  1. Tanner...... I would recommend that you have Al build them for you while you work on other issues as I did.  I ordered Al's CSW universal crossovers for my '78 Klipschorns while I had Dave create the new wooden traktrix horns for me.   You will probably love his detailed work and also the ability to adjust the crossovers to suit your listening taste.  I love my Klipschorns more than ever now!

  2. ......................................................   I wonder if anyone could actually pick out a better speaker wire from sound alone (conclusively of course) in a blindfolded A/B comparison?

Max2.... Probably not, specially when you get old like many of us tend to get.  But.... it's the psychological issue that gets us in trouble.  With all the money we spend on having very good cartridges, turntables/arms, preamps, amps, speakers........ do you really want to think that the wire you are using to connect your speakers is in any way limiting the sound quality coming out to your ears... !!

25 years ago when I went from 1000 strand Monster cable to the 2000 strand Monster cable I could swear on repeated testing that there was an audible increase in bass response.......... was there really...?????   But the cost of the cable told me there must be  :-)

So I've switched again to the 14 guage XPHD-CI Monster cable because all the money I've spent on improving my old Khorns, I don't want to have any thought in my mind that the sound I hear could be limited in any way because I didn't spend eighty bucks and some time to re-wire.

So to the OP ..... Do what your head tells you to do so that you will be satisfied that you didn't leave anything out.

Over and out on this issue !:-)

  3. Just saying that folks around here think wires is wires......

    Shakey

If you mean 12 guage 2000 strand copper, and 20 guage "speaker wire", and 14 guage 500 strand copper twisted pair..... all running 50 feet .... and carrying the quality hi output from our amps that we expect, to our loved Klipsch speakers is no matter, and that their is no signal or frequency losses, etc.... I humbly disagree.

  4. Karson, I installed the AlK Eng CSW (CornScala-Wall) networks in my Khorns recently and love them.  With them I was able to change the attenuation of the new tweeters (DE10 set to -4) and Dave's Frastrac horns (k55v driver to -7) so that the overall sound was set to my liking in the fairly small room that they must be in.   Sure, I could have spent more money, but this turned out to be excellent on my smaller budget.  Also upgraded all the wiring to Monster XPHP-CI..... Not positive that the wiring made any difference, but I sure believe it did.

  5. Worried about the fabric, not about the back of the badge that I can't see anyway....

And no, I'm not OCD, just a perfectionist, that's all....

Years back I had a professional fabric upholsterer remove the dumb tags that were on the visors of my Mustang Cobra...... he steamed them off and then surprisingly he used plain old "lighter" fluid to remove the glue from the fabric.  I now even use lighter fluid to clean vinyl records..... Test it on something first, but once the tags on the visors were removed and glue cleaned off, you couldn't tell they were ever there.

I will have the same issue with my Klipschorns when I put in the new horns from Dave.  I'm glad this thread came about, I was worried on how to remove the tags and put them on the new grill fronts.  Cleaning up the glue is the easy part.

  6. The person who made the recommendation didn't tell you?

The K-77-M has better frequency response (goes out further). I also believe it's capable of taking a little bit more power.

Thanks DeanG..... Before I make a decision to purchase, I prefer to get more than one opinion. Now I have two :-) Are you basing your answer on experience with the newer tweeter?

I have a pair of K-77 M's that were babied in a Heresy. $99 shipped to you.

ClaudeJ1..... Can we exchange emails on this forum? If not is there a setup for private email. And could you send me pictures of front and rear of tweeters. Thanks, Ron

  8. I am going to be updating my '79 Klipschorns with a new crossover and Fastrac K horn. It was recommended that I also change the original K77 tweeter to the newer K77M. Please give me an idea what the difference and advantages I would have with the K77M.
