  1. I need help please as to how to send audio signal from typical basic 3 year old desktop computer wirelessly 20' to a 30 yr old basic Yamaha receiver.

Please understand, I do not know, NOR care to learn anything about any of this new fangled Bluetooth, DAC'S, Spotify, Shiitts, whatever stuff,

I dont text, and I survive w/o My Space. Or is it Facebook nowadays?

Just figure I live in Mayberry.

I just want it to work as simply and cheaply as possible.

I have been asked "does the computer have Bluetooth"?

My Mrs. says no. It has "Radio" ? she sez.

I want, her when at her computer, to very easily, at a whim "cast" youtube, or her "playlist" ( whatever that means) to hear the music on my receiver's speakers not far from her.

The most I want her to have to do, is walk to the receiver and change the input selector switch.

Is there like an inexpenxive dongle to put on both ends to make this connection ?

O, we do have Wifi in the house, our computers and printer are "wireless"

I need to do this cheap, and plug and play. not Fine Wine Audiophile.

    Thank you, Lars

Where is her getting her music from? Because I use Google chromecast audio. It' s $35 and it use WiFi, sound quality is great, and it's pretty simple to use and connect. Only problem it that I know it doesn't work with apple iTunes and just a few others. But it does cast from YouTube and of course Google music and many others as well. Tell me what she uses and I can check for you.

Sorry just read that you have chromecast, don't think chromecast audio will be much different but if nothing else works, can't hurt to check out.

  3. I need some help here. I currently have my tv, turntable, and computer plugged into my receiver which play through a pair of rp-150m. I'm getting a static/hum when it's on either of those three inputs. I have tried unplugging all electronics around my system to see if it was an interference. Nothing changed. I also unplugged the three inputs from the receiver and the static goes away except when I unplug the turntable. It actually gets worse when I unplug the turntable. Lastly, I took the input that normally goes into my computer and plugged it into my iPad and iPhone, no hum/static now even though it's the same cord. Anyone have some advice how to fix it. Thanks

Do you mean it gets worse when you plug the turntable back in?

  4. I also have my first pair of Klipsch, RP 160M.

Paired with a Hegel H80 and a XTZ 10.17 subwoofer they deliver surprisingly good sound, both with music and movies.

Tomorrow I will pick up a dspeaker 8033 cinema for better subwoofer integration.

I am pretty sure the system is going to "rock my house"

Wow, I'm sure it will! Sounds like it already does! Welcome to the forum!

  5. Thanks willland! Your info guided me back to the Yamaha website, long story short, I use Foobar2000 and I needed to go into it control panel and select Yamaha's DAC. I'm in Flac heaven! Thanks so much for your help.

You are very welcome, even though I did not do much.

Glad you are liking your Yamaha A-S801. Yamaha is doing some great things with stereo audio these days.

Thank will land, AS 1000, what a beast of an amp! That's the only thing I miss, those wood panels, old school. Love it!

It is a beast. When it first arrived, I had a heck of a time getting it out of the box due to it's heft.

I agree I use to sell Yamaha for more than a decade and I always thought I was a great gear but this is next level for Yamaha, I mean cost no object, you expect a certain level performance, but this is an affordable gear that can deliver, in my opinion, 70 to 80% of esoteric gear performance. That's phenomenal!

  6. I am not sure if this review will help but it does indicate higher than 44.1 through USB.

    http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews2/yamaha/1.html

You may consider one of these to accompany(and match) your A-S801.

    http://www.musicdirect.com/p-161290-yamaha-cd-n500-network-enabled-cd-player.aspx

It may not be available in silver at that price.

I have been eyeballing this player for quite some time to "match" my A-S1000.

Thank will land, AS 1000, what a beast of an amp! That's the only thing I miss, those wood panels, old school. Love it! The onboard DAC in the AS 801 is capable of decoding up to 32/382khz but for some reason (or some step that I missed) it only playing CD quality.

