  1. Thanks for all the advice, guys. I think what I'm going to do in the near future is move the AVR-5803 to the separate A/V stand, trade up to the RC-7, and angle it up a bit in the bottom cabinet shelf. I like that idea more for another reason. Tweeter delivered the 5803 yesterday, and there's only about 3" of clearance between the top of the Denon receiver and the shelf above it. Although there's open space behind the receiver and about an inch around the sides, I feel better with more clearance. I know I could buy a Whisper Fan to put above the Denon, but any noise issues aside, I don't like the idea of blowing hot air behind a cabinet with lots of electronics around it. Not to be paranoid, but since our Sony 43" set is on the shelf above the receiver, I'd rather not take any chances with wood warping or bowing due to the receiver's heat. Besides, the Denon is such a behemoth that we've already scraped up the shelf moving it (not too visible, though). I guess this is proof that a) if you're an audiophile (or a wanna-be), upgrading is _never_ finished and you seriously think about things like redesignng a 12K entertainment center to fit your sound system! Time to buy an SPL meter over the weekend.....

There's about 14" of room (height) where we could fit the speaker, so I could buy another inch or so if I put it on a block of wood or something. We'd be sitting about 21-22 feet away in the listening position, a sofa near the other end of our living room. I suppose it depends on what a working definition of "too low" is.
  3. Hi again, I recently bought a Klipsch Reference Series package from Tweeter: RF-7 fronts RC3-II center RB-3 as surrounds with 24-inch stands I have the RC3 on top of our 43" Sony, and bought it because we didn't have the height space for the RC-7. However, my business did well enough in August that I'm springing for a new receiver. Yup, the Denon 5803. To house it, I'm planning on doing the next best thing to rebuilding our cabinet and buying an audio rack that will fit the Denon (probably on the side of our listening area, maybe 12 ft. from the front speakers. As a result, we now have a nice space underneath our set (bottom shelf of our cabinet) that would fit an RC-7. The RC-3 is OK on Pro Logic music, but I finding I'm always having to adjust up the sound on movie dialog with our current Sony STR DE-1075 receiver. Am I better off trying things out with the Denon, or would it make any logical sense to trade up to the bigger RC-7 with a bottom shelf placement? I've always read that center speakers work best on top of a TV, or on a stand below the TV, but not inside a cabinet. With luck, I should have maybe 3" on either side of the speaker, and at least 2" between it and the bottom of the set. Does anyone have any positive experience with center speakers in a placement like that? It seems counter-intuitive, but would the better timbre-matching of an RC-7 compensate for the placement?

Doug We're using the RC-3 for a very practical reason: the RC-7 doesn't fit into our entertainment cabinet. Unless we mount the center speaker on the ceiling, we don't have enough room over the projection set (A 43" Sony) for it. We miss by about 2/3 of an inch. It's cheaper to go with the RC-3 than to rebuild our custom-made cabinet.
  5. Hi there, I'm upgrading our old Klipsch KG setup to a Klipsch Reference home theater system: RF-7 fronts RC3-II center RB-3 as surrounds with 24-inch stands The level of detail on several test CDs and DVDs is what sold us, plus I wanted to keep things consistent with my KSW-10 subwoofer. I know a more powerful subwoofer might be more appropriate, but we live in a high-rise. I'm wondering whether I can get by with my Sony STR-DE1075 receiver (100 X 6 at 8 ohms) until either a) I found out whether the new DA4ES can handle 192 khz sampling on the six channels, Denon comes up with a version of the 4803 that can do the same thing, or c) we move into a mansion and I can afford the 5803. Actually, I'd love to buy the 5803 if it dropped about $2000, but would be too much power for our listening room anyway, 24 X 17 in a hi-rise condo. Am I clinically insane to try these awesome speakers with a non-Sony ES (as in a high probability of clipping without having neighbors come after us with automatic weapons)? We can live w/o concert-level volume in the short term. Any advice would be welcome. Thanks, Stuart Drucker
