  1. i understand that you may assume the problem to be outside of the receiver, but if i test the identical units side by side on the same electrical socket with every condition for both recievers being identical and only one of them sounds broken, how could the problem possibly be outside the receiver?
  2. I tested the two side by side before I broke the second one and thats when I noticed the dramatic differences. I used the 2nd one for a few months before it broke. I need to know how to handle this. Do I call HK? do I call onecall? What should I do?
  3. Back in december I bought an Harman Kardon AVR 520 from onecall.com . I used it for about 2 months, but then somehow the reviever suddenly sounded much quieter and sounded muddled with very little bass. The sound simply got much worse all of a sudden. To test whether or not I was imagining it, I put it up side by side with my friends AVR 520, and the difference was obvious. Far less imaging quality, and about 3/4's the volume and 1/2 the bass with an overall tinny sound. I took the reciever to the HK authorixed repair shop and they said that nothing was wrong, that they tested everything and it all came back normal. So I took it to another repair shop, same story. I still do not know what to do about it now. But, to make things worse, THE SAME THING happened to my friends 520 about a week ago while I was borrowing it. What is the problem? Is the amp just blown or what? What can I do if there is an obvious problem but the tests dont show it? HELP! Thanks.
  4. Yea well i guess i just thought the svs could handle it. maybe i was getting too cocky.
  5. So it's not "bottoming out" but rather "making port noise"? That's fine but the noise is still there at certain times. I have a big room and the subs are placed pretty close to the wall. I still do not see how moving them away would help port noise at all.
  6. I have two 25-31cs powered by the original fidek amp from svs. When I play bass pretty loud one of them makes a pop noise every once and a while. I look at how hard its working and i could possibly understand that maybe it just cant handle that much bass, but the other one never pops, ever. What could the problem be? Keep in mind this popping occurs at fairly high bass levels with pretty low bass. Twice ive noticed it. a few times when playing lord of the rings loudly and a few times when playing missy elliot- work it which has bass so low i cant even hear it. The sub looks like its moving pretty hard, perhaps its just the characteristics of the material and not the sub, dunno. - Jason
  7. I dont understand why the xover frequency in stereo mode is limited to 60 or 40hz rather than 80 or 100. is this becuase the front speakers must be set to large in stereo mode? ANy help would be great.
  8. Ok i changed the picture to add measurments. refresh the page to see them. the long west side is 31ft, the north side is 11ft, the east side is 27ft and the south side is 14ft.
  9. Here is a map of my new room. Please help me in deciding where the best place would be to put my theater in detail. ANy help is great.
  10. That is an excellent set. If I could have gotten a flat 32", It would have been that or the same toshiba I already have only flat. ------------------ MY SYSTEM Mains: Klipsch RF-3II Center: Klipsch RF-3II Rear L/R: Polk R40 bookshelves(suck)...soon to be Klipsch RS-3II Subwoofers: Dual SVS 25-31CS Subwoofer Amp: Fidek 3002 600w Receiver: Harmon Kardon AVR520 CD Player: Cambridge D500SE DVD Player: JVC XV-D723 Progressive Scan TV: Toshiba 32A42 32"
  11. Very funny guys.... I forgot to put the couch in which will go in between the surrounds. We have the room. The mattress is only like 1' thick and wont be anywhere new the drivers on the rf-3's*(it wont even get close, they are on stands) ------------------ MY SYSTEM Mains: Klipsch RF-3II Center: Klipsch RF-3II Rear L/R: Polk R40 bookshelves(suck)...soon to be Klipsch RS-3II Subwoofers: Dual SVS 25-31CS Subwoofer Amp: Fidek 3002 600w Receiver: Harmon Kardon AVR520 CD Player: Cambridge D500SE DVD Player: JVC XV-D723 Progressive Scan TV: Toshiba 32A42 32"
  12. Well, my new roomate brought turntables that only fit where my theater system is now. I came up with this new layout. What do you think? the bed is a mattress on the floor. the grey boxes are mostly dressers. ------------------ MY SYSTEM Mains: Klipsch RF-3II Center: Klipsch RF-3II Rear L/R: Polk R40 bookshelves(suck)...soon to be Klipsch RS-3II Subwoofers: Dual SVS 25-31CS Subwoofer Amp: Fidek 3002 600w Receiver: Harmon Kardon AVR520 CD Player: Cambridge D500SE DVD Player: JVC XV-D723 Progressive Scan TV: Toshiba 32A42 32" This message has been edited by jwadd21 on 09-23-2002 at 04:10 AM
  13. yes, my rf-3s do go town to 40 hzs, but i want the SVS's to do the work as high as they can because they would be wasted otherwise, and not worked to their full potential. the strength of the svs's at even 100hz is far more than the rf-3's, so i will probably keep the xover at about 80hz, perhaps even 100, who knows, whatever sounds best. I have them on stands so the would be closer to the same level of the center. ------------------ MY SYSTEM Mains: Klipsch RF-3II Center: Klipsch RF-3II Rear L/R: Polk R40 bookshelves(suck)...soon to be Klipsch RS-3II Subwoofers: Dual SVS 25-31CS Subwoofer Amp: Fidek 3002 600w Receiver: Harmon Kardon AVR520 CD Player: Cambridge D500SE DVD Player: JVC XV-D723 Progressive Scan TV: Toshiba 32A42 32"
  14. Well I have a roomate, so the bed is kind of a must. The closet corner for SVS? that would take all the bass into the closet instead of the room! baaaad idea there. The corner ther are in is the best possible, trust me. ------------------ MY SYSTEM Mains: Klipsch RF-3II Center: Klipsch RF-3II Rear L/R: Polk R40 bookshelves(suck)...soon to be Klipsch RS-3II Subwoofers: Dual SVS 25-31CS Subwoofer Amp: Fidek 3002 600w Receiver: Harmon Kardon AVR520 CD Player: Cambridge D500SE DVD Player: JVC XV-D723 Progressive Scan TV: Toshiba 32A42 32"
  15. I got bored and decided to create a diagram of my HT.
