  1. All easy enough for me, and I will. Thanks.
  2. No debate from me. People should do whatever they want/need to do to enjoy their gear. Small update to major mods, whatever floats their boat. I don't know how to solder, and have no desire to learn so that makes it easy for me to espouse not doing anything and enjoying as is. One reason I look for oil caps is because they often are within spec and sound great, and because I don't measure them anyway ignorance is bliss. If the speakers sound good to my ears, then it's all good. "But what about making them sound better?" I've been challenged with? "Better" is in the ears of the listener. I've had speakers that were restored for me with new caps and other sundry things, and I had a pair of Forte's that I got some Crites crossovers which were relatively easy to install since I didn't have to solder. Did they, or the other speakers sound "better"? No. Worse? Yes, on one occasion they did, and I asked the restorer to replace the old caps(which were oil) back. The Fortes? They sounded fine, but where others like the so called veil lifted effect, I don't necessarily. Or, sometimes it just depends on how heavy the veil is. As I indicated, to each their own. LS's now on schedule to arrive around noon tomorrow, so should be able to file my initial thoughts later tomorrow afternoon/evening. Stay tuned.
  3. Thanks for this. I'm hearing more from folks who have been satisfied with their LS w/o subs. I like it.
  4. You folks might’ve seen this but I like Jeff’s take and it gives me more enthusiasm for getting ahold of these https://www.tonepublications.com/old-school/the-klipsch-lascala/
  5. What is it that you like about the original crossover over the ALK? I’m sure I’ll like the original as I really like the original in my ‘77 Cornwalls but I’m interested in hearing your thoughts.
  6. I wouldn't try that with a lot of gear these days, but Heritage Klipsch, like McIntosh, is pretty easy to unload for at least what one pays for them, assuming what they paid is a reasonable amount. Or, as a buddy said to me "You have two full systems set up, why not set up a 3rd? Cooking is overrated😅
  7. Good to hear! I'm back and forth about actually buying these. I want to because I'm very curious after reading so much good, and not so good, things about them, what it takes to make them sound good, etc. I want to compare them with my Cornwalls. But I also have a pair of speakers that I keep referring to(Allison One's) in a addition to my Cornwalls that I was thrilled to find and enjoy very much. Maybe now more then ever when using them with a great tube amp. Frankly, if I hadn't gotten the Cornwall, I would've probably never had bought the MC240. And If I hadn't bought that, I probably wouldn't have bought the MC30's. But I wanted to compare. Which is precisely why I'm getting the LaScala's. I have no idea if I'll like them more or less then the Cornwalls or A1's, but how will I know if I don't try them in my room, with my gear, and my ears? I figure worse case scenario I don't like them, I should be able to move them pretty easily to somebody else.
  8. or those keeping score, the seller did get back to me, admitted he made a mistake and it is the 33 woofer in his LaScala along with the other original drivers and crossover. Serial numbers 11R405 and 406. Wood is a bit in need of some touch up but all in all seems through pics to be in decent shape. Spoke to a local friend who has been an active buyer/seller of vintage gear for many years about subs. He has several options that he can hook me up with if need be and has a lot of experience with Klipsch speakers . His opinion is that while the LaScala is bass shy, the MC240, and once I get them back from restoration the MC30's both provide enough bass grunt that he doesn't believe one will be necessary. He's also very familiar with my room, listening habits, etc. When I was buying my Allison One's, I got several folks advising that I'd need a sub. I listened for awhile before acquiring the aforementioned Electronic Subwoofer and was perfectly satisfied with the bass output. The ESW improved on it some and I enjoy having it in the mix, but could easily be without it. It will be interesting to see how it interacts with the LaScala's. With any luck looks Friday is the day. I'll report back as I know you all are on pins and needles😉
  9. Thanks. I will keep an open mind to a sub(what do you recommend without breaking the bank and not terribly huge?)but I really don't think I'll need one. I'm also going to try out the Allison EQ unit which I linked above that I'm currently using with my Allison One's and we'll see. If I still feel I could do better with a sub, I'll consider it.
  10. Well, for whatever reason I've not heard back from the seller since having a good text convo with him last evening. Kind of typical CL flakiness. In any event, partly out of planning for things to keep moving forward, partly out of boredom, I decided to see how the Cornwall's would look in their permanent home in my second system assuming that either this time, or at some point in the future I do end up with LaScala's. Overall, I'm quite pleased. They sound good, and fit fine even in the smaller space. And this will be the gear that will accompany them, while the main system will consist of MC30's. Those are currently back at Audio Classics, where they were recently purchased from, for repair and updates. Don't get me started. In the meantime, Allison One's being driven by a Mc MC2120 is in the main room. I won't bore you with pictures of that.
  11. WIf I get these, I'm thinking of trying this with it, in lieu of an actual sub, assuming I even feel that it needs more bass. I presently use this with a pair of Allison One's.

  13. I do too. Preliminary agreement in place for them to arrive tomorrow. The only potential issue is that in the seller's listing he indicated that the woofer is a "K-22-E". We'd been texting back and forth and he seems quite knowledgeable but when asked about what I assume is an error he went silent. Doesn't necessarily mean anything as it was late, and he promised more detailed pictures before he brought them, so I'm thinking I'll have it cleared up today. And no, I won't be buying them if there's anything other then a 33 in there. I have no interest in replacing drivers.
  14. According to the LaScala spec sheet attached and measurements of my Cornwall's, Cornies are taller (38-35 1/2), wider(25-24) but LaScala's are deeper(24 3/4-16). So they'll be out in the room a little more, which shouldn't be an issue.
  15. Well against my better judgement probably going to be getting a pair of '77 Lascala's after all.
  16. Thanks. Exactly the advice I'm looking for. Appreciated!
  17. You can see by the picture of my room that zi have corners that would seem to work they would be about 12 feet apart and seating position is about that also. I think ceiling height is about 10 feet but can measure. And no move planned for at least several years. Can we talk price on these threads and if so is that price the going price for these?
  18. What about Khorns? There’s a gorgeous natural birch pair for $4500 not that far from me. Original owner. Forgetting the price for a minute would those work in my space or too big?
  19. It's an excellent point you make. I would of course try the Lascala's before the deal was final. I can tell pretty quickly if I'm going to like them or not. I like accurate bass, not over powering bass, so I don't think it would be a problem. Ultimately, I'd rather trade my Allison One's and move the Cornwall's into a second system where they would be about 10-11 feet apart in dedicated corners. If I love the LaScala's it's also very possible I'd buy them if it was the right price for the right pair, and then figure out what to do with the odd pair out.
  20. I'm very patient. I have a great system as is, so they'll have to be a good pair locally, at either a decent price or the seller willing to trade. But if the right pair shows up, I'm definitely ready to get them based on all the comments posted here.
  21. There's a local guy with a pair that he say's are nice, late 70's I think all original. I actually tried to trade him the Cornwalls and a restored(by Terry DeWick, no less) McIntosh MC2120 and he said it wasn't enough😅 I'm patient, because believe me when I say I'm not suffering with my present set up.
