  1. If you are talking about the legs for a subwoofer then they are not available for the promedia systems. However, they can be made at home by hammering four nails with a broad base into four corks and then placing them properly under the subwoofer. For further details, justin is the right person to talk to.
  2. Ok, so i understand that the subwoofer ought not to have low THD ratings. Is the THD rating related to the quality of the amp?, or can the ratings be re-listed with a higher THD rating like the PM 5.1 or the PM 2.1 sub. Does the tested frequency range in any way affect the calculated wattage?.
  3. I just checked the specs for Klipsch Promedia 4.1s and 5.1s on this website. They were as follows: PM4.1: FTC Rated Subwoofer: 70 watts @ ¡Ü 1% THD, 25 - 50Hz PM5.1: FTC Rated Subwoofer: 170 watts @ ¡Ü 3% THD, 40 - 100Hz Now these ratings have been given without testing them on the same frequency ranges. I am not sure what THD precisely means but i think the readings would be different if the 5.1s sub is tested at 1% THD. I also think that the subwoofers tend to fart out more on low frequencies ( 25 - 50 ) as compared to the higher ( 40 - 100 ) frequencies. I am confused about the exact ratings of the subwoofers so i was thinking if anyone can help me out here.
  4. I was shocked to read an apologetic reply by drew, i was expecting something very abusive. Anyway i'm glad to know that u didn't mean what i thought u meant.
  5. " hi, the leader of MY country just put a big whole in YOUR country. now i goto anger-management college. can we be freinds? " by drew well, thats very disappointing indeed. I just came here to discuss problems regarding my PC speakers. Mr drew, English is not my native language, but i do understand that there is no such thing as a "big whole", i presume u were trying to say something else. 7. Hello, I also can't understand why the PM 4.1s sub is performing that bad. Firstly, all the rooms are identical, so room acoustics are not the reason unless a couple of milimetres in the room's dimensions make a very big difference. The French and Pakistani versions run on 230 Volts, however the US version works on 110 Volts and my friend uses a step down stabillizer for his PMs. The guy with the US version of speakers doesn't even have a decent sound card, some built-in one, i think Vibra 128 and yet it performs exceedingly well. I use the SB Live! 5.1 Player, and the guy with the 4.1s also uses the same sound card. I have checked for the equalizer and presets but they are not the problem. All the rooms have the same dimension and all the three systems are placed identically in their rooms. Less bass is not the only problem with the 4.1 sub, it starts farting away at a reasonably low volume as compared to my PM 2.1 sub. I'll tell my friend to talk to the dealer ASAP. Mr Big Sheesh u r right, it IS a very nice place. The studies here are amazing, or atleast the best in Pakistan. Many of it's graduates are studying in universities like Cornell, Standford, Georgia Tech, Perdue etc etc ( for Masters or PhD. ). The hostel life is even more amazing ( with no typical restrictions at all ), u can imagine how much fun v have.
  8. What i meant was that i am currently living in a hostel. The hostel has independent rooms with attached baths and the atmosphere is by NO means strict ( else i won't have owned the promedias ). The other guys that i talked about also live in the same hostel ( with the same room dimensions ). But the three systems perform differently. Each of them was bought from a different country namely US, France and Pakistan. Incase you are wondering about the university in a country like Pakistan, visit www.giki.edu.pk By the way i haven't got any appropriate replies yet...
  9. Change the placement of the woofer, don't place it in a corner with no ventilation. It should have atleast 6 inches of space on either side, specially the back. I faced a similar problem, sometime ago ( i couldn't touch the back of the woofer for more then 3 seconds ). But changing the placement really helped. Now the woofer stays slightly warm to the touch. If nothing helps then you can place a small fan behind the woofer....... but i think changing the placement would do the job.
  10. Hello everyone, i just wanted to know if there is a significant difference in quality of the PM 4.1s if i use the Monster Cables with it. I am not interested in making the cables for myself, but i would go for the monster cables if they really do boost the quality of the system.
  11. oops, i guess next time i'll try to be more technical .
  12. Thank you KiLLeR for your reply. I have asked my cousin to perform a few tests on the system just to make sure, i hope to hear good things from him. Hey, i am sure you must have listened to Creed's "With Arms Wide Open", does the beginning of this song have the type of sound that distorts the speakers. And also the beginning of "Butterfly" by Crazytown. Please let me know. mililaniguy i have auditioned the Z-560 system for myself and found it to be disappointing in terms of quality. People do find it good though. Plus one thing, the Z-560s are not trouble free, they are well known for blown amps, i have heard of people on their third sets etc. You have had a really bad experience with Klipsch and nothing is going to change your mind now. But my case is opposite, i have had good experiences. All my friends are enjoying their Promedias thoroughly for the past 1 year now. I haven't found any multimedia system that matches or surpasses the quality of the promedias ( with the exception of PM 5.1 $399, 510D $349 and ofcourse the crossfires $450), but they cost you more as well. The Z-560s are not quality speakers in terms of my experience and opinion, I would rather buy the PM 2.1s.
