  1. Hey guys, so I'm getting some awesome advice from Westcoastdrums, but instead of bothering him alone with all of my questions I thought I'd see if anyone has any opinions on these 3 units if I go with just 2 channel. I may also go with the Parasound A23 brand new since I can get a good deal on it. Thanks again for any advice you guys have. I'm going to go ahead and make a decision in the next few days. https://www.usaudiomart.com/details/649485150-nuprime-ida-8-integrated-amplifier/images/2094215/ https://www.audiogon.com/listings/lis99719-peachtree-audio-220-stereo-power-amplifier-peachtree220-cherry-15856-solid-state https://www.audiogon.com/listings/lis99821-rogue-audio-sphinx-2-tube-hybrid-integrated-power-amp-silver-tube
  2. Haha yea I definitely tend to do that. This whole amp this is just new to me, so I don't want to buy something expensive and regret it. I've had probably 5 receivers over the years, but never a separate amp.
  3. Also for a stereo amp what would you recommend the minimum wattage be per channel? I see a lot of highly reviewed amps that are only 40 or 50. I know that I don't need 200, but at the same time is 50 enough to push a large tower speaker?
  4. Yea I was worried that the center not matching the fronts for the same type of sound might be a problem for movies. Do you think I would even notice? Any opinions on the best 2 channel under $1000? Thanks!
  5. Gotcha, so power is good, but maybe not the best sound quality? Would that B&K sound better? Or what about this Parasound? I've heard good things about them. https://www.usaudiomart.com/details/649434711-parasound-hca-2003a-3-channel-power-amp/
  6. Here's a pic to show you guys what I'm working with.
  7. Also I didn't get any response to my idea of 3 monoblock amps from outlaw. I can get 3 of them for about $900 and they're 200w RMS 8ohms each. Is there any downside to this? I could just line them up side by side under my tv stand. Thanks guys!
  8. So I'm leaning towards the 5 channel Emotiva A-500 mainly due to the size. I was thinking about the B&K and others that size but the only room I would have would be on top of the Marantz Receiver, which I assume isn't a good idea. I have maybe 8 inches of height left above the receiver and in the other shelf only 5 inches. Does anyone have any opinions on bi-wiring the 5 channel amp to 3 channels or should I not bother? Would I be missing out on some power by just using 3 of the 5 channels or would the amplifier use all of the power either way? Thanks again for the help guys!
  9. Should I have any concerns with the fact that the B&K is probably almost 20 years old? Also, just curious on your thoughts if I were to buy a 5 channel amp should I bother Bi-Wiring 4 channels to the Towers and use the last one for the center?
  10. Haha thanks for the link! I'll look into it. Any thoughts on the ones I listed above?
  11. So I'm looking at used amps on a few different sites and I was hoping you could give me some opinions on a few of these. They're all a bit more than I want to spend, but I can do it if it's really worth it. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Marantz-MM7055-5-Channel-Power-Amplifier/273612242391?hash=item3fb48f7dd7:g:KEMAAOSwu4dcFTn8:rk:3:pf:0 Figured this would have a similar sound to my receiver powering the rest of the speakers. https://www.audiogon.com/listings/lis994a7-anthem-mca-50-5-channel-power-amplifier-mca50-15812-multi-channel-amps https://www.audiogon.com/listings/lis99a03-rotel-rmb-1075-multi-channel-amps https://www.audiogon.com/listings/lis98j9h-naim-audio-napv-175-3-channel-amplifier-rare-and-made-in-the-uk-multi-channel-amps This one seems kind of weak, but this company is apparently amazing quality wise from what I've read. Do you think that would be enough power? https://www.audiogon.com/listings/lis999b0-emotiva-xpa-3-3-channel-multi-channel-amps?creative=305983658573&gclid=Cj0KCQiAr93gBRDSARIsADvHiOrpzjayuCkrWLqC10EFeaXDQFb9sPvFOpExxNd4oa5arqDjxJrg39oaAp_ZEALw_wcB&keyword= This one seems like the obvious choice, but also do I really need the extra power compared to a new version of their cheaper one? Would the quality be better on this one vs their cheaper one here: https://www.amazon.com/Emotiva-Audio-5-Channel-Power-Amplifier/dp/B01IQWAXDC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1545108033&sr=8-2&keywords=emotiva+3+channel Thanks so much for the advice.
