  1. What movie are you watching? I think you are making this waaaaay more difficult than you should. Regardless of what speaker you have, if you are listening at ear bleeding levels, you will get ear fatigue. I tend to listen to music and HT at pretty loud volumes and I cannot ever remember having the thought of "Man my ears are getting tired" or "this is too bright". What I do rememeber on numerous occassions is saying, "WOW! That sounded awesome!". For music, I hear details that most speakers overlook or conceal. I call that accurate, not bright. When I can hear every gun shell bounce off the floor from a firearm that has been fired, I call that precision, not bright. When I can hear the intriquite sliding of a guitarist hand moving from fret to fret, that's revealing, not bright. That's the way I see it anyways. BRAVO!!!
  2. I use the enter button often, why does it smoosh all my text into one paragraph??
  3. Update:~~ I continued to troubleshoot my Sony, read the manual over and over. After hours of tweeking and tuning I realized my right rear surround channel was not working. I still could not get my center to sound right. I gave up and decided to pull the trigger on the Onkyo 709. I went to best buy the next day. They had it on the shelf for $799.. The salesman was very helpful. I mention that I had found this unit online for around $550 and the I was having a hard time justifying spending the extra money just to have it now. He tells me they price match, so we went to the computer and 2 minutes later he tells me he can sell it to me for $550!! It was a done deal and out the door I went, rather quickly too, just in case. haha.. I spent a good amount of time hooking this 709 up. This unit has soo many options, my mind is blown. I am not sure if I will ever learn all the commands and functions. I watch a few moves last night and the sound is amazing. I have never heard my Klipsch sound so good. In fact, the sound is so amazing I found myself staring at the wall just listening during the movies. However,... once I got the system up and running, I still could not get the center (SC-1) to sound good. It still sounded muddy and tinny. After lots of tuning and tweaking I switched the front center with the rear and compared. I discovered that my "tweeter" in the horn was not working.. I removed the "horn" from the other center and plugged it into the bad one to make sure it wasn't the cross-over inside. That one worked. Klipsch customer service is absolutely top notch!! They were quick to help and very informative. $22 + shipping later and one was on order. Now I am anxiously awaiting to get this all working.. All in all, I am extremely happy with the 709. I could not be more appreciative to everyone here who offered advice and help. And amazed at how easy it was to work with Klipsch and get help. Thank you very much!! ~Troy
  4. WOW!!.. Thanks for the responses! ~Excellent prices on those Marrantz.. I'll have to check into that... ~ I have been researching the stand alone units, but at this point in time (still a renter) I feel I will be happy with a nice receiver from this decade.. From there, I feel if I get the right one, upgrades will be easy.. ~So far I believe the Onkyo is the winner.. Too bad best buy has it for $800, if I could find it locally for the $530 they want online, I'd pick it up tonight.
  5. One more question... I know my Klipsch speakers are all rated at 100W. Now, Its not a bad thing to get a 110w per channel or more receiver would it? Its not gonna blow or make the speakers sound bad will it? Oops.. thats two questions.. Thanks!
  6. Well,.. a little update on my problems. I have realized why my set up does not sound balanced. **slaps head** It seems my right surround channel has gone out of my Sony. I have had this receiver repaired about three times over the past ten years.. It's time to say good buy and mover her into the garage for some 2 channel duties. NOW>>> I have looked into the Onkyo that was recommended, it looks great. Does anyone have any other favorite options for an all in one receiver for HT to power my Klipsch? If I get no responses this evening, it looks like I will be ordering that Onkyo. Thank you for all the help!
  7. Thanks for the advice cornfedksboy! I made a mistake typing up the first post. My Fronts are Klipsch SF2 ( http://www.klipsch.com/sf-2-floorstanding-speaker ). I will look into "Audyssey Calibration".. I have no clue what that is. I will steer clear of Sony for HT, thanks again for the insight.
  8. Thanks Pete! I have been feeling the same way about trying to get into the Sony and adjust things. For example, I usually have to turn the DB settings on the Center up by two or three compared to the fronts. I even removed the SC.5 rear center and placed it up front to see what it sounds like. It sounds okay, but just sounds solo, like it does not match up with the rest of the sound out of the other speakers. This Sony is 100WX6, would I notice the benefit of getting a 125W per channel receiver? Or is the wattage really not the issue? In my little head, more power equals more sound.. But I am sure there is more that goes into it than that. Thanks for the advice... off to find the manual..
  9. Hello all, Well, I have a TON of questions and not sure where to start. Let me start by saying my main goal here is to make my home theater system sound better.. Easy right?.... not so much. I am debating on how to properly go about this while keeping my current set of speakers. I purchased the entire system piece by piece while in Guam in 2001. I mainly use the systems for movies & video games, with the occasional music jam session.. What I currently have in speakers: SF2 Fronts, SS1 Rears, SC1 Front Center, SC.5 Rear Center, KSW12 for the Sub. I do not want to, nor do I have the money to replace the speakers. Now onto the hard part with a budget of roughly $700. I am currently using a Sony STR-DE1075 ( http://www.crutchfield.com/S-8FRn1yYB1WC/p_158STR1075/Sony-STR-DE1075.html?tab=other_items#details-tab ) The receiver works perfectly, yet I feel I need more of something. My center channel seems to be quieter and not really sounding good. I just can get all speakers to sound perfect and balanced. I have tried to adjust the KHZ settings on each channel but I do not have the slightest clue what the adjustments actually do. I can get more details on the ranges if anyone wants it. SOOO..... I figure I should get into this decade and upgrade my receiver to start with in order to get HDMI connections and all the good stuff my receiver is lacking. Can someone give me some advice on which route I should take for a new receiver? Which brands sound best matched with Klipsch speakers? Also, Best Buy has a few Sony 3600ES receivers for only $450 (MSRP $1100) Anyone have experience with this particular model? Any and all input/advice is greatly appreciated. I am sure I have left out many important details, so please ask... I'm a newbie here... Thanks so much in advance.. ~Troy
