  2. After prognosticating the weekend would be hot, and then amending the forecast to say... not so hot... it ultimately was quite hot in the PNW for Mother's day. Original mid to upper 80's changed to upper 70's to low 80's. But we ended up in the very upper 80's for both days. The smell of quarantined bbq's reopening was nice. I reopened mine also.

Back to a more normal spring in the next few days. An early blooming spring here so I can save on some water that the lawn already needs. Could be a bad drought year here. The signs already look bleak.

With Pence press secretary, Katie Miller (wife of Trump advisor- Stephen Miller), Trump’s valet, and now Secret Service staff testing positive, the virus has clearly spread into the “inner circle” staff levels of the president and vice-president.  I wonder if we’ll see both Trump and Pence wearing masks and taking more precautions than they have been considering the consequence of both of them acquiring and succumbing to the disease - President Pelosi.

If the virus doesn't make them [political comment removed].

  5. Seattle-ish area is now forecast for the high 70's to low 80's this weekend. Cooler than originally posted. Today is nice and sunny. It's 60 now on it's way to about 70. Then the warm up starts. I'm fortunate to have a big deck in back where I can isolate if need be in the sun. It's been nice to have relatively clear skies at night for the Eta Aquarid shower and that last huge full moon. We usually miss the meteor showers due to overcast conditions. Or at least I do.

I know that means something (I think).  I just don't know what. How do you yell at him to come home for dinner?

isn’t that strange, there have been many times, in the desert when it’s boiling hot, and i got a chill -- just for a second mind you, but a chill when it’s 100+ is weird.

Especially towards the end of 'your' day. If you are starting to tire then a small change in temp can feel drastic. After windsurfing in the Gorge, it may still be 90+ degrees but, even dry, if you're tired you are going to feel a chill more. And age has a bearing on this, also.

  9. Supposed to hit the mid to upper 80's here in the PNW towards the end of the week. That's very warm for here in general and waaay warm for this time of year. I love it. But I'm an expat surfer dude from '70's Ca.  I need the sun. If it's over 60-65 and sunny around here a lot of people go into hiding (which we're already doing!)  Too hot!  After a sunny 50 degree day, we break out the shorts and flip flops. It's kind of weird, really. But after the fall and winter , it doesn't take much to get us excited.

Individual states and medical institutions should be responsible for “stockpiling/providing” PPE and not depend on the federal government. Individuals should take responsibility and have their own masks, provisions, etc in the event of an emergency. You know, kind of like seasoned veterans of hurricanes make sure they have adequate supplies.

Being prepared is one thing. Analogising a new (4 mos? 5 mos?) killer virus to "You know, ... Seasoned veterans of hurricanes.."  is,  imo, false equivalency. If we had many decades and generations to learn to prepare as veterens of hurricanes do, then the individual states or in fact individual citizens can make sure. Most people are only asking for a bit of consistent, sustained guidance through a completely unknown time.  We aren't getting it so slowly some states are acquiring it themselves. It should never have been a pissing contest from either side. But these don't appear to be United States of America, lately.
