  1. I currently have the 4.1's am happy with the sound except for the bass. It's just too weak for my tastes. Sub bottoms out way too easy even at moderate volumes. I don't think it's blown cause it only does it with certain tracks where the bass is much deeper. My question is there any way I can add another sub to the system without having to replace the entire set? Like upgrade to the 4.2 or something. Wish I just went with the 5.1's to begin with. I am running an Audigy2 Platinum if that makes any difference. thanks.

  2. Ok I finally got around to making new cables and I can honestly there is a pretty big difference. Thanks for the tutorial by the way Justin. It helped quite a bit! cwm12.gif I first tested it by using the new cables on the right side and the old ones on the left side. Then I kept switching the balance back and forth. The side with the new cables sounded quite a bit louder and the vocals and higher frequencies just seemed to attack so much more efficienty. I can listen to the volume at lower levels now and achieve great results. Even my mom asked me if I just got new speakers when she heard it. Also, no more crackling sounds even when I rotate the miniplugs!

However, one problem is that on some songs there seems to be too much treble, alot noticeble then before. Almost too painful at higher volumes. My question is how much does the sound card effect the quality of sound. The reason I'm asking is because I just bought a new computer with a SB Audigy that should be here in a about a week. The card I'm using now is a pretty old Creative AWE64 16 bit audio. Do you think the Audigy would help balance out the frequencies more without having to adjust using an equalizer? Overall though the difference is positive and I would urge everyone to try the wire upgrade. cwm7.gif

  3. yeah your right justin, I was just thinking that alot of higher end car audio wire is silver coloured. I think some of it is actually copper wire tinned silver though...Also, when u say the silver is not as high quality, do u think it has more resistance then the copper? I wonder if you could measure it with a DMM. oh and I doubt it's even silver, probably just aluminum. Real silver would be some pretty expensive wire especially for radio shack. cwm12.gif

One's copper and the other is kinda like aluminum/silver colored right?

yeah they just make it 2 different colours so it will be easier to wire it in proper polarity. Copper is usually positive and silver negative but I don't think it really matters, wire is wire, just as long as u wire in phase.

Which brand of 16AWG speaker wires did you buy?

Yeah, most Radio Shacks in Canada only carry 2 mono plugs per store. I will have to go to 2 today to get all 4. I live in Vancouver, BC btw.

I just picked up 50 feet of Radio Shack Brand 16 awg stranded. It was $11.99 Canadian. Part # 278-1267

Got all the parts today. Had to go to 3 different radio shacks to find 4 of those mono mini plugs. Tommorrow I will attempt this project! I'll pass on the Bose for now.. cwm35.gifcwm13.gif

  7. anyone else find themselves constantly twisting or blowing on the miniplugs? Every couple hours of listening that dreaded static and crackling seems to return. If it doesn't happen on one satellite it goes off in another. It's getting to be a real pain. I plan on making new cables this week. Do you think this will solve the problem?

hey you seem to know what your talking about. What do you (or anyone else) think about the Asus P4-S533 boards matched with 512 MB of PC2700 DDR RAM? What should I expect from this setup good or bad? The P4T + RAMBUS combo is just over my budget.

  10. What size are the speaker wires that come with the set? Are they 18 or 20 awg? Can I use 14 awg when I make my wires or should I just stick with the 16 awg? My longest run is about the same size as one the factory rear wires. But I'm gonna make it about 5-6 feet past that because I plan to move my setup into a bigger room in the months to come. thanks. cwm12.gif

  11. Well I got them to price guarantee my set. Got about $100 back. not too bad. I haven't exhanged it yet. They had a few 4.1's on display and none of them were playing music. All of them were warm as well. One guy there said that this particular set had not even been turned on today (just the preamp was powered up in the morning) and it was warm also so he said mine should be fine. I guess I'll hang on to it for now, still got the warranty if anything happens...

I'm pretty sure they are a dealer cause I found them straight from Klipsch's dealer page. I was surprised myself but the price was $80 cheaper Canadian. $450 at best buy and $370 at this place. I also just found out that Best Buy will beat any authorized price by 10%. sweeet, I'm on my way to Best Buy. Check them out here:

  13. Just picked up a 4.1 yesterday. Do I need to unplug the power chord when not in use? Before I went to bed I hit the preamp button on the satellite so the light turned red. But this morning the sub was still nice and warm like it had been playing music all night. Is this normal? I thought that preamp button turned off the whole unit. Doesnt seem like it. thanks.
