You're not going to make me feel sorry for you. I had to drive five hours expecting to audition some Heresy's (only one Heritage dealer in our state). When I got there, he didn't have any Heresy's and I ended up with my Fortes for $3,000. I know these are Forte 1s, but I doubt mine are five times as good. Think of your extra two hours as being worth $1,000 an hour. 😄

Looking forward to hearing the results of the trip.

Wow. That’s a long trip only to find out they didn’t have what you wanted. I certainly feel your pain. Anyway here’s the report. I made the trip and it was very long and I got back late but I bought the speakers. They were not without issue though mostly minor. The screens were a bit worn and one of the badges Was missing. Minor scrapes on the wood and in need of a major cleaning. The biggest problem was that the subwoofer dust cover cone smashed in. Both of them in the same condition. We tried to pull them out with double-sided tape but that was not strong enough. I tried a Dustbuster but that also was not strong enough. Will do some research and try to figure out how to get them back out. They did come with the original boxes and manuals although one manual was eating up pretty badly by worms. These were stored in the garage which is not ideal but I did not see any signs of corrosion and we removed one of the subwoofers and looked inside. I plugged them in after cleaning them and waxing them and they sound great. The best news is that I bought them for $500. It was certainly worth the trip and the money. Thank you all for your help and suggestions it means a lot. This forum is really helpful. I hope to be a contributing member in the future to help others

oops. I was trying to post pictures but no photos are over 2mb And will not upload. When I figure out later today how to reduce the size of the pictures I will post.

  2. Okay guys they are Forte 1s.  It is a three and a half hour drive over there so it is an all day deal with 7 hours in the car. The owner gave me an even better price so I'm tempted to drive over there and grab them but again I don't want to be disappointed and I have to change out for chorus later. Still have to punt my KG4s. I paid $400. They are flawless and in the original box but the sound is not there.  If I end up dreaming about the chorus speakers then I will have to sell  the fortes too.  And then there is the extra stereo equipment still hanging around my house that I don't use. McIntosh xr16 speakers, Jolida tube amp with issues, Yamaha integrated amp that needs to be redone. I'm pretty good at buying but not so good at selling :)

It is true the original woofers are not available anymore but Klipsch does have a newer version the k-48-st-- which means if buying new you'd need to order two so the set matches. Used woofers do show up often here on the forum and eBay though so I wouldn't be too deterred by this. The stock k-48 is very rugged "Pro grade" driver and has an extremely low failure rate from what I've seen.

I wanted to provide you with my two cents on something to be aware of/be on the lookout for.

The original woofers were, I believe, K48k/e if I remember correctly. If you are looking at the speaker, make sure that you are checking the woofers to insure that they are the originals—they cannot be rebuilt and are not made any more. Per my knowledge there is not a “true” replacement drivers available. You'd need to look for some taken off another set of Chorus' if needed.

Don't want to scare you away, but thought you should be aware of this because I'd hate for you to invest the money in a set of Chorus and it not be as expected.

    Oh wow.....very good advice thanks.........

"All replies come in"?  There's thousands of members here.

You were asked to clarify a word you used.  Answering it could have helped give you better advice.  Back and forth banter is always encouraged.

Fair enough. I was trying to express the lack of dynamic range.

Nickyboy and BillyBob and others thanks. I've had a local guy here who sold me those speakers say the chorus would be huge step up but more money which is fine if I could get a set for about $1,000. Thanks everyone for your input it helps

What do you mean by "depth"?

I always love it when people ask questions like this, only to be never heard from again.  🙄

I've always felt that it was customary to wait until all replies come in  in order to thank those who have offered their help so to these people thank you very much .

I Always love joining a forum and find welcoming people who make you want to be part of the group especially comments like this.  They typically like their little group and do not want any Outsiders joining.

  8. I was looking for some speakers for a secondary system in my home. I have a small Marantz 1060 which is a 35 watt solid state receiver and a dual 1219 turntable. I picked up a pair of really nice kg4 speakers but I am not thrilled with them. They seem to be a little dull and I would like something a little better depth. Since it is a secondary system I don't want to spend a lot of money but maybe $1,000. I'm not sure what that will get me but recommendations are welcome. I did hear a vintage pair of Thiel speakers and I really liked them but they are gone. I don't remember the model but they were rated for about 40-60 watts per Channel.

  9. I want to set up this tube amp in a small living room area. I will only run a turntable as single component. I have everything except speakers.  I read several reviews on the Klipsch kg4 speakers and that's looks like it could be a match. Unfortunately there are none for sale close to me and I cannot listen to them but several for sale at distances. What would be your opinion of a good speaker system for this tube amp? Thanks very much I'm glad to be on board with you
