  1. I appreciate that. For living room music listening, my sub was required before, but now I consider it optional.
  2. Dear Klipschters, Thank you for the wonderful advice. After obtaining a pair of stock, pristine 1989 Black LaScalas, I set to work to add some improvements over the winter. My goal was to make them "do it ALL", by bringing more bass into play, and to update the tweeters and crossovers. After extensive reading here, and elsewhere, I have completed this plan with the best of what I read: Added short legs so the speakers were off the floor. Crites 4500 crossovers with Crites tweeters. Rubber undercoated the squakers outside surface, and re-installed them with felt gaskets I fabricated, to the motorboard. Changed out the gaskets under the drivers with those from Crites. Performed the cutting to open up the upper section, and enclose it as part of the bass bin. (the "stealth" approach, using the 4x7 tubes recommended) And for the final change, I stabilized the resonant sidewalls with a different approach, after reading about the Volti style stabilizers and such. I utilized a horizontal brass tube, tied (tightened) to the front edges of the sidewalls, crossing at the midpoint, to stop the vibration where the most movement is. Though I do not have measuring equipment, I do have a good ear, and my "bass test" songs lost some undertones I was hearing, after this last change. An Astron 28 volt power supply to a Virtue 1.2 amp makes it happen from there. I too am "hearing" my music collection for the first time now.
