed to have a 500 watt RMS? My dads A-300 works great LOL!!

  19. Yeah I can acess it easily...they had me do a test to make sure it was not the woofer...they had me take a AA battery and touch the positive wire to the positive side on the batter and the ground to the ground and it made a maovement and he said that was a indication it was not the speaker. The speaker test they had you try would be a correct way to test. If it moved with the battery it is likely fine. (Can you push the woofer in and out gently?) Yep....easily. When I touched the battery it moved. Is there a reason to take the speaker out and isperct all the connections on the speaker (hot lead, ground & ground loop)?
  20. The first amp was alo doing some crazy things...when you turned the volume up the woofer would go out with the volume, when you turned it down it would go inward so you could basically make the woofer go in and out with the volume knob without a cabel hooked up. They tested that amp and they found a problem with the volume knob (Taciamoter "spelling"??) was bad in it and was not getting the correct contact. It was also out-putting current instead of drawing it I believe.
  21. Sorry, I missed this thread's continuance. Was watching "The Adjustment Bureau". Top Notch Flick! Jason, I was suggesting a 60hz crossover because on most receivers; that is the lowest setting. (60hz and the sub takes over below that; set to small). As mentioned; many receivers do not allow "Large" with a sub; "Large" disables the sub pre out. I have tried my Heresies both ways; but the sub and small setting/ 60hz Xover wins. (Getting the Heresy bass to stay in phase with the sub bass is difficult and seems to vary based on style of music. Better in my case to just let the sub do the work; and give the amp more headroom). RF7s with music probably do not need a sub; but the original OP wants to get his sub working. (The immediate goal is just troubleshooting; to get it to work any way possible). RF7s with HT probably do; and to each his own on the best way of integrating his/her sub into the system. Steven M makes some good points. The best way to be sure what is better is to try both. I am really glad I did. Anyway; I hope now it makes why I recommended what I did. After reading this thread; I agree with the above comment. Either the wiring or the driver itself may have a short. I suggest contacting ED and telling them to send a COMPLETELY new unit that has been tested. OP; Good Luck. I was going to watch that movie tonight LOL!! I have another Amp coming in in the morning...I tested the sub with the battery test like I stated above is that a good enough test or is there another test I can perform?? I may just ask for a new woofer to see if that cures the problem. I may take the woofer out tonight and look at ALL connections. I waited 8 weeks for this sub and really want it to work LOL!!

  24. I want to make sure we are on the same page LOL!!1. Speakers set to 60 Htz (all speakers correct?) I have them at 80Htz...will cahnge them to 60 Htz....wondering how this would effect the sub??? Not saying you are wrong, just trying to learn LOL!! 2. You said to set the sub to 80 htz...."do you mean the bass setting"? I have the SW mode set to LFE (get this when speakers are set to small). I then have the "LPF for LFE set to 120Htz (suggested by Audyssey) is this what you suggest setting to 60 htz?? 3. All speakers are set to small....I always did this because there is no need for bass to come out of my speakers when my sub will do the job LOL!! 4. Should I disable the Audyssey EQ?? My speakers will not sound great if I do....I rather not do this and if this sub requires that I will return it LOL!!
