  1. Marvel - Thanks for the input. Here doing 'other' as a DoD civilian. Current living room setup will totally block one speaker if I place them on the floor right now. First order of business will be explaining to the wife about the TV and speakers when she get here! LOL Currently bartering with a local Navy SeaBee who can supposedly get his hands on some Russian Birch to re-skin them for some fishing gear I have. Will also research and propose a deal for some stands as well. I've seen the stands you're talking about I think, with the Heresy II's mostly though. We'll see. Otherwise that'll have to wait until I return to the US. WVU80 - Thanks. Seems to be a bevy of Sansui, Marantz, and Luxman over here, so I'm gonna try to get a little smarter on the subject and then go hunting in the thrift stores and local audio shops and see what jewels I can hopefully flush out! billybob - Thanks! Home is Japan right now. Coming from Hawaii before that. Germany before that. Oklahoma before that. South Carolina before that. You get the idea. Always moving! LOL
  2. So, I came to Misawa, Japan with a pair of sealed AR-2ax's that both need pot replacements, and a Yamaha RX-V3800 driving them, with a sole goal for my three years here to find, and own a set of Yamaha NS-1000M's! I found a set after only a week in country for $380, only to discover after a little Google translate of the sales tag, that they were non-functioning for that price! No sale! Fast forward 3 months and someone posted a pair of early '84 Klipsch Heresy HBR's on FB here, and after a week of bidding back and forth, I secured them for $273, knowing full well that the guy had told me there was some external damage on one speaker, and the fact that he said he hadn't powered them up in 10+ years. Got them home and inspected them inside and out, and was pleasantly surprised, since everything appeared new and original on the inside with all Klipsch guts, and the external damage was not too extreme (The one will definitely need three corners of one side repaired though!). I had read everything I could about them prior to going after them, so I was prepared for no bottom end, and was just hoping they worked period! Disconnected the AR's (Which have no bottom, mid, or top ends!), hooked up the Heresy and gently eased them into some Sly and the Family Stone, and couldn't be happier! Sure, they could probably use that crossover recap, and the cosmetics taken care of, but for now, going from AR's to these Klipsch is like night and day, and I don't find myself missing that 30Hz at the bottom end at all. I'm more of a mid and high fan anyway! My question to the community is this; I've read that Klipsch in general pair nicely to tube amps, and Sansui seems to come up quite often as a particular favorite. So, being here in Japan for the next few years, might allow me better access to some amp stock that might not be as easily obtainable in the US, so what brands/models should I look for in the local shops and stores here in the country, that might pair well with these Heresy? Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated, as it would help to hear from someone who owns Heresy I's, and what they've done to get the most out of them. Did I get a good deal even with the external damage, and what should I do, and not do, to repair them? Like I said, I'm pleased with how they are now, I can't imagine what they will sound like after a crossover upgrade! I do intend to use them as two-channel for tunes, but I have an older Bose Acoustimass coming next month or so (However long it takes to get my household goods here! LOL), that might, or might not get hooked-up. I know their current placement is not even close to optimal, but I just set them on top of the AR's to test them, and I've just left them there, as I don't have a better place for them right now. LOL Thanks in advance! Always loved Klipsch, never thought I'd own a pair, just never crossed my mind. Now I have to honor them! .
