  1. Any true audiophile knows that if you spend enough on the last 6 feet of cable to your equipment it will magically compensate for all of the crap wiring from the outlet back to the nearest electric company transformer. Your questioning of this apparent fact tells us that you have yet to grow a golden ear on the side of your head.

  2. I am skeptical. The inductance and capacitance of speaker wire is measure in micro henrys and pica farads and the value of the inductors and capacitors in crossovers are measured in mili henrys and micro farads (3 orders of magnitude greater). I might conceeded an effect if you bi amp directly into the speakers.

  3. I have never used a solder pot but am familiar with wave soldering machines. What keeps lead oxide from forming on the surface of the solder in the pot? I am looking into rewiring a tonearm with Litz wire (38 gage) and using a soldering iron to tin the ends does not work as well as I would like.

  4. I just picked up one on Agon for $400. It seems to be quite nice. I have a SME III arm on it. The only complaint I have is that the arm board is a funny shape and it takes some time to cut one out. I also have a Teres motor that I plan on hooking up to it just as soon as I get a couple of houses sold. My previous TT was a Sony TTS 3000, that I moided (added lead to the platter rim and built a lead arm board).

  5. I will second D-Man's advice. My wife and I live in two adjacent houses. She has her nice quiet enviroment and I have my sound system. Occationally during the summer, when the windows and doors are open, I get complaints from her to turn down the system.

  6. What are the advantages of longer tonearms beyond the obvious lower tracking error? I have an SME 3009 S3 and it would appear to be fairly easy to mod the arm tube by replacing it with a longer tube. I can buy 12 Titanium tube from McMaster Carr and fashion a new head shell. I am wondering if it is worth the trouble? When I compare effective arm masses, my S3 is only 4.5 grams compared to 12 grams for the S 2 and 14 grams for the 3012 S2.
