The silver conductor in speaker wire is indeed tinned copper, not aluminum. Also, plenum wire is used in non-conduit applications and offers absolutely no advantage in audio applications soundwise. Where do you come up with this stuff? Another example of good intentions but bad information.
  2. OK kids. I tried a SoundBlaster Live! Value, a SoundBlaster Audigy, a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz and a Mad Dog Predator 5.1. No change. THE PROBLEM IS NOT WITH THE SOUND CARD. Amy, I know you read these posts. This is very frustrating. When I originally contacted you, the speakers were still under warranty. The speakers were a gift, and because I didn't have a receipt, you wouldn't help me. I purchased and replaced the control pod/preamp and the problem persists. Now they're out of warranty and I have to pay to correct a MANUFACTURING DEFECT. Sorry, I won't part with one dime. I have been a Klipsch customer since the '70s (I own Klipschorns and Heresys) but not anymore. These are going in the dumpster and I'll spend my money with a company that actually supports their product. Paul Klipsch (God rest his soul) must be spinning in his grave. Over and out.
  3. Well, I've tried every trick that's been suggested and still no luck. I HAVE tried a different brand of sound card with no change. I changed the slot in which the sound card was installed, still no change. I am more convinced than ever that the problem lies with the speakers. So, as I sit here typing this, I'm listening in 2 channel mode and the other two satellites are serving as nifty paperweights . Sigh. C'mon Klipsch, I know you read these posts. Step up to the plate. Pretty please?
  4. My response to Big Sheesh mirrored the tone of his post. My comment about you, Justin, began with "With all due respect to Justin" because I know that you try very hard to help people, and I truly respect that. I just don't need suggestions which are obviously not related to the problem (which, whether you realize it or not, you sometimes offer). Don't be too thin-skinned. If you want to be a self-appointed moderator for a Klipsch BB, expect a little of the bitterness toward Klipsch to be directed at you. Thank-you for your efforts and please accept my apologies for hurting your feelings.
  5. Forgive me for not clarifying. I ran the speakers for almost a year on a two channel sound card. When I installed a four channel card, the problem showed up. I then tried two other cards but had the same problem. Technically, the speakers were still under warranty at the time but Amy would not allow me to return them for warranty repair because I did not have a bill of sale (they were a gift). I probably should have pursued that more vigorously but by then I was so frustrated with Klipsch that I just gave up. To Amy's credit, she did sell me the control pod at a reduced price but that didn't fix the problem. And no, I'm not saying I owned them for two years. I've owned them for 14 months. Do the math.
  6. I received a set of Klipsch ProMedia 4.1's for my birthday a year ago July and have started to experience a weird problem. When in the 2 channel mode (just the front satellites running), everything sounds great. When I switch to the 4 channel mode, I hear edgy distortion (mostly on peaks in the bass) from all four satellites. I have tried three different sound cards (different brands)and replaced the control pod (Amy's suggestion) but the problem persists. With all due respect to Justin, please don't copy, paste and send the ususal list of things that won't work and have nothing to do with the problem ("clean the mini plugs, buy a Y adapter, install a surge supressor", etc). The problem seems to be in the ProMedia internal switching for 4 channel mode. I have scoured this forum for the problem and have found several similar complaints but no concrete suggestions. Is it possible to get a schematic diagram for the 4.1's? If I can't resolve this issue soon, I'm thinking my boat will have a new anchor . Thanks in advance for any help.
