  1. Doesn't sound quite right. Corner placement does take advantage of boundary reinforcement and effectively increases sensitivity in the lowest octaves quite a bit. To change the impedance would require loading the woofer like a horn does, and I don't think that the speaker operating in 1/8 space i.e. corner placement is nearly enough to do that.

Thanks.  I thought too that sensitivity sounded more plausable,  but for some reason it stuck in my head that the post was referring to impedance.

  2. There was a post few years back that stated that placing Forte’s in corners had effect similar to raising their woofers’ impedance.  I am unable to find that post.  Does this sound familiar to anyone.  If so, please help locating that info.  Thanks

  3. Those were listed on Ebay and didn't sell for the $950 he was asking. IN NEW CONDITION ALTEC LANSING SUPER MODEL 15 STELLAR PERFORMANCE

I couldn't say if they are as spectacular as they say, but they are two way bass reflex. I don't think there is a heritage that is a two way. They are all three way unless I am forgetting something. I'd venture to say these are probably closest to a Forte or Cornwall. If you are patient, you will find some heritage speakers. It seems like they are scarce one day, and falling out of trees the next. $1,000 seems high to me.

Thanks mustang guy. I'm gonna pass on those. I did more research and it does look like one can get altec model 19 for this price.

  4. Thanks Stacy. That guy was not Klipsch expert, but he probably did me a favour. I have neighbors with a 1 yo kid on the other side of my paper thin wall and K-Horns could've been too much for them. "Neighbors having a baby changes everything". Besides, there were several other people who really wanted them and unlike me had no doubts. Those K-Horns should in all fairness belong to them. For now I'm gonna concentrate on modding and getting the best out of my fortes which I already like very much. Serge

  5. Davis, I didn't know they were on ebay until someone posted a link to it above(they since removed it). Ebay add indicated the seller as hionfi so I looked it up and it ended up being a hifi shop specializing in vintage electronics, so I called the number on their webpage instead of the one on Craiglist and got the owner on the first try. Seemed like a nice guy. I could've just bought them right there and they would've delivered, but I asked his opinion and he thought they were too big for my room.

  6. Larry, I replied, but cannot find it so

will post again. I have 40 yo wood frame townhouse, so will reverberate

quite a bit. No plans on moving so I passed on this amazing deal.

I need to crank up my Forte's to hear any bass and was afraid that with K-horns

it will be the same situation. Lets face it Forte is better suited for

small rooms. But, I plan on sulking for coupla days anyway...

  7. Thank you Dennie, Russ, and juniper8. I am still deciding. I asked the owner of the shop HionFi that is selling them and he, being financially interested to sell, still told me that I should pass as my room is too small. I live in townhouse and the only wall I could use is 11' wall I share with my neighbors which means woofers will be firing directly at them. Still may go for it. Have one full day to agonize over a decision....

  8. Found these K-Horns about 2 hrs away: http://syracuse.craigslist.org/ele/3792973919.html

Does the age matter if they are in mint condition like that? I know original xovers may need to be refreshed, but are there differences between these and later models that would make the former less appealing. I am generally satisfied with my Forte II's and my room is small: 11.5’x14.5’, but....you know. Please chime in.

    Thanks,

    Serge

  9. Hi,

I'd like to try some vintage tube amps to drive Forte II's(currently driven by cheap 40 yo Sony TA-1130). I like warm and non-fatiguing Sony, but curious if any improvements can be made with tubes. I am a total noob to tubes. I spotted these 2 local ads and would appreciate any opinions on price, SQ, speaker match, red flags, and anything you may think of.

Before I spotted those I'd been considering ordering Dyna ST-35 from one of the rebuilder sites.

    Thanks,

  10. Hi,

Today I was trying different sources through a pair of my new Forte
II’s and a vintage Sony TA-1130 integrated I picked up on Craigslist. After connecting digital TV box (tuned to
the title channel playing ads) and turning the volume up it made a
deafening crackling sound. Could that had damaged the drivers? How does one check
for damage and that every driver is playing? I played Music Choice and CD’s later on no problem, but could not crank it up to check thoroughly bc of neighbours. Being new to audiophilia am I making too big
of a deal out of this? Thanks

    Serge

  11. I
picked up a pair of Forte II's in good condition few days ago for $450 not far from where
this seller is. Now I am wondering if Cornwalls would've been a better
choice. What do you guys think? Is this too much? Looks like they are in
    pristine condition.
