  1. My wife noticed the volume decrease as well. I don't think it's an ear issue. My hearing seems to be just fine, and hopefully that holds up. I can say that after watching a movie sometimes my ears can have a slight ringing to them. I seem to be the only one who suffers from this in my house. This happened after we first watched Avengers, and I had it pretty loud. I try to not go too crazy with the volume, but sometimes it's great to blast it. Usually only turn it up on the weekends for family movie night. Thanks for the advice and tips. I'll probably try running the YPAO again and see what happens. I was hoping everyone would say I need a new receiver. Haha.
  2. I haven't ran the ypao again, but I have manually increased the volume of each of the speakers. still lacking. don't want to have to wander to far from the ypao calibration.
  3. So I've had my rf 82 fronts and rc62 since last February. I power them with a Yamaha rxv671. it seems as time goes by I have to keep turning the volume louder to get the same levels of volume. by this I mean I used to set the volume at -28db for normal tv watching, and -14db for bluray when we crank it for movies. now when watching tv I have to set volume to upwards of -20db to -18db and -8db to -4db for bluray. is this normal? is my receiver failing? I like to watch tv loud when watching nfl, but even when cranking volume up to even -14 or more, it's still not that loud. it used to get so much louder. these speakers still get plenty loud and powerful for movies, but as stated earlier that's with turning volume higher than I used to.
  4. I did have some ir on my gt50, but I was more referring to the many stories I read about on AVS. I actually returned it due to s really dull, blurry unsharp pq when watching non 1080p/bluray material, which I watch a lot. many gt owners complained of this, while some didn't notice it. to me the Sammy has a much sharper pq on all content. the blacks are better on the gt50, but I'll take the sharper pq. for me the tv has great brightness, and my tv is in a moderately bright room. the main issue with the Samsung is that many many people complain about the tv buzzing. unfortunately after trying two of them, they both buzzed. I don't notice it most of the time, and learning to live with it when I do. still can be annoying at times. just use my klipsch to drown it out. that being said, I do really like the Samsung. I have the 60" e7000. only bringing this up because the op said he's already been on AVS researching, so he's probably read about all these issues already.
  5. without going into pros and cons on either tv (there's plenty of that on AVS) just be careful of IR with the Panasonic, especially during break in. that tv is still very prone to it. just letting you know, so that hopefully you won't have issues. if you haven't gone to AVS already I would recommend avoiding it at least until you make up your own mind on what you think of the set. it's very easy to get influenced and to start looking for problems you might otherwise not have noticed. that's been my problem. I only brought up ir becauseit seems to be avoidable with proper care, and its not covered under warranty. btw, the newer Samsung 3d glasses work with the gt50. they aren't quite as nice, but they are less than half the cost.
  6. curious to see what you think of the gt50. j got one but returned it for a Samsung e7000. both are great tv's, just the Sammy was more my style. oh and stevo81 pay no attention to my avatar. lol
  7. Curious what you ended up selling these for. Were they II's? Condition? How did you go about selling them. I might be selling something similar. You can pm me if that's better. if you don't mind, this info would help.
  8. I have the 671. No pre outs, so it limits any future additions. If I could go back in time, I would of not gone for it. Just my 2¢.
  9. Thank you Gary. That eq is what I used to change the crossover. Just not sure how much the other tweaks help. I'll see how it goes with the marantz, and try tweaking the Yammy more as well. Also, the magnolia guy asked me if I've tried bi-amping. I've read most people feel this does nothing, especially with klipsch. Opinions?
  10. All I've really adjusted manually, is setting the speakers to small and setting the crossover of the fronts to 80, and the center to 100. Other than the gain, what else can be tweeked. I'm new to all this.
  11. Picked up the marantz today. As long as my wife doesn't kill me, (fingers crossed) I'll report back in a few days.
  12. Seriously thinking of trying out the marantz from magnolia. They have the thirty day policy. If I like it I have to work some serious WAF magic.
  13. My family are the type that always seem to have the TV on, whether watching it or just having it be background sound. After a short amount of time, even with the volume pretty low, I feel like my ears are bothering me. This could all just be mental, considering no one else had this issue. After movies and video games, my ears can be somewhat fatigued, but we do crank them pretty loud, so that's probably more to blame. But, considering the TV viewing is done at lower volumes, it just doesn't make sense that bothers me line it does. it's almost like the sound while TV watching is so bad, it's irritating, mentally and physically. Any opinions on the receivers I mentioned? Will either smooth out the sound, "warm" it up as well? In terms of room set up, I think I've got speakers placed as best as I can within room constraints. I'll post pics when I get to my computer. I've got everything set to small, towers crossed at 80, center at 100.
  14. So about a month ago, I got my first ever set of big boy speakers. I got two RF 82ii and RC 62ii. Running these with a Yammy rxv-671. All I've ever heard about klipsch, is it's "love em or hate em." Guess I'm the weird one, cuz I definitely don't hate em, just not sure I love them. I want to love them, just not sure yet. I'm wondering if my issues are receiver related. I've read a lot about people not being fond of the Yammy, klipsch mix. I've been looking at the marantz sr 6006, and the denon 3312. I know klipsch are known for being "bright" "harsh". I find this to be the case, but only sometimes. So far I really don't enjoy watching most TV programs. Just sounds bad to me. I realize this is probably due to the feed, (using DirecTV hd hr24, I believe) and the fact that these speakers highlight the bad as well as the good in what you're listening to. I enjoy watching movies, but most do have some parts that are a little, tiny bit too much, "harsh". This isn't something that really bothers me cuz most of all the movies I listen to I really enjoy. Music, same deal. Mostly enjoyable with some "harsh" moments time to time. So, with the receivers I'm interested in, will it make me love these speakers. Considering they both are said to have a "warm" sound, (especially marantz) and they are both an upgrade to what I have now, will this make my speakers more fit for me, or am I expecting to much from a receiver. If I hated these speakers, this would be easy, but I don't.