  12. Also, what do you think about going with maybe 3 of these guys instead of the 3 and 5 channel amps? https://www.outlawaudio.com/products/2200.html
  13. Yea I've seen the Monoprice ones and they look great. They're about $1100. For that price how do you think it compares to a Marantz like this one? https://www.us.marantz.com/us/products/pages/ProductDetails.aspx?CatId=avseparates&ProductId=MM7055 I just figured it might give the same type of sound, but if the other one is way better then nevermind. Also, the main reason I like the Emotiva one here is because I only have about 5 inches of height available on my shelf and this seems to be one of the only ones that fits. https://www.amazon.com/Emotiva-Audio-5-Channel-Power-Amplifier/dp/B01IQWAXDC/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_23_t_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=1DWH3W53THSK2NDQSJG6 But now I'm worried since you said the quality may be lacking with the newer units. Any help or advice would be great! Thanks
  14. Any that you would recommend? I was thinking of the Emotiva 5 Channel, since they don't seem to make a 3 channel under $1000. Any advice would be great. Thanks
  15. Thanks for the advice. Any ideas of a good place to get one? I was thinking of just getting a new Emotiva 5 channel for about $500 or so, because I didn't see any good ones on Craigslist. Any other places I should look?
  16. Ok yea I'll see if I can find someone. Thanks!
  17. Do you think I would notice a difference in sound quality?
  18. So I've recently put together a new system that I'm really happy with, but I'm just wondering if it would be beneficial to get an External Amp. Here's my setup: Marantz SR6012 2 Klipsch RP280FA 1 Klipsch RP450C 2 Klipsch RP500SA 2 Monoprice Alpha Carbon 8" Ceiling Speakers for Rear Heights Revel B12 Subwoofer 1000w RMS I sit about 8 feet from the speakers and play a lot of music in Pure Direct 2 Channel, but of course I also watch a lot of movies/tv. I typically listen at around -11db and I don't really need it any louder. But I'm just wondering if I'm losing any audio quality by not using an External Amp even though my speakers are very efficient. Everything runs from my PC via HDMI. If you do think I should get an amp it seems like I need to get at least a 3 channel so that the Fronts and Center can run on that one. Is that correct? It would be a lot cheaper to go for a 2 channel, but I was worried about the center not matching in movies. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  19. If anyone has any advice I would really appreciate it. I'd like to make a final decision and order the speakers today. Thanks everyone!
  20. So I've got everything figured out now except I'm having second thoughts about the side surrounds. Basically I'm worried that in order to get them at the correct height/angle they're going to be too low and in the way of our walking path next to the couch. If they were high up like they are now this wouldn't be a problem, but since they're 13 inches deep and sticking out from the wall 5 inches that means they'll stick out 18 inches and at basically head height or 6 feet off the ground angled down they're simply going to be in the way. So I've come up with 3 options. 1. Just wall mount the Klipsch RP-250s about 2 feet above ear height and they shouldn't get in the way. 2. I can just speaker stands above 1 foot above ear height, but they would have to be slightly in front of me, not directly to the side. From what I've read this is not ideal and doesn't make much sense. 3. Of course the last option would be to install In-Wall speakers, which wouldn't be fun, but it is possible. The RP-250s option seems to be the easiest, but I'm wondering if this is a bad idea with an Atmos setup. I would really appreciate some help! Thanks
  21. Oh really? I looked at a few sets like these that were recommended to me by someone on AVS Forum and they seemed to be pretty good. What should I look for exactly in a ceiling speaker? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002YPS6T6?tag=vs-avsforum-convert-20
  22. So I've decided to go ahead and put in ceiling speakers right above the couch instead of mounting some to the beam/ceiling. It seems like it's a MUCH cheaper option. From what I've read I can buy a $150/Pair and get great sound out of them. Any recommendations to match the rest of the Klipsch set? Also, I'm rethinking possibly the RP-500SA speakers for a pair of Klipsch RP-150M speakers since they're cheaper and might sound even better. The only thing I'm worried about is since they're rear firing will it be ok on a wall mount since most of them only push the speaker out about 4" from the wall? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
  23. Does anyone know a good way to ceiling mount the 500SA speakers? I'm almost leaning towards getting the SVS Prime Elevation speakers, simply for the fact that they come with a ceiling mount. I'm worried I'll get the 500SA speakers and have a hard time mounting them properly.
  24. Yea I think you're right. I'll keep the 450C. Thanks
