It all depends on what you're after. If you're looking for the best sound, you really want to eliminate as many connections as you can. If that's the case, remove the grills and the 4 Phillips screws that hold the face plate. The speakers will come out with the face plate, revealing the wires inside. You should be able to pull the wire further into the speaker and dislodge the adhesive on the rubber plug at the back to remove it. From there, all you need to do is solder your new wires directly to the speaker, run them out through the rubber plug, seal it up, and make them as long as you want. The rubber plug has some adhesive on it from the factory for which hot glue makes a great substitute. Binding posts will offer a little more convenience by allowing you to remove the wires completely, but they'll also introduce a little more resistance and possibly noise into the system. Realistically, however, they'll likely still perform better than the tiny 20-ga original wires.