  13. Well, this shouldn't be a big problem. The disbalance should at most be slight. Or maybe since you have just bought the system, u might get it replaced with one that is balanced.
  14. Congrats! It's good to know that you finally got the right system. Please tell me about your experience with first two systems, were the problems obvious or you found those problems after some listening. I need to know this as my cousin has bought this system for me in the US but hasn't heard it extensively. Just hooked them up, listened to them for a few minutes and then packed them up again. According to him they are AOK. But please let me know of your experience so that i might advise him accordingly.
  15. You are right in saying that a PC sound system doesn't sound good in the open. I have tested my PM 2.1s in the auditorium ( no walls within 50 feet around the system )and they sounded pretty good, ofcourse i didn't hear the loudest voice but they surely sounded crisp and clear ( and not hollow ) even in the open ( as compared to what i heard on Z-560s ). I am planning to do exactly what glennbarn is doing, i'll buy a small fan to ventilate the back of the woofer and unplug them every night before sleeping. As far as running into problems is concerned, i am taking a chance here and i hope i have the same experience with my 4.1s as i had with my 2.1s.
  16. This is a known problem with PM 4.1, but it is easily fixed. Just turn up the volume on your Promedias uptil lets say 9 or 10'o clock and use the software volume control. It should sound perfect even at low volumes after this adjustment.
  17. hmm, problems with 3 sets. I also bought the PM 4.1s from Bestbuy but i'll be using them in Pakistan. They're working great for now, i just hope i don't run into any problems at home. My previous set only had a scratchy volume control but thats all. Can anyone tell me what is the approximate probability that i'll run into problems with my set in future, provided it is working perfectly right now.
  18. hello everyone, recently i was planning to upgrade my PC speakers, i had a choice between Klipsch Promedia 4.1 or Logitech Z-560 system. I had previously listened to the PM2.1s only. Luckily i got a chance to listen to the Z-560s in a store nearby, i was not impressed at all. The sound was very hollow and it lacked the clarity that i heard even on my PM 2.1s. I was shocked when i heard the system, i turned all the equalizers off ( media player 8.0, not winamp ) and adjusted the knobs on the control pod but nothing helped. I also noted that the mid-range was significantly recessed. I do admit that the Z-560s are a bit louder and have more bass ( than PM4.1s ), but i would never ever exchange them for even my Promedia 2.1s. They simply don't sound good enough. So i made my choice, PM 4.1s. I just wanted to know if anybody else also felt the same ?.
  19. If you are using Windows XP and have Microsoft Windows XP Plus, then you should use the Media player 8.0 with all the equalizers turned off and also load the drivers for your speaker system ( from within the media player ). The sound will be as realistic as any other Hi-Fi source.
  20. Is there anyone who can tell me where the fuse for the 4.1 system is located, if any?. And how can i reach it?
  21. Well it's good to know that the Promedia 4.1s are not discontinued, actually i was told by a person on klipsch's help line that: "Last but not least Pro Media 4.1 is discontinued and we are sold out for the 230 V versions. Your are lucky if you get one at Surcouf. In the States they have a lot of 110 V versions in stock. Therefore they have to offer a special deal". I have decided to buy the speakers from Bestbuy anyway and i will check the extended warranty thing as well. Thank you very much for your reply.
  22. I was an owner of PM2.1s, they worked perfectly for the first couple of months but then a strange buzzy sound started to come from the right satellite ( the one without the control pod ) even though i never cranked it up. I tried everything, exchanging the speaker connections, hooking it up with other devices, cleaning the knobs, using other sound cards but the problem prevailed. Thankfully i was able to sell it. Now i was thinking of buying the 4.1 system from US ( i'll be using them in Pakistan ). I need to know if it is very common for the promedia 4.1s to start giving problems within a few months of purchase. Why has klipsch stopped manufacturing the 4.1s, is it due to the overheating problem that most of the buyers face?. Plus one more thing, is bestbuy supposed to be a poor store? ( i am not fimiliar with the retail stores here ). This message has been edited by Bohemian_Rhapsody on 07-04-2002 at 09:10 AM
