They were dead from the instant I plugged them in, I didn't even get to enjoy them for a couple of days. I noticed a VERY loud/annoying hiss and crackle as soon as I plugged the set in. Then once I started to play the music, there was extreme distortion and crackling even at moderate volumes. The last straw was when I touched the amp area of the subwoofer, and burnt myself it was so hot. After reading the posts on this forum, it appears to be a pretty standard case of dead 4.1s.
And yes, I will be calling Klipsch as soon as they get back from the holidays to verify that they are in fact dead. But it looks fairly clear, based on posts in this forum. In the meanwhile, I'm having a great Christmas. <sarcasm>
Probably the weirdest thing of all, whenever the speakers are plugged in, they totally screw up the recpeption on the TV that is in another room, 50 feet away.
Additional info: Ordered from Outpost.com. Tried using a CD player as source, same result. Checked connections repeatedly, which is when I first noticed the extreme heat, burnt myself while checking connections on back of sub. Changing the volume levels in various locations don't change the horrible sound or hiss/buzz/crackle.
