  1. I have not actualy removed the lights, but with them all turned off i still get problems. I don't think they are cuasing it. However, it is now just past midnight and the noise is not as loud. It also is more high pitch only though. However, it is easily drowned out by quite music, but it's still there. lurking in the darkness and in the quiet. I talked to one of my knoledgeable friends about it and he wanted to get some of our other knowledgeable friends in on it too. preferably, with an ociloscope. He thinks we will have fun fixing the problem. I hope so. I also wish people would respond to my post now and then, i feel like i'm just talking to my computer here. ------------------ I wish I had a space ship.
  2. Like I just said. I KNOW my outlet isn't grounded, but I used wire to manualy ground them via copper water pipes that go into the ground... now the ground light is on on the power strip, it wasn't before. However, it made no real difference at all. It's not as high pitch oriented, which is good, but it's louder than ever, which is bad. I'm at a loss. I know my speakers are fine at other people's houses.. ------------------ I wish I had a space ship.
  3. If you guys have your computers near the TV, then you should just plug the single RCA to 1/8" cable into your line in on your sound card. The sound card will then mix it into all four channels. at least, it should, my SB Live 4.1 does it. It won't be true surround, but the TV audio out will be stereo anyway, so there is nothing else I know of that you can do. This will make it easy to switch, you can have both going at the same time if you want! I hope this helps.. ------------------ I wish I had a space ship.
  4. My winamp works fine with SB Live and KPM 4.1... have you adjusted the rear volume on the controll pod? I had my rear at full gain before i spaced out my fron speakers better. which brings me to my next point, make sure the speakers are spaced out as evenly as possible. I know this isn't always easy, but be creative. I have a stock of old computer cases and an EQ i don't use for one stand, my dresser for the other, with a "sound tunnel" through the crap for the speaker to progect at me and I moved my computer to the floor so i could use my whole desk. it it really is software, try reinstalling winamp. ------------------ I wish I had a space ship.
  5. Ok, so I grounded the thing manualy, via an acces pannel in my wall next to my desk that is for the bath tub piping. Now the ground light is on, but it didn't really make a difference. At this point, my esttem of human technology is lowered greatly. Later, when my people are all sleeping i'll trade my klunky boots for my head lamp and run around the house removing all these new fangled flourecent lights from their sockets. I'll post back and see how that goes.... man.. what a pain in the ***; there are so many of them now. hmmmm.. oh man... now that they have been on for a long time, I think grounding it may have actualy made it louder! just another antenna I guess... Anyone know how much solar pannels cost? at this rate I will be looking for my own power dource away from the rest of the house! ------------------ I wish I had a space ship.
  6. Well... this thing really didn't make any difference, now that the amp is warmed up. it's as loud as ever but at least it's not as piercing as it was when it started a few weeks back. However, it was getting like that before this thing came in. I KNOW my speakers don't make this much noise at other places though, so I'm sure it's the electrical signal and since this thing has so little effect, I'm sure it probably needs to be grounded. i really can't say for sure though, I'm not an expert. ------------------ I wish I had a space ship.
  7. It's my birthday and one of the things I asked for was the EMI/RFI filter from Radio Shack. my mom was cool and picked one up. It seems to help a little, more than the expensive Monster Cable version did.. but I can still hear the buzzing, though not as high pitch and bad. In terms of noise and noise filtration, is it bad that I'm not grounded? I know it's bad, but will it add to the noise or at least make it harder to filter? one of my somewhat knowledgeable friends was saying that in the context of whiring speakers from amp to satalites you have a positive and a ground and as long as you have the ground than it should cancel all noise not from the sound source. I'm not sure about this, or thati'm explaining it exactly right, but maybe you can clear me up on it. what do you think about the electrical being grounded in this context? ------------------ I wish I had a space ship. 8. Well, if it's only in one channel than it's probably a problem with the amp. I don't know what would cuase it but you may have to send the sub in. I have a problem with a quite high pitch buzzing too, but it's on all the channels. It started a few weeks ago and my old computer speakers were doing it too. It seems to be a problem with the electric current in my house. I had my speakers at two other houses for get togethers and lan parties and they don't do it there. Justin says I should get an EMI/RFI filter at ratshack but I haven't tried it yet. I will soon. However, my problem is on all channels and goes away at other houses. ------------------ I wish I had a space ship.