  8. Friday I received my new integrated amp the Yamaha AS801 in silver ( I love the silver it reminds me more of the old school Yamaha) and the sound is fantastic paired up with my also new Klipsch RP160M bookshelf speakers. The only thing I haven't figured out is how to get higher than 44.1khz from my amp when using USB. I have many 96khz and some 192khz but when I play them they will only playback at 44.1khz. I downloaded the drivers for the USB connection for the AS801, I went into the control panel, sound settings on my windows 8 computer, but I couldn't find anyway to select a higher resolution. I'm sure I've missed a step somewhere. If anyone has an idea what I may have missed please help.

Congrats! Very nice looking amp for 2 channel. It should support anything you throw at it.

Are you saying you play a wav or flac files and it samples it to 44.1 khz? If you play a CD it will be 44.1 that is CD quality. Maybe download a file that you know for sure is a higher sample rate.

I have a Denon AVR 1333r for HT and it has HDMI and lan features where I just click on a file on my computer and it starts up the amp and displays the song and bit rate on the TV and on the amps screen. It will show the sample rate for anything I send. For high bit rates it shows PCM with the sample rate.

Your specs are here, it looks like it should play anything. Again congrats on the nice buy!!!

    • 100 W x 2-ch (20 Hz - 20 kHz)
    • USB DAC function supports native DSD resolutions (2.8 MHz / 5.6 MHz) and PCM (384 kHz / 32-bit)
    • Digital signal indicator shows DSD and PCM playback formats and sampling frequencies
    • High efficiency ESS Technology 32-bit DAC (ES9010K2M)
    • Digital audio inputs for TV or Blu-ray Disc™ player
    • CD Direct Amplification and Pure Direct
    • High strength chassis with double-bottom design for excellent dampening of vibrations
    • ToP-ART (Total Purity Audio Reproduction Technology) and high quality parts
    • I/O (input to output) direct symmetrical design
    • ART (Anti-Resonance and Tough) Base
    • Custom made power transformer / 12,000 µF block capacitors / extruded aluminum heat sinks
    • Gold plated speaker terminals and RCA terminals
    • Continuously Variable Loudness Control
Yes thanks BobK, I forgot to mention they are mostly flac files that I have, I may have a few wav as well. I love the amp! Fantastic sound even a CD quality. Thanks again.

Try control panel>hardware and sound>manage audio devices>whatever your device is>properties>advanced. Should be able to select the sample rate and bit depth output.
Thank you robbiey60, I will give it a try.

  11. I'm just finishing by basement and decided it needs a dedicated 2 channel system so I can listen to tunes while shooting some pool and throwing back a couple lagers. The room is roughly 15X32.

Ever since I heard a pair of LaScalas in my fraternity in college back around 1990, I was hooked on the Klipsch sound. So, I found an absolutely mint pair of oiled walnut Forte IIs on CL and snagged them, along with their original boxes. I've decided I want my source to be completely digital and user friendly, so I'll be using a MacBook Pro as a dedicated input....now you see where my login comes from.

Anyway, a friend of a friend owns an audio shop and I couldn't pass up a deal on a new Cambridge CX A80 integrated amp, in silver of course, to match the Mac. I decided against their (Cambridge) network player because I already have the Mac laying around and it seemed like more of a waste to not use the DAC already in the A80, even though the DAC in the streamer is supposed to be better.

So, what should I expect from high density music files with this setup...Mac into CX A80 out to Fort IIs?

What could make it better for not a lot more invested?

Welcome to the forum, yeah I agree, I don't think you can go wrong with that setup. Enjoy!

  12. Hi Chris,

    Yes. My name is Joe.

I think 30" will be perfect. My floor is carpeted but the speaker/stand feels very stable to me.

I know you will love the speakers. And, the Yamaha seems like a great integrated.

    Enjoy my friend!

    It's all about the music.

    Hi,

    What's your first name?

I am using old 36" tall mdf stands that are filled with sand in the center column. I probably ordered them from Audio Advisor back in the day. I've never seen them again. They are probably a few inches too tall, but I feel it's not a problem. I am researching new stands now but it's not a priority.

Whatever you do, get something solid so they will not fall over or off the stands. Mine seem very stable so I feel good about it.

Without you guys, I may not have taken the plunge. Thank you all for advice, help and recommendations.

Wishing you a very Happy and Safe New Year.

I just received my Klipsch RP-160M and with only a few songs on these babies, I am very happy. More to come.

