  1. Tomorrow afternoon the amps will have been running for the week straight. Already notice some changes for the better. Overall, these are right up there with some of the best amps I've heard for low level late night listening. The noise floor is so low, it's nonexistent. Everything can be clearly heard. Amazing. If anything bothers me, it usually a bite or sibilant vocal. Treble and vocals are getting very smooth. These have wonderful 3D, air, separation, and seemingly limitless power. Very impressive.

  2. Pzannucci - I'm scared to death to rid myself of Class A SS and/or tubes for Class D, Class T(tripath), gain clone, etc. Although the Claa A monos are eating me out of house and home energy wise. I tried a Wyred amp a few years ago and it was nothing I felt the need to keep. But I've been thinking that way again with the many advances over the last few years. I do like the idea of keeping Class D fired up 24/7 and ready to play. I have tried that with Class A for maybe two-three-four days straight and my power bill goes up nearly 20%. And as good as I felt Class A sounded with my KHorns I'm slowing realizing tubes are actually the better fit.

For me, tubes truly satisfy like no other amps. My problem is that I love to have music playing usually 10-12 hours a day. I know, a little excessive but it can be very relaxing and mood enhancing. Obviously I don't always listen critically but I am hoping these amps, the Nord One UP, bridge the gap and tick all the right boxes. Fingers crossed.

  3. Thank you Peter!

Colin (the owner of the company?) has been extremely responsive and even refunded some shipping charges when I ordered a set of cables the next evening. He's going to put them in the amp boxes. I did not expect any refund or any extra compensation but he did it right away. All around, so far, Colin has been a pleasure to deal with. I think I will be a happy camper.

    More to come.....

  4. Thank you Peter.

The world seems smaller now because of the internet and this company came highly recommended to me, so I took a chance.

The conversion rate on the amps I purchased ended up costing me almost $2288.

From amount $2,287.96 USD To amount £1,534.00 GBP Exchange rate: 1 U.S. Dollar = 0.670466 British Pounds

Not inexpensive but way less expensive than other options in the long run and supposedly as good or even better sonically.

I just received an update that they may be shipped Monday. As soon as I get tracking info, I'll know more.

  5. I have seen the Wyred and have experience with Class D amps in the avr.  You need to give us a short review on your impression once you get things dialed in. :)

I am tentatively hoping to see them by the end of next week and I am sure they will need a little break in time as well. I will absolutely let you guys know what I think.

    Add texture?

Not sure I would want to add granularity... perhaps separation of layers was meant?

That was what the blurb on their website. Don't read anything negative into it. I am sure from what I've been told by owners that they are FAR from grainy and actually smooth and slightly sweet. EXACTLY what I am looking for in an amp.

    Stay tuned.....

Here is a link to someone who has the standard op amp and will be posting about a different op amp soon.

  6. I have to be honest. I've had my LS-50 one or two days before I received my Klipsch speakers. I hooked up my Klipsch speakers and never looked back. I don't even remember what the KEF LS-50 sound like. I need to hook them up and revisit the KEF speakers.

The LS50 need a lot more power to sing, so I guess I've been focused on my lower powered amps and enjoying the heck out of my Klipsch speakers. Do I remember the LS50 being a little more "refined"? Yes, probably a little more audiophile in all areas but really what strikes me is how fun, enjoyable and amazing the Klipsch speakers sound. I am talking about the RP-160, RB-75 and even the P17b are so awesome, I can not bear to tear myself away from them.

I will promise to come back to the LS50 once and for all and make some mental notes on performance. Right now, dollar for dollar, Klipsch KILLS !!!!!

    Hi there!

I´m having a really hard time finding reviews of these Klipsch RP-150/160M and I had to create an account here to ask for some input. I´m looking around for a new pair of bookshelf speakers, and here in Portugal it´s nearly impossible to listen to anything from Klipsch, but I´m fairly interested in these models from the Reference lineup. I´m really glad I stumbled this post as the RP-160 are compared with the LS-50! Are the Klipschs too far away from the Kefs regarding soundstage width, depth, image specificity, coherence?

The RP-150M seem like a tremendous value at 370€ a pair in a spanish webstore, and I´m willing to try something different from the norm, such as Monitor Audio, Wharfedale, Tannoy...

    Lookwise, they look stunning! :D

p.s.: I hope I´m not thread jacking, and please excuse my poor english writing skills!

I would also like to know how the RP-160 compares to the KEF LS50. I'm considering grabbing a pair this summer.

  7. Hi Chris,

    Yes. My name is Joe.

I think 30" will be perfect. My floor is carpeted but the speaker/stand feels very stable to me.

I know you will love the speakers. And, the Yamaha seems like a great integrated.

    Enjoy my friend!

    It's all about the music.

    Hi,

    What's your first name?

I am using old 36" tall mdf stands that are filled with sand in the center column. I probably ordered them from Audio Advisor back in the day. I've never seen them again. They are probably a few inches too tall, but I feel it's not a problem. I am researching new stands now but it's not a priority.

Whatever you do, get something solid so they will not fall over or off the stands. Mine seem very stable so I feel good about it.

Without you guys, I may not have taken the plunge. Thank you all for advice, help and recommendations.

Wishing you a very Happy and Safe New Year.

I just received my Klipsch RP-160M and with only a few songs on these babies, I am very happy. More to come.

Yesterday I also got the KEF LS50. I have to say both are great. The little "bigger actually" RP-160M's are pretty awesome.

There's a ton of fun in small packages.

What stands are you using and what height are they?

My name is Chris and yours is Joe?, I'm building some stand for them. They will have a top and base that will be a little wider than the speakers base and close to 3 inches deeper than the base. I guess the stand height is around 30" tall to get the tweeter to ear level. I have some measuring to do.

  8. Thank you for the response.

Right now I am using just a little toe in and it seems fine with me. I will be experimenting more with toe in, but I love what I am hearing.

What's the general consensus on toe in?

Not sure a consensus actually exists.

I get the best results with heavy toe in, such that the axis cross in front of the main listening position.  This approach helps avoid spraying side walls with treble, and takes advantage of time/intensity trading to laterally expand the sweet spot.  Less toe in, on the other hand, usually improves the sweet spot, but shrinks it a bit too, to only those prime midline/equidistant listening positions.

Try it every which way and go with what works best for your particular application.

  10. Welcome to the forum and congratulations SoundMind66!

You are going to LOVE them. Mine are wonderful. Best $400 I ever spent, literally. I am astonished at how awesome they sound. The better the amp the better they sound.

    Enjoy them in great health!

    Joe

  11. Yes, totally agree.

Probably a little cool and neutral in character.

Everybody I've heard using them say that there is zero coloration from the amp, that it doesn't have its own sonic signature like lots of audiophile amps, it just amplifies what its fed.

  12. Been on my list of things I need to acquire for a while.  Great score.

Thank you, they sorta came out of the blue. I am very happy I was able to seal the deal.

Congrats...that'll be a great time testing them all out.

I am having a blast and you guys are so welcoming and giving with the advice. I would not have even given any of these a thought.

to avoid being scooped, avoid risk by posting about a purchase only AFTER it has been secured. It has happened.

Very True, I made this mistake in one of my very first post on this forum.

I am so sorry this has happened to you. Sometimes we let the excitement get the better of us. I was lucky.
