  1. Just saw you were using a zoom. I would suggest you keep in the middle range of the zoom. Either extreme focal length will usually give you some issues with the pictures that you can avoid by staying in the middle.

If you can get some reflectors, that will give you some additional "lighting" in shaded areas, plus you don't have to drag a strobe around.

The stair shot is perfect as well as the Charlies Angle shot. I would also try a group shot with you above. If they have a ladder available, that works perfect as does a raised deck.

  2. I was brought into the profession by my ex. She could compose a great shot, but had no desire to learn the craft. Therefore, by default I was forced to learn in order to protect my investment so to speak.

I have always appreciated your pics as it is obvious you also can compose a great pic and understand the technical side as well. It is sad that today anyone with a DSLR thinks they can be a photographer. Much more to it than point and shoot and let the computer do the rest...

That 50mm 1.8 is exactly the lens I was talking about. Really a fantastic lens for the money.

  3. Agree with WVUs comments.

If there are other parents taking pictures, you will want to make sure that you are the alpha picture taker and that their eyes and direction should be at you until you are done. That is speaking from experience where everyone's eyes are all over the place. Usually at their parent. I am also a huge fan of candid shots. The side groups will get some of the best and relaxed pictures.

Additionally, using a second light can really take care of the shadows and contrasting side issues. If you really want to have some fun, add a halo light above the subjects. Depending on the camera you are using, I always preferred to use a prime 50 or 85 on my camera for portrait photos. As WVU mention 100 was ideal. For me it was a personal preference. Canon makes a very decent cheap 50 that is not L glass, but takes a really good picture for the money and it is a relatively quick lens.

  4. I have the fatboy 80gb backward compatible PS3.  Great machine.  I used that for Blu-ray and gaming for years.  I agree with Scrappy.  Never had a issue playing any discs.  My dad bought a Sony Blu-ray early on.  I took over 3 discs.  Only 1 played.  He took it back and I went and bought him a PS3.  He is still using it to this day.

  5. Welcome!

I have had Onkyo, Integra and Denon receivers. I have been happy with all of them. Right now, I am partial to the Denon/Marantz lines. For subs there are a lot of options. I have built my own in the past. Currently have a pair of Klipsch. There are several brands that are good.

My advice would be to let everyone know your budget for your receiver and the sub(s) and you will have plenty of excellent advice from the community here and lots of first hand experience. Not sure where you are located, but I know a person close to me is selling an excellent Klipsch sub.

Good luck and enjoy the sickness...

I don't really have a budget. That being said, I'm looking for a relatively cost effective reciever that will supply sufficient power the RF5s

I was hoping to get away without a pre-amp with the 2.1 setup and then will buy an amp when I upgrade to 5.1.

I'm located in Ohio but travel to the Missouri area for business often. Does he have his Kilpsch sub posted somewhere?

There is also a post in the Garage Sale.

  6. What are you going to be using to drive the speakers? I have been kicking around the idea of putting together a system for my step-daughter. Was looking at a potential bookshelf system or some Heresy's. I am thinking I may buy the power first and then search for speakers.

  7. I would also recommend a Harmony. I am on my 5th one. If you are the only one in the house, not sure I would get one, with others in the house, it is necessary to avoid someone completely screwing up your system. I have also eliminated the countless calls/texts asking "how do I...?"

  9. Met with the builder over the weekend.  Shooting for a move in date on 12/1.  Picked up a Emotiva XPA-5 used locally in great shape.  Have 4 Pro-6803-C on the way for Atmos and sold my extra par of KS-525s.  December cannot come soon enough.

Will wall mount a 70" Vizio 4K and looking for media center under the TV that to sit the center on and house the equipment.

  10. I have no idea which model I have.  I can tell you it is either from an Onkyo 3007 or an Integra 20.3.  Let me know if you still want me to throw it in the mail tomorrow.  Maybe someone will know what model it is.

    Thanks.

  11. Congrats on the new residence Chris.

We signed a contract and the framing should start this week.  Unfortunately, the bonus room above the garage was not in the cards nor the budget.  So we will have a family room based system.  Will utilize the Ultra2s, in ceiling speakers for Atmos.  Looking at the CDT 5800 CII for the 4 ceiling speakers.  Wire from Monoprice is delivered tomorrow.  Will wire speakers on the patio and the garage as well as full network.  Looking at the 70" Vizio as an interim Monitor until the 4K specs get settled down a little.

  12. Nismo - I must have missed a setting.  I have the 4100x and did not see where you can select from Dolby Enabled and ceiling speaks.  Did I miss a selection or did it recognize your modules?  I have the cheap Onkyo versions at the moment until I get my house built.  It selected ceiling speakers for my two modules.

Thanks for any help you can provide.