  9. isn't it even cheaper at newegg? ------------------ I wish I had a space ship.
  10. Justin is right, many poeple have the Klipsch speakers and they are high quality parts. Mine are great! ------------------ I wish I had a space ship.
  11. Well why don't you call them back and see if youn get another tech rep. they may be more help, you never know. aks about sending in the controll pod too. It sure sounds like a lose connection to me. If it is the midi looking jack on the sub than it is most likely a lose connection in the sub and sending it back for repair might be the best option. ------------------ I wish I had a space ship. 12. I have the Klipsch 4.1 and I keep my main and wav volume at half, line in at about 3/4 just becuas the line out on my disc man is a little quiter. I mute what ever I'm not using to reduce noise. I have an older SB Live 4.1, which is pretty quite compair to the new Live 5.1. However, I keep winamp's volume all the way up most of the time becuase the damn icq message noise is so loud. I keep the volume knob between 20 and 30% most of the time. About placement. This really is key. Originaly I had my CPU up on the desk and the speakers were firmly up agains the sides of my 21" CRT just under 19" appart on the insides. Then one day, I kicked my computer's *** off the desk (ok, so I gently lowered it to th floor while it was running...) and spread the speakers out as wide as the desk, 42" edge to edge and pushed them back a bit. Now the stereo is much better and I don't have to push the rear speakers as hard. I had them on full gain from the front, now it's not far past even. I also was able to get my monitor centered on the desk better. I just love these speakers so much! ------------------ I wish I had a space ship.
  13. I have the 4.1's too. I have had them for a whie now, a few months. If you really want to drop extra money on them, I can walk you through adding banna plugs and better cable. I did this to my satalites and it sounds great. more clear and crisp. Closer to what yu ge from headphones; you hear what you are suposed to rather than just what comes through the speakers... well you still do, but if I really listen I can hear much more fine detail. I spent $38 at radio shack, but most of it was on the blugs. If you want, you can solder the cabls driectly to the leads and use some hot glue to plant them in the wholes with some slack so you don't stress the internal parts. There's not much to say about doing it that way, you drill a hole on the back of each stalite big enough for the cable, you run it through, you separate it a little, strip the ends, solder it to the leads. make sure not to mess up + and - and you will be all set. Then put the satalites back together, pull the wire tight (not hard!) and reinsert two or three inches of cable so you can workon the again easily if you need to. then use hot glue to seal the hole so that the cables can't move. I would actualy reccomend doing it this way rather than bothering with banna plugs. I never take the wires off my stalites anyway. I got a 50' real of premium grade 16 guage cable from RadioShack for $16. I got a small roll of thin solder for $4 and barowed a soldering iron from my friend. I thought it was worth $40 for the upgrade when I was done and doing this way would cost $20. The only problem is that if anything goes wrong with a satalite Klipsch may not give me a waranty on it. So wait a while before you do it. ------------------ I wish I had a space ship.
  14. I noticed that you mentioned ground loop this time around, I have the same problem if you remember.. I think I'm not grounded even though I have a three probg outlet. is that really bad? will the EMI filter still work? (keep in mind the expensive monster power stip that said it would clean up AC but said nothing about EMI didn't work for me.) If i get my wiring re done and I get grounded, will that solve my problem? ------------------ I wish I had a space ship.
  15. I'm confused now, you mean the problem quits at higher volume or the speakers quit? That's what I thought, but someone else took it the first way and seemed to be correct. That being the case I can say that I was a little disapointed with the very low volume performance too. It lacked clarity, it wasn't fuzzy or anything... It just didn't come alive like it did a little louder. I upgraded my stsalites with gold plated banna plugs my self and get RadioShack premium grade 16 guage speaker wire and used a litle of it to attatch the plugs to the leads and they sound way better now. However, if they are actualy mallfunctioning at low volume than you may have an actuale problem. How low does this happen? ------------------ I wish I had a space ship.
