The deal was the 7th and 8th, posted in Alerts. However, late on the 7th they were still $199 but no longer showed with shipping as an option (in store only). We've learned that with Fry's you need to get an order in quick because they limit the number for the free shipping

So, I've only been looking at the garage sale forum and never clicked on Alerts until you mentioned it. Oh well.

Yeah, I found that out with the Subwoofer deal that started today. Mad, I missed the RB-61s though. Lesson learned.

Update - I picked up a new pair of RB61 ii with a Fry's promo for $199 shipped that I will try as surround. Figure at that price if I don't like it I can sell them and try something else. I will eventually get RP240S/250S to fill out the home theater.

When was the RB61 deal? I've seen it referenced a couple of times and thought it was old until now.

  4. So I'm still trying to decide what surrounds I want and noticed some KSF-S5s for sale. This brought up a question, how would I determine which are good Synergy series vs the not so great ones that were sold at BestBuy?

Oh I totally get that.  I'm the same way.  I'm patient enough to wait for the ridiculous deals to come around so items priced at fair market value rarely even get my attention.  BTW, that's a sweet price on the RF-7's.  That's exactly what I paid for my son's and his were pretty much mint with none of the grill pegs broken.

I was fortunate to recently pick up a pair of RS-7's for @WakeJunkie for only $50 and they too were near mint.  Older gentleman moved into a house that had a pair of RS-7's mounted on the wall.  He simply had no use for audio.  Even crazier than that, I was 3rd in line.  Have no idea why the first guy didn't do whatever it took to get there to pick them up that day.

Well my RF-7s weren't mint but I was happy to get them for the price. The same could be said about getting the RC-7. It simply had scratches on it and they called it Fair. Right now I have my quintets on the back line but have been looking at the surrounds and possibly some RB-3s for the rears.

I can tell you I used the RS-52 with my RF-83 (which are on the same tier as the RF-7's) and they were fully capable of keeping up with them.  If the RS-7's are out of your budget, if you really want them, offer him less for the RS-7's and see what he says.  If he won't budge or can't get it within your budget, shoot for the RS-52's.

I will certainly think about it. I find it hard to pay that much for the surrounds when I only paid 400 for the pair of RF7s. The fronts were listed as fair condition but didn't have any issues that weren't cosmetic.

RS3 are descent.  If you can find a pair of RS7's, that would be the best option but would likely cost $350 - $400 if you can find a pair.  @WakeJunkie will tell you they are a significant upgrade.

Another good option would be the RS-52's.  They can be found for not too much more than the RS-3's.

So my guy just posted his surrounds. He's selling the RS3s for 150, the RS52s for 300 and the RS7s for 500. He initially reached out to me about the 3s. I guess he realized he had already gotten quite a bit of my money in the last week. So what are your thoughts on these prices? I know the 7s would be the best option but I can't swing that price after buying the other speakers.

Fairly easy to come by are the  RS 35's.  These are incredible surround and will match any Reference setup.  I can't honestly find one negative on this speaker in a surround role.

Thanks, I will keep an eye out for them.

  9. I would like to thank everyone for the advice given on this thread. I am the new owner of RF-7s and a RC-7.

It was a pretty funny story too. Calhockey10 added 2 links for the speakers but I was having trouble getting in touch with the guy that had the mains. Well I finally called him and he mentioned that he had already found a buyer. So I simply moved on, and focused on picking up the center speaker. Well, while I was on my way to pick up the RC-7 the other gentleman called back to see if I still wanted the RF-7s. Well of course I did, so I asked where he was located. Crazy as it seems, it was the location I was already heading to. The seller of the center was the son of the guy selling the mains. I ended up having to come back the next day because I had driven my car over there, but I now have the entire front line.

then pray this guy still has this http://richmond.craigslist.org/ele/5878622310.html  RC7 to match them and you have a pretty stout front line

Thanks again for this link. The guy did still have the RC-7. So, I'm planning on getting it.  The only issue is that I haven't gotten a response from the seller of the RF-7s. I've emailed him twice, but there is also a phone number so I'm going to try to text him. Either way, I should probably get the RC-7 anyway right?
