Update 1976 LaScala speakers: On the recommendation of my advisor, we put a flashlight up to the grills of the speakers and found that the interior is not painted and they are raw wood. DizRotus . . . is a genius.

Hi jimjimbo, I know I added a number of photos to your original request a couple months ago. Could you please tell me what you mean by better photos? Hi Andy, I know this is exactly the way the speakers were delivered. The builder who built their Music Room took my Dad to High Fidelity Workshop in Royal Oak (we still have the Klipsch pamphlet) and told him he needed these for his new room. My Mom, who antiqued a lot of furniture, wondered how she never ended up painting and inking them like they did 40 years ago. I totally understand the filler as you mention, but the areas I was talking about appear to be part of the wood. I know for certain these speakers have never been painted, stained, varnished or even oiled on the exterior. The grills could have been a special order performed at the factory, but know for certain he did not do this after they came home. Thank you for all of your time. Terri

Sadly, we must sell our Dad's 1976 La Scala speakers. He passed away last year and unfortunately none of us have room in our homes. I was on the forum a few months ago, trying to gather any information I could as I knew my Father always said these were the ‘greatest speakers ever’. I want to thank everyone who shared kind words and gave me such helpful information . . . especially DizRotus. What a gentle and caring man you are! I wish my Dad had known you and known about the forum, he would have loved chatting, or bragging, with everyone about their Klipsch speakers. These speakers were delivered to my parents 1,000 square foot ‘Music Room’ in 1976 and have never been moved since. My father loved listening to Sarah Brightman and my mother enjoyed classical. The speakers are raw birch and have never been treated with anything. The speakers are in excellent condition. They have never been abused or misused. Though my Dad might disagree when the speakers played my favorite Cat Stevens music or my sister’s Bon Jovi. There are no dents or dings; however, there are a few little whitish spots on top of one of the speakers. I didn’t want to sand it, as it looks like it’s just part of the wood, but wanted to make mention as it doesn’t come through in the pics. Our hope is to find these speakers a good loving home. We believe everything to be in excellent working order, including the tweeters. Asking $1,800. Location: Milford, Michigan 48381

Hi, it's me again with my dad's 1976 La Scala speakers and NO they haven't been sold. I was sick the last few days and finally made it back to my mom's to get additional pics as requested by some on the forum. Unfortunately, when I tried uploading tonight, they were too large to attach. I will go back Thursday and use a different camera for those who are still interested in viewing. I'm sure my dad is looking down enjoying the discussions on the forum about his Klipsch speakers. I'm sure he's saying to my mom . . . 'See Charlene, I told you these were the best speakers. I never did understand why you wanted small ones?' He'd listen to classical and opera and his favorite artist was Sarah Brightman. I'll be in touch Thursday and thank everyone who has posted kind thoughts about my father. Not only did he have great taste in speakers . . . he was a great man. Which is why it's my job as his daughter to find a loving home for these speakers. He would not want them stored away and not heard. Terri

I would second this notion. These aren't speakers that are going to being outdated with technology. Their sound is simply timeless and this style of speaker is actually coming back into fashion if you care about that sort of thing. Only a few companies out there like Klipsch still make them like this and you happen to have something that even we don't make anymore. You (or your family) may buy speakers from another company down the road that cost $1000 (which may be all you can get for these) and I GUARANTEE these speakers will outperform them 10x over. Of course, I should never tell you what to do with your assets because we have all needed money from time to time. I just wanted to offer up some food for thought. Thank! But it really is not about the money, although it is nice. We are moving my mother to a smaller home and none of us has the room to utilize them. They were in a 1000 sq ft music room and were perfect and enjoyed them for many years and want someone else to do the same. To someone that appreciates the condition and style of finish they are worth $1200 and up IMO. I really wish you were closer to me and I'm sure many here wish the same. Those are pretty unique among the masses of LaScala's out there and the condition for their age is a big, big bargaining chip on your side. If you cant keep these, please don't let some shark beat you up on the price. Thanks for your input. I'm sure there are a few lurking in the ocean!

Looking at the pictures , these are mint - scala speakers that we all look for - these speakers were made out of real plywood with a birch veneer - versus the new ones made with MDF - which is like a particle board but much denser - the components in the speaker are great K55V - K77 round tweeter - AA crossovers - K33 e woofer - and last the mint cabinets - and the option of the full grilles that cost a fortune with badges - the full grilles are worth 200$ each alone -badges are selling for about a 100$ -all of these features are simply the best - so yes - I am in NY but would I had been in your area - I would have paid 2000$ for these mint speakers and unfinished is the ultimum you would want to buy - no questions asked - you have a mint pair - 2000$ is a fair price - a new pair cost upwards of 6000$ - by the way - what kind of amplifier was he using with these speakers and is that for sale as well - He had a Kenwood, I believe. He never let us play the music loud because he was afraid we would blow the speakers. They still sit where they did almost 40 years ago.

We have a pair of La Scala speakers that have been my father's since 1976. He passed away last year and we do not have any idea of their re-sale value. The speakers look as if they just came off the factory floor. Dad always loved these speakers, but unfortunately, no one in the family has the room. They need to go to a special loving home.
