So I thought I'd post a follow up on this. Although I haven't made any progress on the receiver I decided to try my hand at fleabay and vary least I get a parts unit. Well the turns out my new acquired r-1000 is steps beyond mine. The wood grain cover was certainly more beat up, but most the lights work and the sound, oh man it's like I fell in love all over again with the r-1000 and the corns. Now I can take my time with my original, both need to get a heatsink setup.

So looking a bit more, opened things up, got about or at least half dozen caps that are old, partied to hard and now throwing up green. Apparently it has some indicator lights that I have never seen work in 15 years, some LED, 3 are tiny little filament bulbs, which are so tiny i can't see if the filament is broke or not, but not to worried about the lights. Any suggestions for suppliers for small quantity or individual caps (or should say electronic supplier)? I was also able to locate the speaker relay, popped the cap, no corrosion at least, and found IC-412.

Thanks for the heads up, more digging to do! Sounds like you know quite a bit on the subject, are these "mods" you speak of something that can be done with more or less a soldering iron, got no scopes or anything to test w/?

Thanks for the welcome, although I did have an account in 2011 that seemed to be invalid now, posted few mostly always lurking. Thats nice in the pic, been keeping an on on that one little worse for wear here. Tell me more about this relay, where can they be sourced? If cheap i'd just do it anyway. Except for the station memory no longer worker (which I can't seemed to find a replacement cap/bat for) everything functions but sure aging. Along with the Corns I have the WF line for my home theater setup which I actually really like as well. I've have seen it something mentioned about balancing the rails on a receiver, whats that about? I've been messing with rope caulk on the Corns, have a new set of binding posts to install yet. So I have an older (1980) Yamaha R-1000 receiver that I really like paired with a set 74 vintage vert Cornwall's with recent cap and tweeter upgrades thanks to BEC. My issue is the receiver needs some TLC, it on occasion will have some crackle or just drop a channel. The thing is it pushes those Corn's so nice and it has sentimental value, I'd like the breathe new life into it but I'm finding rather difficult to find anywhere to work with or even responds back to me, can anyone help guide me or make recommendations on this? Tried looking at used units but none seemed to be refreshed and I fear being shortly in the same boat again. Oh I have tried the simple things like deoxit and have even replaced the volume pot that went south. Thanks for your time.
