  1. Thats good to hear. Like i said i cannot detect any noise when sending it 20HZ signal with large excursions. I think the noise i get is from the amplifier on the bottom which has some sort of an AIR LEAK. And the air leak starts making noise Above 30HZ for some strange reason. I first thought it was an internal wood rattling, but earthquake says their subwoofer boxes are built super tight with braces and the box could not be resonanting.

-The Magma drivers are one of the toughest looking woofers out there and i hoped they hold up as good as they look. It would be pretty sad if you could hurt the driver by using it at its MAX volume. But, Again, some guy claimed he blew up his SUNFIRE.

  2. I need some advise here. I was playing around with my Earthquake MKIII today and accidently played a subwoofer test song and the volume was pretty high. The sub pretty much hit its peak excursions. After this, i was a little worried and tested the subwoofer with all speakers off:

I hear noise when the subwoofer is playing at higher volumes. I don't know if this is normal. I can't here the noise when the speakers are on. Are subwoofers suppose to make noise when they are doing big excursions, besides smooth bass? I did a signal test at 15 HZ at high volume and can't detect any noise from the woofer.

    - Basically, how do you know if a woofer is damaged? I also thought its difficult to hurt this subwoofer since its amp is optically controled limiting clipping. So guess the only way to hurt it if you over excurse the woofer?

  3. So you guys are saying long through woofers break? That don't make sense, since the motor structure is designed for long through. I guess the voice coil could wear out like a engine does. The surround nor the cone could be damaged in many years. I'm sure this thing has more output than many instore 12" subwoofers like Polks,JBLs,Sony's... For 8" cubed, it basically has a 7 inch wooofer except the surround probably takes 3 inches of it up. I would love to hear this thing in action. I was amazed how small the junior was when i saw it in the store, now its even smaller.

Majestic 200 provides twice the efficiency and twice the output of the short-lived Junior product, which it replaces. Carver claims the active driver's 3" excursion and 3lb. box pressure combine to move 200 cubic inches of airoffering the same performance as the original 11" True model.

    Its 8 inches square! TINY!

I always thought while sitting in the bathroom, won't it be cool to make the smallest possible subwoofer with really huge excursion... well here it is.

also the insides of a HGS-10 IS THAT A BIG MAGNET OR WHAT, the innner box is basically all magnet and amp!

  5. I guess you have a point.

Let me refrase my statement: The best subwoofer you can have for under $1500 (where most peoples budget is). I don't think its fare comparing a dual SVS to anything unless your just considering price. For the cost of Single CS-Ultra subwoofer w/Samson amp package ($1400), i think the earthquake is the winner.

If you think its fare comparing SVS-ultra pairs, than why don't we compare TWO Earthquake MKIV-12 to two SVS ultra (can be had for $2000 total online).

HGS-18 - can't find cheaper than $2000 thus over our limit, plus too big and heavy.

Revel - too expensive way over $1500

JBL - don't know, and haven't seen anywhere... maybe you can show me a link.

I think you would have to agree for $1500 it really can't be beat unless you build your own something...

  6. Actually the MKII and MKIII look identical in even the driver placment. The MKIII however has an updated passive radiator. The MKIV is the one with the new 180 deg driver placment. They also removed the bass boost option from the amp and made the cabnet a tiny bit smaller. All i know is its a good sub, maybe not an SVS killer, but something that should be included in all those reviews. It could possibly come second or third in subs in under 2k.

  7. The Ear, you didn't say anything about the earthquake. Have you ever compared it with your sunfire? I hear it smokes it.Cool.gif - "After the police left my house (apparently they received reports of an explosion somewhere in my neighborhood), I picked up the pieces of broken glass (no joke) and inserted the True Lies laserdisc into my LD player."

"To put it plainly, the Earthquake SuperNova is quite simply the most amazing subwoofer I've ever tested."

  8. I sold my klipsch KSW-12 and got about $300 for it and then bought the SuperNova for $590 - A STEAL BRAND NEW IN THE BOX. I know where to get it for $625 still brand new MKIII-12 - I keep listening to my musican and keep saying WOW! And trust me, I know good bass; you can call me a bass freak. I like my bass deep and clean.

I have never head the SVS, so i cannot say its worse or better. But again i say that i would rather have a 15" cube in a corner than a 3 FOOT high cylinder. Further more, for the price i paid for the unit, i couldn't have gotten an SVS Ultra any how.

  9. I have had my Earthquake Super Nova MKIII-12 for 3 days and its been amazing. I am only using it for music. I never new the amount of bass i was missing in certian songs. This thing goes deep and i mean deep. I have heard alot of low end subwoofers (had KSW-12) and car subwoofers, but nothing i have ever heard came to the sheer presence of this 70 Pound 15" Cube Monster. According to the manual, you can reach 100dB @ 10HZ, 108dB @15Hz, 128dB @30Hz. I don't even want to test it too loud incase i cause some kind of damage to my weak constructed room/house. I know every body talks about SVS and how great they are, ok, but the SVS ultra is so much bigger! SuperNova for its size, its unbelivable. I actually had a chance to speak to the designer of the sub. According to him this subwoofer surpasses the sunfire, and he claims their is no better subwoofer at any cost. For you audiophiles, this sub is not boomy to me at all. I couldn't stand listing to music with the KSW-12 I had because it sounded so 1 Note. Not anymore, bass is acurate smooth deep and flat in repsonse. You can tell this is a quality sub when in the box you find a Birth Certificate with about 6 signatures of the people who put it together and tested it and a graph displaying its response measured.

  10. Actually. Car subs are used in home subwoofers. There is really no difference. For instance take Earthquake sound, they took their nice Magma Drivers with huge Xmax of 18mm and placed it with a passive radiator in a home sub. I don't think a car sub that has low excursion would work well at home since you need to move alot more air in a home.

  11. I have a 1 meter length of the Monster interlink 100 stand cable. I am going to use a Monster Cable Y adapter at the reciever end and then connecting the Monster 100 Pair from the Y to the Subwoofer. Is this okay to power my Soon to Arrive earthquake MKIII subwoofer. Worked fine for the Klipsch i had. Most people use a Y adapter at the Subwoofer END and then bring only 1 cable from the reciever, i'm doing the opposite.
