  1. I see what you describe, mostly the breadboard around one trace of the resistor looks "charred", but when I looked closely at the resistor and an identical one elsewhere on the components, it looks a little odd. I tried my best yesterday to wrangle a free repair out of the managers, to no avail. (My set is LESS than two years old, Jan 2002). Their favorite phrase is "It's out of warranty... you're screwed and we don't care". The chances of me ever buying Klipsch again are now a big ZERO. I'm trying to decide if I should even bother with repairing, it may be a better investment to put that money towards another set. Perhaps I can find a company willing to stand behind their product for more than 12 months.
  2. This is eerie. My 4.1 ProMedias just died last night, exactly like yours... LED just went out. My set is under two years old, but I was told it's out of warranty by the tech and RMA departments. So I popped it open to check the fuse. After I read your post, I looked at the resistors. Coincidentally (or not), resistor 12 on the daughterboard with the "Bash" component is in fact fried. Now personally, I don't feel like paying Klipsch $50 + shipping fees to fix a fried resistor. Anyone with electrical experience know if it will be as simple as replacing this resistor? Thanks, NCatron
  3. Just got my new set of ProMedia 4.1 speakers. They work beautifully. The really odd thing is that they apparently listen to what we're saying on the message board. I got the set of speakers, and on the outside box is a sticker that indicated that they were shipped to Outpost from Klipsch. This seemed odd, until I opened the box, and found that they had already been opened. Judging by the pieces that had been opened, it appears that the speakers were removed and tested before being shipped. Now I've been listening to music for a while, and the sub is only mildly warm to the touch. Thumbs up to Klipsch, and thanks for the good customer support.
  4. As far as Outpost is concerned, they were very cool about it when I got a bad set of 4.1s from them. I called them up and told them that they were bad, and right then and there on the phone, they sent me a new set of 4.1s with free second-day shipping. So you don't have to be too worried about getting a bad set from them, as they seem to be very good about replacing bad products.
  5. zepline - I hate you. -Ariakan (#ow)
  6. Helpful hint... Trolls never leave or stop. Might as well ignore them, makes them much less annoying in the long run.
  7. Welp, the speakers just left the door to be shipped back to Outpost.com. They're being pretty nice about it, they're shipping me a new set with free second-day shipping... and they're sending it out today. I just pray that this new set is flawless and lasts for years.
  8. Would I have a better chance of getting a *good* set of speakers if I just return the bad set to Outpost and then ordering a set direct from Klipsch? Maybe Outpost has a big batch of bad sets sitting in their warehouse or something, I dunno. The thing that really burns me is that it was dead upon arrival... Don't they use any QA at all? Test 'em before you ship 'em. Sheesh.
  9. They were dead from the instant I plugged them in, I didn't even get to enjoy them for a couple of days. I noticed a VERY loud/annoying hiss and crackle as soon as I plugged the set in. Then once I started to play the music, there was extreme distortion and crackling even at moderate volumes. The last straw was when I touched the amp area of the subwoofer, and burnt myself it was so hot. After reading the posts on this forum, it appears to be a pretty standard case of dead 4.1s. And yes, I will be calling Klipsch as soon as they get back from the holidays to verify that they are in fact dead. But it looks fairly clear, based on posts in this forum. In the meanwhile, I'm having a great Christmas. <sarcasm> Probably the weirdest thing of all, whenever the speakers are plugged in, they totally screw up the recpeption on the TV that is in another room, 50 feet away. Additional info: Ordered from Outpost.com. Tried using a CD player as source, same result. Checked connections repeatedly, which is when I first noticed the extreme heat, burnt myself while checking connections on back of sub. Changing the volume levels in various locations don't change the horrible sound or hiss/buzz/crackle.
