  1. dtel Thanx for the pics. I live in Oklahoma I could make the trip most any weekend. I have lots of friends living in little rock. sometime when I visit them, I should swing around to Hope. do they have tours all year. or just at certian times.

  2. "Godzilla"

With a purposeful grimace and a terrible sound
He pulls the spitting high tension wires down

Helpless people on a subway train
Scream bug-eyed as he looks in on them

He picks up a bus and he throws it back down
As he wades through the buildings toward the center of town

Oh no, they say he's got to go go go Godzilla
Oh no, there goes Tokyo go go Godzilla

  3. Many moons ago I used to do live sound. We would go to bars, dance clubs, resturants, even parking lots. Some venues had the worst power ever. Sometimes we had to run the 15,000 watt + P.A. off a couple of extension cords (how scary is that). Using a cheater plug, (although it works) is not a good idea. leaving your amps un-grounded is not the way they were designed to work. Finding the source is the best way. By chance do you have cable or satellite tv. Try un-pluging it and see if the hum goes away. When I first moved into my house the HT hummed. I narrowed down to Cox cable. I called Cox out and they said they were grounded to the electric company so I called the electric company they said Cox was not grounding properly. So i called my electrician freind and we pounded a 6ft grounding rod and grounded Cox properly. The hum went away. I know sometimes this cant be done. Like in live sound, we had a secret weapon "the Hum Eliminator" Looks like the the 4 cord box you picked out. When I had my HT hum I put the Hum Eliminator on the front right +left and it got rid of the hum but the sound field just collapsed. the imaging was gone. I think as long as you keep secret weapon to just the subs I think you will be ok.
    Good luck, Alain hum3.jpg

  4. Speaking of speaker wire, I got my 2 pair (Monster Series M 1.2s) from ultimate electronics before they closed, My friend Gerry (Salesman) called me and told me, new there were like $150. per cable. he sold two pair for $65. plus i got this nifty brief case that came with it. Everybody knows that speaker cables that come in a brief case sounds better that one that don't. By the way, I did not here any difference. Here is a pic of my old cables working on sounding better sitting in the brief case.

  5. I was going to recommend putting the jumper back in place and running one set of speaker wires. :)

I will do that at some point. thats's the way I ran my KLF20's so speaker wires were allready there .and pluged in to the crown and marantz. When I tried it with the KLF20's the marantz had great high end, and somewhat strained low end. 110 watts is just not enough when you hit a very demanding passage. So I bought the Crown xls1000. Great lows not so great hi end. So I took the best of both.

  7. Are you running the stock Klipsch crossovers in this configuration?

Yes, there stock. I read the thread with Youthman and DeanG and it sounds very tempting. but I need to just let it ride for a while. :)

I'm going to try to figure out the signature thing next.

    Alain

  8. Thanks
reference_head, eaux, USNRET, beeker, Kman, I will enjoy them for a long time to come.
    Tasdom,
Back in 1976 I heard a set of K-horns at Imperial sounds in Tulsa Oklahoma. And i never forgot. I ended up with the Macintosh C-28 preamp and the Crown DC300A That was demoed at the same time. and used that setup with my KLF 20 for 10 or so years. I had to let Mac pre go when I got into home theater about 5 years ago. Thats my history with Klipsch.
    derrickdj1,
Thats the SVS PB 12NSD That you guy's helped me get last year. (which I love.) If you mean the gear list at the end of each post. Yes I will do that soon.
    Schu,
If you mean because everything is not exactly in the center. Due to space that is just the way it has to be. It's kind of like listining to a bootleg your ear just gets toned to it. If it's a good movie and good sound next thing you know its peripheral to peripheral and time flys away.

  9. Ricktate,

RS 41's I need better. but that will have to wait. Its beanie weenies for a while. but its a good sacrifice.

    Totalcomfort,

the system is bi-amped. Marantz 6005 for the topend (110 watts) Crown XLS1000 for the bottom (215 watts). Plenty of power. I still can't get over how clean the sound is. It's like there's space between the sounds.

I'm going to dinner and will rent a redbox on the way home.

  10. Hey to all,
Well It has happend I pulled the trigger and my new RF7ii's came tuesday. I got such a great deal from Mike at Acoustic Sound Design. He made this happen. I could not have aforded these without his help. (great deal)
Now I know why you guy's rave about them. Don't get me wrong my KLF20's were no slouch. I have had many people over to watch movies and most say It's the best home theater they have ever heard. Wait till they hear my RF7ii. It's a whole new level. 0db effortlessly, and so clean. Now I have so many movies to re-watch.
Here is a picture of my home theater.

