I have two pairs of KG4s and think they are a nice speaker for the price, but I would pass on those unless they were a real bargain. The asking price of the ones you are looking at is more in line with a mint pair with a nice finish like walnut, not a DIY Duratex paint job and sloppily glued drivers.

Good news is the KG line was popular and Klipsch sold a lot of them. They pop up frequently for sale and often a good prices as well.

    Keep looking.

Thanks for the input, just what i needed to know. It seems that heritage speakers don't show up as often as i would like here in BC. Lot's over in Ontario but that's to far away.

I don't mind the cruise into Washington if i have the time.

Agree, the exterior looks like Duratex.  It sounds like you have a good dialog with the Seller, just ask him if he re-painted.

I've glued loose dust caps before due to buzzing, it drives you crazy!  The gluing needs to be done and it's hard to get it just right.

Although I've never heard them those KG4 have a rep for good sound.  I don't know about the price, but if the finish and cosmetic issues trouble you then maybe it's a deal breaker.  There's nothing worse than having something bug you every single day from something you are supposed to like.

From a project perspective, the finish is not overly concerning as i'd like to re-veneer and restore. The part that is some what of a killer for me is the missing papers on the back and one emblem on the grill is missing. (I've seen these on ebay though)

How hard is it to strip the duratex off without ruining the MDF?

I guess the alternative is build new cabinets out of birch and swap over the drivers, since the papers are missing anyway. $300 for drivers and throw away cabinets starts to add up the project total.

  3. I was able to obtain a few additional photo's from the seller. Looks as the exterior is painted finish instead of veneer, was that an option with this series? Unfortunately it sounds like the paper identification tags are missing on both.

Crossover's are original as well as drivers. Looks like someone was a little glue happy with the dust caps.

    Thoughts?

Sounds averaged price than with the difference between CAN + US funds.

I've never had the chance to listen to the KG series.. are they worth the $300 to restore x-overs etc..?

Is Kirsch Audio in Germany the same company?  Website is in German.   I find nothing about a dealer network in the US for Kirsch speakers. I did find Kirsch curtain rods though.

Possible the name is being used to confuse folks.

There is a button on the bottom left of the website to change to the English site.  The company logo doesn't even match the above add.

Try playing the Dyslexic sympathy card and those may be yours for only $598 US.

But coming from the Land of the Mounties, you're looking at $1200 CAN at current list.

A sympathy wild card brings it down to $800 CAN.

Ponder, ponder. pounce sniper - pounce.

Without dyslexia, the bill starts to add up on 18 hour round trip. The impulse buy hasn't fully sank in but if the were splits I'd be getting antsy.

  7. I have found a set of the la Scala industrials with the separated horns cabinets not to far from home. Might be worth the 14 hour round trip.. I've been looking for awhile now. Sounds like they have been used for DJing most their life. The father purchased them 30 years ago and had been handed down to his son, who also did mobile DJ.

Seller says when played louder, one horn crackles and one 15" doesn't put out as hard as the other. Could this be a diaphragm on the horn and capacitor on the crossover circuitry causing the LF to be quieter?

Anyone able to give some input on the going rate of value for this type of la Scala is? Obvious signs of packing it around to events and tired drivers needing some TLC. All boxes seem to be well protected from having the rigid metal trim so I am assuming condition at this point is just visual scuffs. The asking price is $500CAD

I priced out manufacturing my own Baltic birch boxes but it was well into the $600CAD price tag just for wood.

  8. Working or Not... Except the pair left out in the rain I've seen circling... I am looking for a project!

Preferably looking for boxes with bad drivers or repairs needing to be made.

Located in the Okanagan BC but will travel in BC/Alberta or Washington/Idaho/Oregon for pick up.

Will consider shipping to a shipping receiving company in Oroville Washington if boxes have bad drivers removed to save weight.

I have considered fabricating my own boxes but I would like to have the original Klipsch inspection tags present for value reasons.
