  1. Oh my god. Someone else has the same problem that I'm having. I switched to a Santa Cruz from SBLive and the same problem occurs, even worse. The extraneous sound is even louder than before. I think the difference is because Santa Cruz Rears are more amplified than SB Live. I've tried everything I can on the software side, including reinstalling OS, reinstalling the drivers...etc, and nothing fixed it. So I don't think its software related. Also I messed around with the bios too, so I don't think its bios related either. So either its something hardware related, or something is just wrong with the speakers. Here are my system specs KT7 w/ Duron Win XP Pro Santa Cruz I really want to get this thing fixed, because it is a very ANNOYING PROBLEM! BTW, I think anything that uses 4 channel sound will make the speakers act up. But because the speakers only crack on certain frequencies, you won't notice it in games because most games don't have continous music playing. Games liks CS only have soundeffects, and I think most of the time it won't cause the speakers to crack. If you can find a game that has a lot of music, try it and see if you notice the speakers cracking. This message has been edited by Heifetz on 09-26-2001 at 12:09 PM
  2. I'm not sure what the difference between hiss and static is. But the sound anomoly is not just one frequency, again its like paper rustling. So I guess its like static. I have the 4.1s. Also, upon closer listening, all four speakers actually make this sound. But it seems the right front speaker is the least noticable. The left front exhibits this sound at the greatest volume, and the two rears are in between. What did you do to solve this problem? Heifetz
  3. Ok, I thought that this was a SB Live issue, so I went out and bought a TB Santa Cruz, and install it, but the hiss is still there! I even clean installed Win XP, and its still there. I cannot get rid of it. So what causes the hiss? Well, the speakers has to be in a 4 speaker setting. When it is on a 2 speaker setting, the left front speaker doesn't hiss. Even when it is on a 4 speaker setting, I can set the balance to all left or all right, or all front or all rear, and the left front stops hissing! Its only when all four speakers are on, for some inexplicable reason, the left front hisses. And it does not constantly hiss either, it just hisses it seems at certain frequencies. What is going on here! This is REALLY ANNOYING! Please help or give me suggestions on what can possibly be wrong. Thanks Heifetz This message has been edited by Heifetz on 09-19-2001 at 11:28 AM
  4. This is a very unusual situation. I just bought a new set of 4.1s and when I play music, the left front speaker cracks on certain frequencies WHEN the surround is on. When I turn down the surround to Min, there is no distortion. The cracks are not overtly loud, but I can still hear them sitting in my chair. I'm pretty sure its not a speaker problem because I switched the speakers around, and its always the left front that cracks. And also, it stops cracking when the sourround is turned down. So is this a soundcard issue? I have SB PCI512 (which is basically a live value w/o spdif out) on Win XP Pro. Heifetz This message has been edited by Heifetz on 09-09-2001 at 03:30 PM
