The clip is so you can clip the cord onto your shirt so it dosen't get in the way and the metal piece could be a earbud cleaner not sure. As for the remote maybe update your ipod to the newest version and if that dosen't work maybe consider a replacement

Just got a new pair of Image S4i's and managed to drop them into some soup, soon as it dropped it i pulled it out but will the drivers get affected and will it cause damage to the earphones? Also after i took them out i got a fuzzy distorted noise for a few seconds.
