  1. My previous set of 4.1's emitted a slight but annoying buzz from my front left channel... I was told to return the unit to the retailer. It seems like this is not an uncommon problem with the 4.1's... if you do a search for threads regarding issues of this kind you'll find several. I've had the new unit for over a year without a similar problem.... sorry if the news is discouraging. Come to think of it.... I was lucky enough to have purchased the 3-year service plan from Best Buy.... If any of you unwarrantied types live near western Massachusetts, maybe I can help you out. If I suddenly developed a buzzing noise, I believe I'd be able to upgrade to the 5.1's, since they don't sell the 4.1's anymore....
  2. Money aside, would you say it is better to have a 4.1 plus a 2.1 system or to convert to the 5.1's.... what provides the best results in terms of quality? Also, where's a good place to buy the fortissimo soundcard?
  3. Turns out that it was software related.... some files that weren't deleted from the old version of WinDVD were interfering with the newer version.... who knows why or how... thanks for the help.
  4. I am having trouble with my movies freezing during playback... both when using powerdvd as well as win dvd. The only thing that I have did recently was uninstall an old version of Win DVD and installed a newer version (4.0).. Any thoughts on where I should look for a solution? Thanks
  5. I get the same buzz when using DTS and Dolby Digital. I'm not sure what it is, or why it's their. I don't want to have to use a different program. Are there any that are better?
  6. I've just started using PowerDVD 4.0-- which provides better sound than WinDVD. However, I am getting a buzzing sound when playing DVD's. Buzzing in all four speakers. The buzzing does not ocurr when using any other application. Is there something wrong with the settings? It can be very annoying, at times. I have a Soundblaster Live!5.1 Value sound card. Thanks
  7. Justin, Thanks again. I bought them at Best Buy for $279.00. While I have your attention. Is there a way to adjust the rear speaker volume to increase the sound when in movie mode? I realize the rear sound is supposed to be quieter than the front, but with my room dimensions it makes the sound fairly mute. John
  8. Justin, Thought you'd be the one replying. I've had them for two or three weeks, but the sound began soon as I plugged them in. I can probably take them back but would rather not if I can solve the problem myself.
  9. I've been endeavoring to read the postings that suggest similar problems, but can't find an answer that solves whatever is affecting my sytem. I have a buzzing/static sound that is always produced from the front right satellite regardless of which particular speaker I plug into that line. The sound distortion can be disturbed by fiddling with the surround control on the control pod-- sometimes it bursts with noise, sometimes it dies down. The sound is unaffected by the volume and it doesn't seem to matter if I am playing cd's or dvd's or nothing at all. Any speaker wire that is plugged into the "rear-right" connection on the subwoofer makes static out of the satellite it's attached to. The "rear-right" connection produces sound for the "front-right" speaker, oddly. This is verified when I run the speaker diagnostic and it runs through the "front-right, front-left" routine. So it's not the control pod, it's not the speaker wire, but what it is I'm not sure. This is a new system and the static has been there in varying degrees from day one. Any thoughts?
