PhosphorEater

Hello, I'm very much a novice and recently purchased two R-28Fs and an Onkyo receiver. Out of the box and after using the receiver's accueq system, the sound is about as far from desirable as is possible to get. The sound is very muddy, boomy, and you name it. I'm guilty of attempting to plug and play and now I'm desperate to figure out how to sort my mess out. Are there any EQ settings or something I could try? I've read the speakers need breaking in, and etc. I'm at a loss and would appreciate any advice.
