  1. Hello everyone,

Some further news about the amplifier.

The seller did a last check up on the MX-1000 and it has been found a "issue" on one of the channels of the speakers.

The seller said to me that he will send it to a German Yamaha special technician which is renowned and usually has a waiting list of 6 months minimum.

The selling has been delayed for some months until the issue is fixed.

  2. Hello everyone,

I'm have some good news for someones (not as good for the others :D )

I just confirmed the purchase of the combo Yamaha MX-1000 and CX-1000.

    Price 1800eur (shipping costs included)!

The bad news are that, to avoid some 300eur (swiss customs), I sent it to a friend's address in Portugal (EU country). Unfortunately I will only put my hands on it in the end of July.

As soon as I get my hands on it, I will come back here to post some photos of it, I give a complete feedback!

Thanks to all of you for your several suggestions / opinions!

I hope I have made a good deal and I will be pleased with his sound!

I'm not sure if anyone answered your question but if you buy a power amplifier, you will also need to get a pre-amplifier.  An integrated amplifier contains both a power amp and a pre-amp in one chasis, so you get that if you prefer to have just one box.  As for amplifier recommendations, I would suggest you also look at Classé Audio (on the used market).  They are one of my favorite solid state amps.  Used can be a great value when you are buying the higher end stuff (such as Classé, among others) as they are built better than the mass-market gear so they are more likely to last and because they were fairly expensive when new, they tend to be better taken care of by their original owners.  Buying used means you want to buy from reputable sellers.  Places like Audiogon and US Audio Mart / Canuck Audio Mart / Europe Audio Mart (?), can be good places to shop for used gear as you get come confidence with seller's feedback.

Web site: WWW.EMOTIVA.COM They are setup for transactions in over 100 countries and they accept credit cards, handle conversion, and shipping.

Hi David, I see you are in Switzerland so that may be tough to see a lot of suppliers local to you. To me I think the Yamaha amp/preamp combo linked to you is fairly decent. I am not sure as far as the repairs but since the seller is willing to offer a warranty that sounds okay to me. I am not a big Yamaha fan although at one time I was. I find the treble a bit too bright and almost tinny for my taste.

I don't know if you can find older Technics Solid State integrated amps or power amp/preamp combos around you (Technics was big in Europe) but if you can find anything from their SU- or SE- series amps, they sound fantastic with Klipsch and they are built like tanks. Personally I am a big fan of Emotiva but the costs associated with international shipping may not be a good deal. If you see anything on your local market I would advise you to check it out.

    Hello Teaman,

Yes, you are correct. This is a "stereo amplifier" (aka 2-channel) as referenced in your original question.  You must have a pre-amp, also know as a control amplifier to run a stereo amplifier (separates).

You are going to find this type of review and comments about most all generic type amplifiers.  This is not your typical, generic amplifier.  Example, I have had several Rotel amps that sound fantastic with my Klipsch.  At the same time, I had one power house Rotel that lasted mere days in my system, it sounded horrible.  Also, and I don't know why, there are Yamaha haters out there.

The quality and design of the Yammy M-series is top notch (IMO).  This beast weighs over 50 pounds, that is not 50# of plastic...

I am not trying to convince you that this is the amplifier for you.  I like vintage Yamaha gear and just noticed this one is across the pond, perhaps a reasonable shipping distance to your door.  There are MANY fine amplifiers out there.  I think you may be looking for an integrated amplifier or a receiver rather than a stereo power amplifier.

Hello David and welcome to the forum.  I think it's quite likely that many folks here on the forum don't really know what is available to you in Switzerland or close by to you.  Shipping anything from the US is going to be prohibitively expensive given your budget, so obviously it would benefit you to find a dealer or other source as local as possible to you.  If you could find and then present some options, then I think it would be better for people here to give you a recommendation.  Would it be ok for you to tell us what city or town you live in?

    Hello Jimjimbo,

    Yes, sure.

    I live at Geneva.

99% of my purchases are made over internet resellers, mainly from UE countries (France, UK and principally Germany).
The NAD amp suggested by Bill is available on internet european resellers for about 1600dollars. It's expensive, in fact, if any of you can point me to an amp under 1000dollars it would be great!

But i also know that quality has its price, and I accept it.

For info, my Klipsch speakers have been bought 2 years ago on a french internet reseller for 3000 dollars, around. I know that in US they are normally cheaper, it's the "price" from living outside US (customs taxes), I'm ok with that!

    Thank you for your reply.
