  1. "The bass will not dominate. In fact, many perceive it as lean at first because you don't have the drivers radiating the bass at your chest. For the lowest bass to have a chance to develop fully, a larger room helps, but I think your size is fine. Mine is 20x20." That's my experience too in a comparable size room ca. 15' x 18' with the Khorns along the short wall (see photo). You won't have too much bass, in fact they may sound rather thin, but pure. That may be to your liking, if not, a good (powered) subwoofer will take care of it. The Khorns are "heritage" speakers in more than just the marketing sense. You will probably wind up keeping them forever and letting your heirs fight over them.
  2. OK everyone, here's the last "Goodie" from the out-if-print Rodrigues "Total Harmonic Distortion" book I described at the beginning of this string. I chose the 'toons that particularly tickled my funnybone. Perhaps more than one of you can relate personally yourselves to one or another of the audio-happenings depicted. In any event I hope you've all enjoyed this stroll down audiophile Memory Lane, as it were. Allbests,Tom in Delmar MD.
  3. Winding down. This is the seocond-to-last of the "goodie" ones IMHO from the Rodrigues book.
  4. In reply to "Wrinkles" question I don't know how many total cartoons Rodrigues published but the "Total Harmonic Distortion" book I mentioned at the beginning of this string has some 120 of them. I know that's not all of them since the "electric chair" cartoon I mentioned at the top of the string isn't among them. The book contains an autobiographical squib by Rodrigues, apparently dating from 1976, that says he drew cartooms for Stereo Review since its first issue in 1958. I'm getting close to the end of the "goodies." Here's another.
  5. Thank you for your encouragements. Starting with the last ten or so "goodies" from the Rodrigues book. Check back every couple of days or so.
  6. OK, I had about eight or so remaining "goodies" from the Rodrigues book to share but given the lack of new views I gather interest in this string has faded to zip. So unless there is some indication of continued interest, below is the last one I plan to post. Hope you've enjoyed them.
  7. How old is it and is it a powered or unpowered sub? If powered, the sub's amplifier may have died. If unpowered and you have continuity across the speaker's voice coil(s), I'm stumped.
  8. Does anyone have experience with ALK Engineering mods to Klipschorns? I understand the company sells replacement crossovers that are said to improve the smoothness of mids and highs and moderate them relative to the woofer so that the Khorns' bass can really shine through. They also sell something called a Trachorn array that replaces the Klipschorn squawker and tweeter and is also supposed to improve the sound. Can anyone comment?
  9. This will be the last one for a while, I'll be out of town to the end of June. There are still about a dozen Rodrigues "goodies" from the book to post that I'll resume doing after I'm back.
