  1. Thanks. I thought too that sensitivity sounded more plausable, but for some reason it stuck in my head that the post was referring to impedance.
  2. Thanks for the link! Lots of great info in there.
  3. I've read someplace that Cornwall model that had midrange (or was it high freq) horn mounted vertically is the best. Why is that? Wouldn't this increase floor/ceiling bounce. Thanks Serge
  4. There was a post few years back that stated that placing Forte’s in corners had effect similar to raising their woofers’ impedance. I am unable to find that post. Does this sound familiar to anyone. If so, please help locating that info. Thanks Serge
  5. Thanks guys! I decided to go with this from monoprice: 12AWG Enhanced Loud Oxygen-Free Copper Speaker Wire Cable Monoprice has good reviews and their product selection is less confusing. Serge
  6. Hello. I am repositioning my speakers and need longer wire runs. http://www.parts-express.com/cat/speaker-wire/1894 has 4 categories: 1) Hi-Fi Speaker Wire, 2) Zip Cord, 3) Jacketed Speaker Cable, and 4) Flat Speaker Wire. In what circumstances any one of these types may be prefered over the others. Thanks, Serge
  7. Thanks mustang guy. I'm gonna pass on those. I did more research and it does look like one can get altec model 19 for this price.
  8. Thanks Dave. Prices have been getting out of hand in Buffalo for the past year for some reason. There's a Forte listed now for $850 and I saw few other Heritage speakers, mostly Heresy, priced very high. Maybe the secret is out. Are the Altecs any good? Which Klipsch Heritage speaker would they compare to?
  9. Hi, http://buffalo.craigslist.org/ele/3945460820.html - Altec Lansing Model 15 for the 2nd system? Like the fact that they are not too big... Thanks
  10. Congrats Russ. Glad they are not lost to this forum and looking forward to your impressions. Serge
  11. Thanks Stacy. That guy was not Klipsch expert, but he probably did me a favour. I have neighbors with a 1 yo kid on the other side of my paper thin wall and K-Horns could've been too much for them. "Neighbors having a baby changes everything". Besides, there were several other people who really wanted them and unlike me had no doubts. Those K-Horns should in all fairness belong to them. For now I'm gonna concentrate on modding and getting the best out of my fortes which I already like very much. Serge
  12. Davis, I didn't know they were on ebay until someone posted a link to it above(they since removed it). Ebay add indicated the seller as hionfi so I looked it up and it ended up being a hifi shop specializing in vintage electronics, so I called the number on their webpage instead of the one on Craiglist and got the owner on the first try. Seemed like a nice guy. I could've just bought them right there and they would've delivered, but I asked his opinion and he thought they were too big for my room. Serge
  13. For some reason I am unable to post replies if I include a quote. Sorry if anyone got multiple replies from me. Serge
  14. Larry, I replied, but cannot find it so will post again. I have 40 yo wood frame townhouse, so will reverberate quite a bit. No plans on moving so I passed on this amazing deal. I need to crank up my Forte's to hear any bass and was afraid that with K-horns it will be the same situation. Lets face it Forte is better suited for small rooms. But, I plan on sulking for coupla days anyway...
  15. Russ, wasn't me. Part of me is kicking myself for this, but I realize that in my room I wouldn't have gotten all that K-Horns can offer anyway, so decided not to be greedy. So, who has them?
  16. Thank you Dennie, Russ, and juniper8. I am still deciding. I asked the owner of the shop HionFi that is selling them and he, being financially interested to sell, still told me that I should pass as my room is too small. I live in townhouse and the only wall I could use is 11' wall I share with my neighbors which means woofers will be firing directly at them. Still may go for it. Have one full day to agonize over a decision....
  17. Found these K-Horns about 2 hrs away: http://syracuse.craigslist.org/ele/3792973919.html Does the age matter if they are in mint condition like that? I know original xovers may need to be refreshed, but are there differences between these and later models that would make the former less appealing. I am generally satisfied with my Forte II's and my room is small: 11.5’x14.5’, but....you know. Please chime in. Thanks, Serge
  18. Thanks Speakerfritz. According to the adds both amps were rebuilt and can be demoed with his Heresy's. I decided to hold off though as the price is higher than what I'm willing to part with.
  19. Hi, I'd like to try some vintage tube amps to drive Forte II's(currently driven by cheap 40 yo Sony TA-1130). I like warm and non-fatiguing Sony, but curious if any improvements can be made with tubes. I am a total noob to tubes. I spotted these 2 local ads and would appreciate any opinions on price, SQ, speaker match, red flags, and anything you may think of. http://buffalo.craigslist.org/ele/3561436946.html http://buffalo.craigslist.org/ele/3570950486.html Before I spotted those I'd been considering ordering Dyna ST-35 from one of the rebuilder sites. Thanks, Serge
  20. Thanks Maron. The volume was barely up to my normal (low to mid volume) listening level. Not only that, if I recall correctly, both high and low filters on my amp were on. ... The sound was mid to high pitched... Didn't sound like a woofer sound. Any way to check if damage occured?
  21. Hi, Today I was trying different sources through a pair of my new Forte II’s and a vintage Sony TA-1130 integrated I picked up on Craigslist. After connecting digital TV box (tuned to the title channel playing ads) and turning the volume up it made a deafening crackling sound. Could that had damaged the drivers? How does one check for damage and that every driver is playing? I played Music Choice and CD’s later on no problem, but could not crank it up to check thoroughly bc of neighbours. Being new to audiophilia am I making too big of a deal out of this? Thanks Serge
  22. I think I'm gonna forget about upgrading and just enjoy my new Forte II's... when I get an amp that is...
  23. http://syracuse.craigslist.org/ele/3055552189.html No affiliation...
  24. I picked up a pair of Forte II's in good condition few days ago for $450 not far from where this seller is. Now I am wondering if Cornwalls would've been a better choice. What do you guys think? Is this too much? Looks like they are in pristine condition. http://rochester.craigslist.org/ele/3060553925.html This guy is also selling the original components: http://rochester.craigslist.org/ele/3061400968.html http://rochester.craigslist.org/ele/3060634869.html
  25. Thanks speakerfritz. I've read that pro sub can go deeper than it's official rating, especially in home setting. What about the SQ for the same frquency range compared to horn bins.
