C&S. I think my wife is in the place from which you are having troubles importing LP's. Several in the tour group came with lists of local street artists from whom they wished to buy recordings. Any recomendations? I am partial to Mingus/Coltrane and Ligthnin' Hopkins.

I live out here in Silcon Valley, where the temperature is relatively benign. I find that when I am running my 300B, the room temp goes up so that I don't have to fire off the heater to keep warm. Sounds better than my SS/Digital system, too.

For what it is worth, I have 828/515Bs tuned to about 35 Hz, 1005/288s, crossed at 500 Hz.. Driving them at about 95 db in a 16x27 room takes about 3 watts input to a pair of Tripath stereo amps . I see peaks of 6 watts. At this level the amps are about 70% eff.

I don't think I would want to run my tubes in the horizontal position. Might lead to grid sag under high temperature conditions.

Hard to tell how this auction is being conducted. $500 for all is a great buy. You could turn a nice profit on that.

Depending on how much power you need, I have been running Tripath digital amps (http://www.tripath.com/) for every day listening. The ones I use are only 8 watts/side, but plenty to drive my horns. $100 per stereo amp. They are driven off of a simple 12 volt power supply. For cheap they can't be beat.

Tom, you have given away your position as an audiophile. Anyone, with an ounce of intellegence, knows that you cannot get decent speaker cables and interconnects for less than $1000 per foot. How pedestrian of you.

They sure did not design the packaging for Dylan SACD's for us old farts. I have to dig out my stronger glasses to read the things. You would think that they would respect us oldies for our continued support of Dylan.

Craig, What are your thoughts on self biasing amps. I have an Assemblege 300B that is supposed to adjust itself.

I picked up the econo SACD pac of Dylan at Costco today. Blows away the 30 year old vinyl that I have been listening to for years.

On the positive side, I think I have lost a few pounds with the added exercise of changing record sides every 15 minutes.

I have read that it only takes one bad op-amp in the reproduction stream to screw up a finished product. That may be part of the reason that Mallet has such good sound with his digital recordings. He basically is doing direct to disc.

Well, the cartridge is new. I went thru and rechecked all of the arm settings. This arm even has a transverse balance adjustment. The turntable, although 30 years old, seems to be OK. It has a variable speed controller with a strobe synch read out, so that I can set the speed pretty close. I even went out a bought a new Kind of Blue to compare to my SACD version. I still prefer the SACD.

I have 30 year old Sony belt drive TT with a SME 3 arm and blue point cartridge vs a Sony 777ES. I prefer the SACD. I keep reading that the vinyl setup is much better, but that is not my experience.

You can buy sorbothane shets from McMaster-Carr for a lot less money than form HIFi sources.

It basically a digital system that Sony and Phillips developed to archive their analog tapes. SAmple rate at about 2.5 Mhz. It is available as a consumer product.

Most decent powered subs take the pre-out, process it to pull off the low freqs and then send the rest of the signal along to your main amp. There may be some debate about how good the processing is but it works.

You might think of hanging it from the ceiling. Most landlords dont look up. Back when I was on the road renting, I would put in screws at the wall ceiling intersection to hang stuff from. Disappeared from view when the screw is pulled. I would think that you could engineer a cable support system that would be supported from the top corner and be cantilevered out from the wall.

I think I will pass on that option. My wife is not atuned to my tastes in music. she can pick out toys in Burma (Myamar) that I like but not music. On another subject, what is your crossover between your 416(?) and 515B. I have my 515B in an 828 tuned to about 35 Hz and I think it may be too boomy. Looking to put JBL 2245's in them for the bottom end.