  11. HI again,
Back in collage (Okmulgee Oklahoma OSU Tech.) I had a friend. that worked in a theater and they had a set of Altec A4's Voice of the theater. We got to hook up an 8track player after hours. and they rocked. What amp the used I don't know. here is what I rember behind the screen.

    altec A4

After collage, I did some live sound hear and there. We also had Altec A4's or thats what I seem to remmber. But looking for these pictures (which are not mine. I got them off e-bay). I found what I rember. and they called them A5's.

    altec A5 01

WE could get 2 of them in the back of a van and all the rest gear. We use 2 Crown DC300 A (one on ether side). And I'm Still a Crown fan to this day.

  12. thanx for the reply Youthman, I think 600 sounds about right. how did you search the whole us on craigslist. Im not going to sell fast. mabey I will sell the 20's and the 7 together when I have saved a little so I can get the proper center for the rf7iis. I just want to do it right the first time. I will keep my eye out for used in the garage sale forum.

Moray thanx for your reply I will consider what you said. Where do I find these caps and diaphragms? Will I have a better speaker than the rf7ii when i am done? Will I hurt resale after? Are there plans to download somewhere? Surgery would have to be done in my living room, I live in a town house. If the mod does not cost too much mabey I will Keep both.

    see you guys later Alain

  13. Well, It's been a long time since I have posted. but that Doesn't mean I have not been here. I just prefere to watch from a distance. last year i bought an svs pb12nsd sub that you guys suggested, which fit like a glove. I have had one solid year of a killer home theater experience. and thanx too all that helped me decide.

I have a chance to buy a pair of rf7ii and i think i will pull the trigger. now for the real question. I have 2 klf20 that i might sell. What is a good going price, or what would the propper center channel be and is it a good trade (klfs20 for propper center channel) new? used$ thats where I need Help. I will have to do a little bit at a time. I will be broke after I buy the rf7ii. Oh I forget to say I have clf c7 so I won't slumming too bad.

    Thanx. again, Alain

  14. Hi,

I have 2 KLF 20's powered a Marantz Sr 6005 as a pre/pro. I used to use 2 Crown DC300a for the front lower half (bi-amped) and the marantz for the upper half. But now I swapped them out for 2 Crown XLS 1000's. I went from 300 watts/ to 700 watts/. And with the addition of the SVS PB 12 NSD Sub. I know It's a bit overkill but It's so clean and the amps never get pushed hard. as you can tell i'm a Crown man and have been since the first time i heard a pair of Khorns at Imperial sound in tulsa back in 1976. The 2 DC 300a's I have had since the mid "80's" I will never sell them. And color (for you printers) PMS 302. [:)]

  15. I did it.

As you can see I sent the sub to my work.
Everybody at work including me said "Its so big" so when I took the
picture I wanted to give it some scale so I left the the pallete jack
under the skid. Yes it came on a skid. I got it home, hooked it up ran
audissey then called Ed at SVS and he went through the set-up with me.
I'm glad he was there to help. Having never set one of these up, there
were lots of presets in the marantz I never touched before. It sounded
very good.not quite as "in your face" as i was hopeing for, but I think
thats why most of you guy's have 2 subs. But what it did was make the
klf 20 sound so clean. we set the crossover at 40 and then the sub takes
over. It goes a lot lower than the klf20's. Im very happy. I played the
end of the bluray Skyfall at 0db. The sceen where the old orphange
blows up and wow, It sounded like the theater. it was so dynamic, my
nieghbor came over to see if something had happend. so I replayed for
him.He was blown away. I could not be any happer. Now i need to replay
everything so I can rediscover all the cool low stuff that i have been
missing. Thanx for monoprice I will get my cables from them. I will
also get cables for my DVD audio player. Ill bet some of those discs
sound real good too "so much to listen to, and so little time". I think
this is where i will keep sub. in time i will move it around to see if
it sounds better or different in other places, but I think this is the
    spot. here is the Pic

  16. Hi,

How do I post a picture? I see the icon with the tree on it, I click on it up comes a box with options and it will not let me cut and paste a picture. I go to help up at the top where you sign in and it sends me to this page that has nothing to do with klipsch. I don't understand. do i need to compose all of this in notepad or word and cut and paste the whole thing?

    Very confused,

    Alain
