Now this is pretty rich... I Think I have narowed down the cause of the problem to not be my speakers (thank god for that!) but the electrical wiring in my house! (D'oh!) I don't know why this would have sudenly become a problem within the last two weeks, your guess is about as good as mine. However, in desperation, I tried out my old speakers. While not having any tweaters to cut my brain in half with like these do, they did fall subjuct to an awful lot of white noise, regaurdless of the volume. I took them down stairs into the TV room, which has the newest wring in the house and they had the same problem. I had also tried this funky Monster Power Strip that we got for the new cable modem after the ld one got fubar'd in a lightning storm. It says it's suposed to clean up AC power... but it didn't do anything. I tried it in the TV room as well with no effect. I also tried using the old wire on one of the stalites and it didn't really make a difference to the bad noise, so I know it's nothing I did. Hehe... me, being me, I now find this noise much more talorable, knowing that it is not in fact the speakers, but the shaddy electric wiring in my house. Not to say that is likely any good for my speakers, but I don' think it'll hurt 'em either.
As for using the power grid to turn them on and off.. Well, if that hurts them than that's just pretty damn weak. It's a good grid, so I'm not too scared. Hehe, at least now, the temptation to try to water cool my amp is all but gone!