  15. I hope I love em, cuz when they show up, and my wife then find out I bought speakers, I'll probably be sitting at home alone when she takes the kids and walks out the door. At least I'll be able to turn them up so I won't hear her yelling at me and slamming the door. Haha
  16. So I finally decided to man up and I ordered my speakers through Vanns today. Should be here in a week or so. Can't wait!
  17. I hear what ur saying, it's just a big purchase without ever really experiencing what i'm buying. It's like buying a car without driving it first
  18. Yeah, but constantly hearing glass shattering for hours could be too much. Right?
  19. So I just got back from a magnolia store. Got to listen to a couple different speakers. Unfortunately, Klipsch wasn't one of them. I did get to listen to some B&W 683's, and 684's towers along with an HTM 61, and HTM 62 center. They sounded nice, but the most I could afford would be the 683's with the better 62 center. Apparently the 683 is the entry level and the 684 is a step up. Same deal with the centers. Either way, they would be more than I would pay for the RF 82II's and RC 62II's I've been focusing on. I could even get about a $300 dollar sub with the klipsch set up, for the same price I would pay for the 683 and the 62. All this being said, they did sound nice. Nothing overlly aggresive. Smooth. I asked him to put on a speaker that would give me at least an "idea" of the "brightness" factor of the klipsh. He put on both, Martin Logan motion 12, and he also put on a definitive tech, not sure of model, but it was on sale for $3000 for a pair of towers. Both these sets were considerably sharper, "brighter" sounding than the B&W. He told me the klipsch would be even brighter than these. Thing is, I kinda liked the more aggresive, louder sound of the other speakers, but at the same time it did feel very sharp in my ears. I was sampling with Transformers 2, and when there was a crash, and screaming, it was louder more in your face than the B&W's, but it felt like my ear drums were spasming, struggling a little, sort of adjusting to the sharpness. So, my options are, 1. buy the B&W's, but pay more for their "entry level" speakers than I would for "upper-ish" level klipsch, (relatively speaking, and within my means). Since it's magnolia, I have the 30 day return option. 2 If I want to stick with klipsch, I plan on getting them from Vanns, since they have a 15 day plus return policy. Vanns told me they would even be willing to go up to 25 days, and they would offer me the return shipping label, which would save me 50% or more on shipping. Completely guesstimating, they said return shipping would be around $50. Thoughts? Was the magnolia rep correct in his statement that the klipsch are as bright if not brighter than the Martin Logan, or Def tech. The brighter sounds made the action of the movie better, but would I make it through the whole movie like that? Not sure. He was running all the speakers off of a lower end Denon, which he said was somewhat comparable to my Yamaha rxv671. Hope he wasn't BS-ing me, or switching when I wasn't looking. Seemed like an honest guy. <edit> my apologies, had my model numbers mixed up. the 683 and the 61 are the higher end models. My bad. So the best I would be able to afford would be the 684 towers with the 61 center.
  20. Is this saying the 82's are a Malibu? Can't afford a lambo
  21. I hear ya, I've just been at this for several Weeks now and making very little progress. Also patience is not one of my strong points.
  22. From what I've read, you either love klipsch or hate them, no in between. I realize the opinions I get heat are slightly biased, and understandably, i'm just at a loss off what to do. I really don't have an option to hear anything before buying. I can keep searching the internet and read how great they are or how painful they are. I'll still be sitting here with my puny little Yamaha satellite speakers, wondering what i could be missing. Its hard to fight the "f it" temptation and just go for it. I guess if I truly hated them I could sell, but at what loss. I know for sure that my wife will want to kill me. After all my talking and preaching about these speakers, if I don't like em after purchase, and say, "I think i'm gonna try and sell these speakers" she might never speak to me again. Haha. What to do, what to do. I never thought speakers would require this much thought
  23. Did you buy those speakers locally? Somewhere close that might have the ones I'm looking for? With my only option being internet, I'm starting to get worried about buying Klipsch. The word "bright" comes up constantly! If you read enough, it sounds like people are running from rooms, with Klipsch speakers, screaming with their ears bleeding! I know everyone has their opinion, it's just when you have no where to go to truly listen, and possibly have the option to return if you don't like, it's very hard to just order online and go for it. don't want to get stuck with speakers that are painful/unenjoyable for my family and I to use.
  24. So I've been given some good advice by the great members of this forum. I'm currently in the market for the RF 82II's and the RC 62II. Unfortunately there really is nowhere near me where I can listen to them. I can easily buy them online, but then I'm pretty much stuck with them, whether I love them or hate them. I did get to hear the 82's at store which led me to starting the thread called "not quite what I thought" The opinion of several of the responses was that listening to them in a store, where it seemed they were improperly placed and set up, I did not get an honest feel for the speakers. So my advice was to see if anyone on this forum lived near me with this set up that I'm looking for, and would be willing to let me hear them. I live near Livermore, CA which is in the east bay area of northern Cali. About 40 min outside of oakland. don't know if this will work, but it's worth a shot.
  25. Sorry about the multiple posts. Doing this from a phone that went crazy. So, just looked up the return policy at the store I listened to the speakers at, and its pretty crappy. They reserve the right to refuse any return, charge a 20-50% restocking fee! Crazy. Also says they won't except returns on product that they order specifically for you. Considering I would need them to oder My rc 62 cuz all they had was the 52, doesn't do well for me. The challenge continues
