  1. whell do you have any photos to post? do all the lights work? I may be able to swing it...tony

Yes, everything (lights, switches, etc.) works fine. No static on volume pot, tone, balance or function controls.

I'll try to post some photos later today.

Side shot, shot of the top, and one showing the imperfections on the face plate.

  3. You spend a fortune on equipment, swapping components and speakers in and out until you think you've got the sound just the way you like it. Then, you do something mundane, like move furniture or move your equipment to another room, and it sounds like cr@p. Maybe the answer isn't turning over the equipment and speakers again, and spending another fortune. Maybe its doing something simple, like turning the bass knob a couple of clicks.

  4. I'm parting with my 730, and wanted to offer it here first. I've sold off some other gear, and this piece was going to eventually be the center of a music system in my den that is no longer going to be a priority to put together.

A couple of minor cosmetic issues:

some very small indentations in the aluminum along the bottom edge of the face plate, just below the volume knob, and minor scuffing of the plastic face that covers the tuning dial in one small spot. Other than that, the unit is in great shape.

Just after I got it, I sent it to Mike Williams of "Radio X" fame on Audiokarma, and he realigned and tweaked the tuner. The 930 has the best tuner in the x30 series, but after a trip across Mike's bench, the tuner in this closely rivals the performance of the 930.

All the controls have been cleaned and lubed, and all the internal fuses have been replaced with new as suggested in previous posts. So, and the buyer should be able to enjoy the performance of this 730 for many years to come.

Do to the work that's been done, I'm asking $140 or best offer, plus shipping. I'm in the 48152 zip.

  5. I'll start this off by stating that I haven't a bloody clue about the market price of Klipsch Belles. However, I do know a drop dead gorgeous speaker when I see one, and these are all that and more.

These are currently owned by one of the sales team, and he's selling them because of space considerations. The are immaculate, from 1991 or 92, and have a near perfect honey oak finish. He's got a price of $2400 on them, but I'm confident that there's padding there, given my previous experience prchasnig at Almas.

Hell, even if you've got no interest in purchasing, go check them out . They are beautiful!

  6. I just got off the phone with Craig and found out his father passed away yesterday, and he will be busy dealing with this heartfelt loss over the next couple of weeks. As most of you know, Craig's dad has been in and out of the hospital for awhile now, and it has been very difficult for him. For those of you who have equipment with him, please understand the delay and he will get to it when he can.

Let's all offer him our deepest condolences, and help him get back on his feet again.

    Mike

So very sorry to hear this. I just lost my mom about a month ago, so I can certainly understand a bit of what Craig is going through at this time. God bless you and your family during this very tough time!

  7. Both actually. You really need the right amp to drive them with music. Lots of good reccommendations here on the forum in previous posts for amplifiers that get the most out of RF-7's.

  8. Last night, I was listening to some vinyl and noticed that on some deep bass notes, I was getting a buzzing sound from one of my RF-3's. After first thinking I had a damaged voice coil (though I really don't drive these speakers that hard at all), I did some invetigating and found out that the dust cap was starting to come loose. It looks like it was simply glued on with a very thin bead of adhesive, and wa starting to work itself loose. I gentrly pulled the dust cap away from the cone, and it came off quite easily.

Question - what do you reccommend using to put it back on? What kind of adhesive would be best? I'm thinking I shouldn't leave it off, just to protect the inside of the speaker from dirt and dust.

    Thanks for any thoughts!

  9. Whell, I'll go in Monday and run as many tests as I can. I'll hook up speakers in both A&B, cycle all the controls, run a CD through all the line inputs, etc. I think I should be able to bargain them down to $150-175 within the week.

It looks pretty unscathed, although there is a fair amount of dirty dust on the knobs. The glass is good. I always thought this was the more handsome of the two units.

I'll get back to you after the visit.

Dave: Just checking to see if you might have had a chance to check in on the G9000DB?

  10. I was surprised that the 30 year old TT belt was still fine, everything worked!

Me too. I owned that exact TT, and bought it used. Sounded OK, but I decided to be proactive and replace the belt. It sounded pretty good before, but swapping out the belt made a noticable difference. Possibly the speed was slightly off with the old belt.

  11. I had a G8000 that I bought new in 1978, and I loved that thing! Outstanding build quality, and great fit and finish! Also had a very good phono stage in it.

    Mike

I'm not dissatisfied with my G6700, but the G9000 would really take my system to another level. I also know someone close by who specializes in diagnosis and repair of vintage gear. If there's something wrong with it, and if it requires parts that aren't "unobtainium", then I'm fairly confident he's be able to fix it.

Got my fingers crossed that we can corral this beast so I can give it a good home!!

  12. Not a horrible table, but not one of Kenwood's best efforts. And it sure as shyte ain't worth $100!

I'm not a big Thorens advocate for folks just getting into vinyl. My TD 145 was one of the best sounding, but most frustrating TT's I've ever owned. No end to how you can tinker with it, but you can tinker it right into sounding like crap if you don't know what you're doing.

  13. Yup, truly a first rate experience and a first class job of organization. The guys (and their Mrs's) did a great job putting this Fest together.

Flynn: I still have an outside shot at getting into tubes. In a fit of delerium, I bought a bunch of raffle tickets and dropped them in the bin to see if I could win that little H/K tube integrated. If that happens, I may call you to figure out how to use the @$%#* thing! [:D]

Great to finally meet Parrot. Seems like a decent chap, so I guess I'll never learn what all the negative press is about! [;)]

Briefly met Dean while lunching with Flynn. I swear one day when I have two nickels to rub together, I want to give my RF-7's the Westcott treatment. Unfortunately, that may be when the twins get out of college (or drop out of college, and give their dad even more gray hair!). So, Dean, if you're still able to see what's at the other end of your soldering iron in 21 years, let's chat!

As for NosValve's VRD's, still some of the nicest sounding amps I've ever heard, and they look like fine furniture with tubes on top. If you have the scratch, and are thinking about tubes, I have no idea why you're not chatting with Craig.

For those of you Klipsch board members who were there, and I didn't get a chance to meet, well, maybe next year!

  14. I will be attending tomorrow, complete with a "swap meet" table where I'll be selling a few audio odds and ends. With 8 month old twins keeping us hopping, I've had to have some serious negotiations with the wife to carve out some time to attend.

I'm looking forward to meeting Parrot. Maybe that will help me figure out what folks are complaining about! [:)]
