My CWIVs continue to impress after about 4 months of ownership. I'm still looking for the perfect integrated or separates combo to power them. But to be honest, they sound fantastic out of my Onkyo TXNR757 A/V receiver. Even with this Onkyo, they responded well to being bi-amped and I also noticed a difference when I upgraded to higher quality 12 gauge speaker cable. Nothing too crazy, but better cabling than what I had.

I'm gonna be really pissed if I spend 5 grand on new amp/dac/pre and it sounds the same as this $800 A/V receiver....Really pissed...

Were I you I would have to seriously consider the McIntosh MA252 tube hybrid integrated.  It's quite affordable and would give you a taste of that sweetness that tubes bring to the party.  In my completely biased opinion Klipsch Heritage + tubes is an absolute must.  Once you try them you'll never go back to pure SS.

When I first got my Klipschorns many years ago I was in the same boat as you.  Powering them with a TOTL SS Yamaha receiver.  Had never tried tube amplification before.  Ignorance was truly bliss.  I finally bit the bullet and bought a vintage MC240.  Quickly realized that tubes were a complete revelation.  Loved what I heard and thought surely more power would be better.  Bought an MC275.  Immediately preferred the MC240 so I quickly parted ways with the MC275.  At that time a lot of the guys here in the 2-channel arena were running their Heritage with super low powered SET amps like the old 2A3 Moondogs so I thought let's go the opposite direction.  Bought a pair of MC30 monoblocks and the rest is history.  Sold the MC240 and I'm still running the MC30s to this day.

Believe me.  If you're willing to invest up to $5k on some new gear, and give tube amplification a shot, you'll sit back and laugh as soon as the first track plays realizing just how much you were missing.  That Onkyo will never be able to show you what your CWIVs are truly capable of.

  2. Lesson learned.

The lesson is...... There's still a Crown out there with your name ALL over it - and for WAY less $$$. [:D]

...that won't have the magic that tube rectified MC-30's have. So....keep looking for those 30's meagain.

I'll never sell my pair and was actually hoping to add these to my collection as well but my attempt to contact Kevin was late.

  3. Personally I think everyone should give tubes a try at least

once. I was convinced after the first ten seconds that I wouldn't

be going back to SS but this is just my ears.

What is your ideal budget to spend on everything? This would be helpful knowledge for recommendations.

One thing I can say for sure is that tube rectification is where it's at.
