If I want to connect my promedia computer speakers to an amp and not the sub would I need an amp with the round connector for the cable with the round tip or do I just need an amp with the connector for the speaker wire

I have some promedia computer speakers with out sub woofer. Is there any way to use these with out the sub woofer? Is it maybe possible to connect it to something else that would be smaller and less bulky than the sub woofer?
