Thanks. Will do - The thing that seems odd is the way the volume ramped up. That doesn't sound like a short to me. It was very low for about 1-2 mins (almost inaudible unless volume turned all the way up), then in 5-6 seconds ramped up to full volume (luckily, I had it turned down at that point).

(I know it is ugly, but it isn't shorting)

CWOReilly - The sleeve is insulated and nothing happens when I move them - I am switching them out though. lugs arrive today
-
will switch to spades and clean up the other connectors and see if that sorts it out. Thanks all.

Spade connectors arrive today. Will do on the loosen/tighten, Thanks. Should I spray a little Deoxit on them too?

hanksjim1 - Thanks, will do, but I can't do it now as it is working fine. I think I will have to turn it off and let it "cool down" for awhile. jcn3 - it is a stock AL crossover, I think. No idea if the caps are original. Soldering is not a thing I do. Electronics/electricity are beyond me. If it can't be plugged in, I need to farm it out.

I doubt it. Almost new McIntosh MA252. Never had an issue with it before. LaScalas are they new item in the mix. Also very simple: DAC->MA252->LaScalas
-
I rechecked them and they are solid. No problem with the Fortes.
-
Also - any potential for damage due to listening after they "warm up"?

Just got these home yesterday and they seemed fine . Listened for several hours. When I woke up this morning I only heard sound from one channel. When I put the balance all the way to the quiet side and turned up the volume, I could hear a very faint signal. While I was inspecting the connections, the sound gently ramped up to what seems to be a full signal. The ramp up too about 5-6 seconds. This occurred about 1-2 minutes after I powered them up. Capacitors?

No conclusions yet as I am awaiting a set of spade lug to banana post adapters so I can switch quickly. Should be here today or tomorrow.

"Just wondering why you’d put a pair of fortes on top of a pair of lascalas?" I put them up there to A/B them with the LaScalas. I know it's not ideal, but there is no room beside them.

I feel like I got a decent deal (is $2k a good deal?). The bass is definitely different than the Fortes. I think since they are sitting flat on the floor, with that big flat bottom, I can feel the bass vibrations in my floor. Probably not the best thing as I live in a townhouse, which is also why I probably won't do a sub.

Picked them up today. In person, they are clearly not walnut, but birch 7-ply with a stain. Cabs in decent shape with minimal chips/scratching. One big water stain, and one big scratch on a side. I am considering veneering them with walnut. I have done a fair bit of woodwork, finishing and veneer work in the past, and I am confident I could significantly improve the aesthetics. I would probably do a linen/lambswool grille too, probably just up top. Similar to what I did with the Forte IIs in the pic (I am not leaving them up there, just wanted to A/B them and didn't have room beside the Lascalas). Just getting them set up and listening for the first time. I know the placement is not ideal, but I really don't have many options in this room. Q: Is it heresy to veneer all original classics like this? I am torn. It would make the wife happy... Am I right in thinking it is more likely to hurt resale value than to help it? Thanks for all the advice thus far. Also, I am considering recapping or Crites/other aftermarket crossovers, etc. I am open to suggestions, but I won't ask, I will search as I am sure it has been discussed thoroughly. I am just going to enjoy them for awhile before I do anything.

What does "LS Walnut" label code denote re: the finish on 1988 Lascalas? I thought "WL" was Walnut Lacquer and "WO" was Walnut Oiled. They look like they have an applied surface coat as opposed to an oil finish.

sorry about the double post

I am a new member, when I try to DM anyone (including admins) I get a message saying I am allowed 0 messages per day.

I can't find any specs on these online. Would they be good paired with a horn? If so, which one?

Tried to DM Travis and got a message that I am only allowed to send 0 messages a day. Probably because I just joined.

RandyH - I did a bit of research and found comps around $1800-$2500 for the Yamaha CR-2020. Those were just listings, did not find any that had sold recently. They were in comparable (fully functioning, unrestored) condition. I was not able to find any comps (1979-ish Cornwell, Raw Birch, unrestored) comps for the Cornwells. That's why I came here. I tend to agree that the price for both is fair, but am looking for an idea about the relative value of the Cornwells as a part of the $3200 whole. Can you give me an idea? Does it matter that they have what appears to be a fairly well done clear coat? It seems to have maybe yellowed a bit, but looks okay in the pics. The labels are shot, but the sequential serial numbers are stamped in the plywood. They have not been used in 10+ years, don't know if that is good or bad. They have been stored in a room in the house, presumably climate controlled. Based on above, I did suggest to the owner that we assume $2150 for the receiver and $1050 for the Cornwells. He was not happy with that suggestion and countered with $700 for the receiver and $2500 for the speakers. I am really only interested in the Cornwells, but am considering buying both and flipping the Yamaha. I have a pair of Crites upgraded Forte IIs, not sure why the Cornwells are calling me like they are, but they are. Will you @ing Travis serve to get him to move this, or do I need to DM him? Thanks for the welcome and the opinion.

https://www.usaudiomart.com/details/649805206-vintage-1-owner-1979-klipsh-cornwalls-and-yamaha-cr-2020-receiver/images/3595500/ If this should be in the general forum or the alerts forum, I apologize, feel free to move it. It doesn't seem like a scam, so "Alerts" didn't seem appropriate. The seller will separate, but I have no idea what portion of the $3200 should be the Yamaha and what should be the Cornwalls. The price seems very fair, so I wouldn't want to haggle. Opinions, please?