Yesterday I also got the KEF LS50. I have to say both are great. The little "bigger actually" RP-160M's are pretty awesome.

There's a ton of fun in small packages.

What stands are you using and what height are they?

Sent from my LG-D950 using Tapatalk

My name is Chris and yours is Joe?, I'm building some stand for them. They will have a top and base that will be a little wider than the speakers base and close to 3 inches deeper than the base. I guess the stand height is around 30" tall to get the tweeter to ear level. I have some measuring to do.

  13. Congrats and welcome.

If you are planning a 2 ch system and plan on keeping it that way (ie.., not transitioning to a HT rig), I'd suggest considering a separate pre- and power amp or a nice integrated amp as opposed to an AVR or other receiver. You will get a variety of opinions on this subject from many knowledgeable folks, but taking this approach has certainly enhanced the sound quality of our 2 ch system. The brands I've used in recent years are Parasound (separates) and Marantz (integrated). These have all been SS but the tube guys will have recommendations as well.

    Best of luck.

Thanks ChuckAb3, yes 2 channel only. I looked at both Parasound and Marantz. Both excellent performers. I want the simplicity of one box and the Parasound integrated amp was waaaaay out of price range and Marantz has many great integrated amps but I read a review about Yamaha's A-S 801 amp and the highly rated ESS Sabre DAC. It seems like a perfect fit for me. It's at the very top of my budget but I'm sure it will be worth it.

  14. Welcome Soundmind,,,,Your from the home of Jessie James Dupree.....You can run those with about any boom box or receiver. I have ran Heresys with a boom box during ice storm. Everyone in the area could hear them,,lol.

Just save up and get the best one you can get you will be much happier I think.I like the old HK430 but those are getting old and the one I got probably needs work. If you were closer I have a few receivers here not great ones but could get you by for a while.

Make sure you check out crutchfield and http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/category/avreceiver/home-audio/receivers-amps/home-theater-receivers/4.html they have refurbished ones.

Hey thanks ricktate, I agree with you. I've made up my mind, I'm going with the Yamaha A-S 801. My budget was about half of that before but I decided to wait on a turntable for now and that opened me up to getting a much better amp.

    Congrats.....

Soooooo what amp are ya thinking about???

    MKP :-)

I think I've decided to go with the Yamaha A-S 801. Thanks to willand suggestion to look at a couple of Yamaha models. It has everything I wanted, highly rated DAC, decodes every hi rez format, and I love retro like style. I think I'll even get it in silver for more of that 70's flavor.

Thank you wvu80 for that great info! I do like deep bass and maybe later my budget and space will allow, i will have one. I think what i love more about subs is how they anchor all music deep or not, if that makes any sense.

I will listen to just about anything once but my favs are vocal jazz and most Jazz in general but love blues,

OK then, Mr. Sound Mind, in your honor: :)

  17. Mine are way smooth, listen all day great and surprisingly bassy for a small speaker. Listening right now with a smile on my face. So happy for you.

Sounds like just what I'm looking for. And since I'm not adding a sub anytime soon, a nice full bottom end will be welcome. Thanks so much.

Sent from my LG-D950 using Tapatalk

I've noticed that the 160s seem to respond more than usual to wall placement. Pull them away from the back wall and they sound light and lean. Push them back and bass can easily become overpowering.

I've never had another model that responds so much to wall placement. Maybe it has something to do with the tractrix port, but I feel like I have complete control over the tonal balance.

Interesting, I'm building some stands for them and I estimate they will be about a foot from the back wall for starters. I'm sure I will be playing with them a bit to get the best balance of bass. Thanks for the info.

  20. Welcome to the forum and congratulations SoundMind66!

You are going to LOVE them. Mine are wonderful. Best $400 I ever spent, literally. I am astonished at how awesome they sound. The better the amp the better they sound.

    Enjoy them in great health!

    Joe

Thanks joeinid! Yeah I think that they were a great deal at $600 but a fantastic deal at $440! Although I haven't heard these, that big, bold, dynamic sound, that signature Klipsch live experience will always be there! I will be interesting hear what the tweaks to the horn, like the rubber material used, shape of the throat, cabinet design, baffle and the new tractrix port add to the already impressive sound. Can't wait!
